Vaporizing with a jet lighter only

I was at a friend's friend's home and all that was available was a old school bong with a screen and a jet lighter. While anyone who has used a jet lighter powered vape realizes how much temperature variation there can be in just a centimeter of flame length, I was still surprised by how effectively I could vaporize a small bit of ground material at a time. A long, precise jet flame seems to work best, and you will need to hold it at a length of say 6 - 12 inches, slowly bringing it closer to the bowl until you see the material begin to just begin vaporizing, then perhaps pull back just a centimeter and hold.

It works surprisingly well if you use a very small portion of material at a time. I found that vaporizing a small load all in one go was the best way. You can end up with nicely, evenly browned ABV and fill a tube with nice vapor.

It's by no means a proper replacement for a real vaporizer, but given that most any smoker probably has access to a jet ligther, it can be a free and effective way to try your first vapor hit.

Good to know Charlie... I've never really been a big fan of flame powered vaporizers, but I feel that has something to do with having access to such a wide variety of vapes. In comparison to a real vaporizer they just cannot perform the way I would like... but I think it might be worth my time to master the flame, that way I could vape virtually whenever and wherever with only a jet lighter on hand, just gotta be patient with finding that sweet spot. I do have a jet lighter just kicking it at home, hmm perhaps an experiment is in order tonight. Cheers!

This is the ONLY way I use my SS Coil VG now.

Initially, I liked the better range of control that I had once I got the curve down (quickly) with the torch vs the lighter. Then I go over to my buddies house who exclusively uses the lighter and his SS VG Coil is blacker than black with soot.

Nasty, and reason enough to not use a dirty yellow flame. :2c:

Doesn't vaporgenie say torches shouldn't be used with any of the metal VG?
If this works fine im trying it out on my friend's coil asap

Where do they say this? I might think they are along the lines of safety (especially for handlebar mustache wearers) but I dont see the harm in using a blue flamed (micro) torch. In order to get the heat needed with a torch you do have to have it back pretty far - this also helps with the depth perception issue that you can get when using a lighter.

The torch cant do a whole lot to the SS except discolor it from the heat a bit, and when mentioning cleaning of the stone they say to use a torch to burn off the soot.

Use a torch to begin with and you will have no soot :D

FWIW - I am using the original torch that used to ship with the OG Supreme. That little micro torch is perfect.

Edit - As per their website

"Torch" lighters have a noisy blue jet flame, and burn butane. We are unsure whether to recommend torch lighters. On one hand, some VaporGenie users like using them and say they work well. Others dont like them at all. We generally dont like using torch lighters. In our experience torch lighters produce too much heat that can make temperature control difficult, and increase the chance of burning. Also, the flame from a torch lighter is nearly invisible, and so is harder to position accurately, thereby increasing the chance of acidentally burning the wood of the VaporGenie. On the other hand, some VaporGenie users much prefer using a torch lighter. Perhaps there are some particular kinds of torch lighters that work well. We dont know. Please provide your feedback on this issue so we can provide better recommendations about torch lighters.

This also appears to be an older posting and relating to the OG VG pipes. The fact that the new pipe is SS and the stone is set further back = mo bettah.

I tried this, but with a twist. I took an old easy vape heater cover (18mm) and stuck one of the eq dome screens in it. I just put the torch on low and angle it into the cover at ~45 degrees. Gives super milky rips.
