Vaporizer Safety

So I'm sittin' here a bit vaped and all of sudden, this question popped into my mind.

We've had various in-depth discussions in different threads about different vapes in regards to their safety, with special emphasis put on the safety of the materials used in their construction. So as a group, we're pretty concerned about stuff like this in regards to possible toxins entering our bodies. But.............when your sharing your vape amongst friends (or strangers), do any of you REALLY think about where their mouths could have been 45 minutes ago?

Or, is this thought just a little too Howie Mandelish......:hmm:

Evert taught me the most simpel way to keep at least your mouth clear of 'foreign' vaporisers is by making a ring or O with your thumb and forefinger.
By then placing that on the mouthpiece and putting your lips on that instead of direct contact you can at least keep your lips free of 'unwanted genetic material' and use them as a 'fingercondom'(his word!:p).

Since my immune system is compromised I do not like sharing and rarely do it. However on the rare occasion I have a guest, a simple wipe with an alcohol prep pad followed by a wipe with a silver impregnated antibacterial microfiber cloth works well. They are used to clean counters in restaurant kitchens and hospitals.

my glass draw tubes are very inexpensive ... each participant has their own to use. Then into the dishwasher for sterilizing (cleaning, really). Or soap and water and paper towel to dry.

i really like having clean glassware and this glassware is absurdly easy to keep clean. minimal condensate to deal with.

I should make it clear that I use a water-pipe, so no lips go over anything, and hopefully no saliva is involved.:o

In retrospect I believe public transport or current work in crowded environment..

I don't share my vape with anyone same because my immune system isn't very good so I get colds all the time due to medical problems so I keep it all to myself:lol:

I just don't share that often anymore . when I used to share my mflb alot everyone else used a glass stem I hit it native , with the IO or WISPR or VG I had my own mouth piece and one for others to use .

Now that I have more Vapes I just don't vape with others for some reason . or just wipe the mouthpiece on my Levis because we all know that sterilizes everything if I do .

If I ever go see a movie or such I take a can of Lysol and soak everything I'll touch .

I go with the George Carlin approach; if there's visible spit I wipe it off, but under the theory that contaminants build up your immune system (within reason), I don't get too fastidious. Also pursed lips are your friend, as are bongs that you can fit those pursed lips inside of. I try to keep my immune system working for me, sometimes this works better than others but I hardly ever get colds anymore. Of course damn near everybody has one strain or another of staph/hpv, but whatareyagonnado.

I always hate that when someone passes a piece and it is obviously covered in spit. Is it that hard to wipe it off at least.

I had one parent who was worried about germs and one parent who takes the George Carlin approach. So I'm somewhere in the middle!
I try to get exposed to as much germs as my immune system can handle. And practice on :spidey:
(For those without a compromised immune system, of course)

I don't mind sharing utensils because I can alway sanitize them when I get home.

Have you ever drooled into your bong? Would you notice if other people drooled into your bong as well? :hmm:
I had a friend do that with a log vape stem of mine during a long draw. Luckily replacement silicone stems are only $2.50 :p

Yes, but not in the last few years. I have one friend who literally does this every hit, now he gets his own, personal, drool friendly piece to use!

I must admit the lack of basic motor control hitting bongs seems to encourage in some people is amazing, lacking the ability or wherewithal to contain one's saliva inside one's own mouth is not exactly a complicated task:shrug:

Yup. If you're immune system isn't compromised, exposure is a good thing in that it strengthens it, especially when you're a kid a growing up. Parents that keep their house super clean with anti-bacterial soaps and stuff are actually doing their kids more harm than good.

It's kinda like working out with weights. You tear down more muscles and they become stronger.

How 'bout the floor test? Do you eat food if you dropped it on the floor? I do, and I've NEVER gotten sick from it. Of course, it has to be hard, dry food like a nut or a raisen. I sure as hell wouldn't scrape up a bowl of spaghetti and eat it.l

Um...........depends how active your saliva glands are. Mine are super active (my dentist tells me that's a good thing). When you got your mouth open, and aimed down at a 90 degree angle while anticipating something going inside, the natural reaction is to produce saliva, eh. And don't even get me started if I'm getting a back massage.

not sure if this is the correct thread, I don't mind passing a vaporizer that much, as long as people don't mind me if I wipe it off.
What does raise eyebrows on me is that, after reading FC for awhile now I noticed a lot of people that
find it very important how their vaporizer is constructed and what materials are being used.
I totally agree with them, but sometimes I can't understand why it is a problem that there is a slight
possibility some of the (cold) intake air could come in contact with the electronics for instance.
My house is next to a busy road used both by cars and big semi's a lot, I feel like i'm inhaling/ingesting more
bad particles from those things (or from my burning insence, the hot air from the blow dryer, the smoke I smell after blowing out candles, my best friend or my two dogs who are both farting machines -> inhaling farts is inhaling particles of....., eating bbc meat, wich is actually cooked in SMOKE etc etc etc) than what I would inhale from said vaporizer.
I'm pretty much technically impaired so if I'm completely wrong here, don't get mad and lets just say it's me and my technical retardation.

The problem is that it isn't clear whether that's a legit problem or not. Are one or more components producing something, while doing their job, that you wouldn't want to inhale along with your vapor?

Could be. Do we know for sure? Nope. Is everyone the same as far as how they react to various pollutants? Certainly not.

You've got good points, but I think the bottom line with vapes is that most people would prefer to eliminate or at least minimize all pollutants. Some other things you mention, like candles (use beeswax or soy candles instead of petroleum) and incense, are also within our control to minimize or eliminate, but others aren't. Wanting a device that's designed to be inhaled from, to be super clean, is understandable. Some are going to be more interested, picky, whatever, than others. That's the way it goes.

This is off topic for this thread though, which is about human pollution.
