Veteran MJ Smoker - looking to switch...need help/advice/encouragement..

If you've been a smoker for so long maybe the last thing you want hanging around is tubes and electrical wires and glass bowls and temp control gauges etc. Not saying those vapes (ssv, eq, enano etc) ain't great vapes but there's a whole lot of accessories (care + attention + cleaning) that come with them. imho at first, it'll be fun but later all the stuff might feel a bit tedious. The Lotus and the Daisy is about as bare bones as you can get yet they've got the required power to put you down. simple and great old-school butane powered vapes.

Agree for the EQ, and to a lesser extent for the SSV, but care, attention and cleaning with the nano? Not at all. Clean the glass and screen every 20 - 30 sessions or so (drop in ISO for 20 minutes and rinse with hot water). Wipe out the inside once a month or so. Maybe wax the wood every couple months. That's it! From what I've read here the Daisy screen (screens?) seems to require at least as much attention. Gotta figure at least the glass on the mouthpiece would need cleaning. Not even sure how one would go about cleaning the wood channels vapor passes through.

And, wish I could find a good butane jet lighter that required little care and attention! Per hit, think I spend more time and effort bleeding, filling and futzing with them for the little I use my vapman. That's once you find a good brand butane that works well with your lighter(s) and a source for it. A can lasts a long time, but plan on spending $5 - $10 for good stuff.

None of it but the tubing has ever been an issue for me with EQ. And, hard to beat wand hash for a nice, cheap, simple, easy to reclaim buzz. Just scrape it off the glass before cleaning in ISO, or crank up the heat (easy as turning the temp knob) to vape it right off the screen and glass.

I have quite a few friends who are Vietnam veterans that vape. None have a torch vape, most have whip type vapes like the extreme q, the vapor brothers and so on. Some have portables too. I would not want to project my feelings on what they might want or need. They might be old school, but their vapes aren't.

And an enano is simple as can be. It's a stem, and a small piece of wood, with an enclosed heater, with one wire for power. None of my vet friends own an enano, but they have expressed interest in mine.

Flame vapes might be popular in some circles, but not around me. I've never seen one in person or ever used one.

Thanks for all the input on a plug in. I'm still leaning toward the SSV after considering the LSV among others. I really don't want a torch vape as of now. Also don't want/need a bag - I'm the only user in the house. Like that it's made in CO and has a warranty and history of success. Think I found a good price on one I found on eBay as well.

Very cool, I think you will be very happy with a ssv. I picked one up in a rummage sale. It did not have a wand but it was all there and it worked. Since then I bought a wand and a water attachment for it. Ive used it quite a bit, and it's impressive. IMHO. BTW once your comfy with it, take a look on the cheap glass thread or bubbler thread. You can get a nice water pipe that you can use with a ssv (or many other vapes) on the cheap. Best of luck!

And there it is. IME it takes like no time at all for your taste buds to be ruined for smoking. Maybe you could re-acquire that taste, but I've never tried, and why would I want to?

When I first switched from smoking, after 33 years of it, to vaping, in summer 2009 (after months of research, I'm a little slow ) I had only been vaping for about two weeks, with a pretty awful (nameless) first desktop vape, when we went to a concert and I nipped off to the bathroom to get high. Of course portables were few and far between then, and I had none, so I used my pipe and a lighter...and holy crap, I couldn't believe how awful the taste was. Just intolerable. Since then I've avoided combusting completely. I would rather just skip the whole experience than deal with that taste. Yeesh.

In other words, vaping has its hooks in you now, my friend. Good luck disentangling yourself. (And again, why would you want to?)

i get that some don't like butane torch vapes and prefer tubes & wires & gadgets but in all fairness, the daisy is one of the most easiest to clean, even compared to log vapes. daisy's screen, take out , burn with butane torch, rub off particles and put back. The glass pieces of enano drop in ISO for 20 mins? thanks, but the daisy's glass Mp can be cleaned in 20 seconds if you have long fingers. i don't know about the wood channels but i know when i combust, i don't have to wash it with ISO as the smell goes away after a few bowls. that's nice about wood vapes, have to see what happens when i have owned it a long time. if you use the WPA from the lotus, maybe even less to clean lol. If you go to the Lotus thread they talk about good butane jet lighters, shouldn't be too hard to find, maybe you can check it out.

sorry i know of no vietnam vets but i know some combusters friends and they love the daisy. this is just my opinion as the OP said he is a heavy smoker for a long time. this is just my feedback from people around me who have tried the daisy as compared to the other vapes mentioned. vaping is cool and i hope we have helped the OP make a choice.

Another tip is maybe start with higher temps on the vaporizer and then work you're way down, this might smoothen the transition.

I used to purely smoke then I tried vaping a few times, I thought it was awesome and now i'm a dedicated vaper however a couple times i'd try smoking again for nostalgia sake and be like "yuck!" and just couldn't believe i had been doing that for so long and feel like i just wasted weed by smoking it LOL!

I do think the only thing that keeps people smoking is it's a habit and maybe has a bit of nostalgia too it, but legitimately once you find a vaporizer that's right for you I gaurentee you get higher from it, and you're getting legitimately high from the cannabis not from smoke that's asphyxiating you. It's a purer high that takes some getting used to but is completely superior in my opinion. Sorry to rant but I just honestly believe smoking is a completely outdated form of delivery.

Get the LSV and buy an SSV Heater Cover (HC). Build yourself a stand and you have the best of both worlds, a Desktop vape that can be picked up and hand-held if wanted. Can skip the tubing and hold the LSV up to your face with a wand, or lean back with a SSV wand and tubing and hold it up to the LSV + SSV HC on a stand. Or use the LSV like a lighter, hold it up to a Worked SSV GonG, .

Your brain correlates getting medicated (high) with combusting. It will take you a week or two to make the transition. Others have given you wonderful advice. I don't know if I can add anything that's already been said.

After you make the transition, if you smoke a reg pipe it will feel like inhaling smoke from a campfire. Eventually smoking will feel horrible to you. Don't over do and burn your tonsils like a new comer in the Arizer Air thread. He was a little too enthusiastic. It sounded like his temperature was too high. Maybe he was too high and used bad judgement. I had never heard of anybody else doing this.

I too had been a cannabis smoker for 20+ years and made the transition to vaporizing 2 yrs and 4 months ago. My health improved dramatically and I didn't catch every cold virus that floated around. You will have more money to spend on top shelf and vaporizers.

A hard hitting desktop will definitely get you where you want to be. You will tell yourself, what took me so long to discover vaporizing? You will be able to enjoy that wonderful plant without harming your body by combusting. It an investment in your future health.

I just bought a couple of Enanos, I don't know if they are as hard hitting as the other vaporizers that were mentioned but I really love the one I've been using this past week. I liked it so much I wanted another one. It's easy to use and the flavor keeps coming. You can go high heat or enjoy the flavor from the lower heat levels. It's all good with the Nano. Epicvape makes some very beautiful log vapes that will fit anyone's style.

Welcome aboard and hold on tight. It's smart to have more than one vaporizer, you don't want to fall back into old habits.

Due to the smallish exit hole in the heater cover, it's still one of the biggest hitting vapes you'll find, and a bargain if you keep it simple. A for the E-Nano too, since you can go big or small with your hits, and it's easy to handle and disguise as an aromatherapy device. I'd recommend getting both, eventually.

Took the leap and ordered a SSV off eBay late last night - got a decent price from what I could tell from my research. Can't wait for it to arrive. I appreciate everyone's input about their favorites. And as many of you have mentioned - I'll probably end up purchasing different models in the future...

Now to research the other options - smaller wands, water/ice attachments, etc...

I didn't get it thru 7th floor. Got it thru a vaporizer company on eBay. Pretty basic model - silver on a blue base with blue glasses. Got the travel bag and all the other stuff. $200 with free shipping. Same model from 7th floor's site would have cost close to $300...feeling alright about what I paid.

I bet you'll be fine. As I said, the SSV is a friggin' tank. Almost as durable as the Travis Bean guitar Jerry may be playing in your avatar. (Unless he's got the Doug Irwin, but I can't tell for sure what year that is....)

I just unpacked the SSV - all there - except the 'free grinder' from the company I ordered from. But all the SSV gear is included - bag, wand, whip, mouthpiece, extra screens...

Going to do the requisite burn-off and then I'll start experimenting later tonight...

If you are still woried about high tolerance try this trick of sensitivizing your cannbinoid receptors.

1. Make a 36-48 hour break
2. Load your vape with a minimal amount.
3. Take ONE Puff
4. Wait 5 Minutes
5. If you are feeling the slightest effects, the session is over. If not, go back to 3.
6. You can do up to 3 Sessions a day
7. After doing this for 3 days, (so with 2 days abstinence and 3 days one-pffing it's the 6th day) you can start your session with like 3 or 5 puffs, wait 5min and then decide if you really nee more. Usually, you don't.

Covertee to devotee here. I've noticed a lot of posters will mention something like. "If I didn't try" or "buy this particular unit, I would have never got into vaping at all."
So that 1st time purchase really has an impact. Glad to see that enough people helped you make a solid choice and that you are already looking for attachments.
Plan on making all your mistakes/learning curve with one. You will know you've arrived, when you start thinking which portable/desktop out there is more specialized to your needs. (BTW.The SSV with the warranty is a solid buy.)
