Vaporizer for a blind person

Hi everyone,

I am a blind person and I'm thinking to buy a vaporizer.
Now, I want to know what's the best vaporzer for me.
I was thinking of the herbal aire 2.2

What I need:
- Prefer bags
- Easy to use
- easy way to know when the vapor of the herbs is up
- No high teperature outside the vaporizer
- Easy way to fill the vaporizer.

Are there good alternatives for the ehrbalaire or is this a good vape?

I have no idea, but wanted to welcome you to FC! With so many medical users of vaporizers, I hope manufacturers take people's different abilities into account with their designs.

No matter which you choose, it's pretty easy to tell when the vapor is done by the taste. It gets a kind of burnt popcorn taste once it's spent.

I'm curious, why you say you prefer bags?

Check out the Herbalizer thread. It is expensive, but probably your best option if money is not an issue.

I'm assuming bags so they can fill once and take the few hoots they need then rest.

If they were to use a whip style vaporizer(hose unit) they would need to search around for the hose over and over,possibly making it a big ordeal

Long ago I helped a legally blind user try to unbox and set up an HA via IRC chat. It was not an easy feat but got the job done. I'm not sure that would be the easiest to set up and use though.

I think consideration needs to be taken to being sure anything reached out and touched can't burn the user. I'll have to ponder a tad as to thoughts on a blind user for using/loading/unloading/cleaning.

I can't think of any way to know the herbs are used up other than the taste for you. Other than that, the Ion meets your criteria and is the only unit I have that I can think of that would be relatively safe for the blind. Once it is set up to use the only place that gets hot is the basket inside. You can leave it in there until it is cooled down later. Very few buttons and durable. Big and heavy enough to handle you bumping it with your hand as you look for it. It is the only vape I have that I think I could use relatively safely with my eyes closed.

How do you set temp on the Ion? I was just looking at some vapes and realized be hard to pick temp settings if you can't see. Does Ion have presets?

Agree with what everyone has posted prior, but wanted to chime in asking if you've ever considered primarily edibles and supplementing with a vaporizer?

I do this when I know I will be unable to vape as needed during a particular event or outing... this way the edibles give me a nice base level (which lasts much longer than vaping) and in the event that any one symptom breaks past the level of the edibles, I can then supplement an additional dose.

Has anyone recommended a Volcano? I have only used one once but to me it seems the temperature setting would be fairly straight forward on the original, as the knob would have a tactile feel to it once adjusted to the locations of various temperatures. If im not mistaken the unit doesnt get very hot and the bags and herb chamber would be fairly easy to access. Also welcome to FC!

the Ion uses two up and down buttons and remembers where it was last set. A seeing person would need to be there for the initial temp setting, I imagine.

Yes... many
I have worked with a few visually impaired patients, and a couple that were totally without sight.
Once I was connected with an unsighted friend on skype, and I verbally was back-seat driver as he moved for the cam (his mom was present, but stood respectfully back).
The best successes visually impaired friends have had in Portables has been with the Vapir NO2.
The timing of the preheat is easy to get down, and getting the meds down in there is a snap.... the oven is not exposed, unless one were to force their pinky's tip down in there.. and then it is only the tip.
It shuts self off, and is easy to quick clean after uses.
The big cleanup would need to be learned, but the structural discretion of features is tactile/friendly.
Nothing outside gets hot at all.
It is sturdy
It can be used plugged in.
Please... if you are a hater (NO2 hater) this is not the place to start a "rant"... this is a serious question, and I am coming forth with a heartfelt answer....
No glass involved, and it can be dropped from belt level without panic.
If you wear baggy pants it can be dropped in a pocket for a minute while you feel around for your keys and wallet.

SOLID state-
I am going to vote Silver Surfer, with Spherical setup.
NEVER hands free SSV for a blind vaporist.. because glass plugged into glass at a 90º angle makes NO sense.
the upward sweep of the SSV is good.
Original hand held is nice, but a fraction of a second of doubt/faith each time you are about to make contact.
spherical... ahhhh
allows one to proceed wand with finger slightly... find that parabola, and glide in for gentle landing and .... smooth aiming.
never gets hot at spots a finger can touch, that parabola is a safe friend for a "guy with a limitation in his eye"(He... who cannot see)

The choices above are the result of trial and error...
I tested all vaporizers on my signature, and allowed those visually impaired patients that participated access to try and to use them all fully as though they had no assistance available.
These were not choices I made for patients but rather observations of the patients themselves.

Well... the Solo gives audible tones when it turns on, and when the 12 minute auto shutoff activates. Plus its super easy to load and insert a stem... and for the most part the parts dont get hot enough to cause serious injury. Besides, theres really nothing to setup. Its just the solo and a stem.

The only issue I see (pardon the pun) is setting the initial temp since it has LED indicators for heat level, but once set it has an automatic temperature recall setting.

Seems pretty win to me.

Oh and I think you guys are cutting blind people short by assuming they cant get this stuff done. My uncle is legally blind and he can field strip an AR15 with ease.

Just takes practice.

Once nicely broken in, the stem then moves easily, and can stick to a lip , and land on lap.
A jolt while going for a hit can hurt a tooth.
I love it for me, but not for a blind man.

(as fact would have it I never use my solo when I vape in the darker rooms of my house, as I am a bonafide glass breaker.. and I have spasms that make a glass stem hit a soft lip hard)

Simple solutions.

An Ed's stem doesnt break since its made of wood and metal. Also, I think blind people can handle dishes/glasses, they can get on with a solid boro stem, no? I know my uncle microwaves things and even makes tea with his electric kettle and coffee with his Keurig. All of those things can get much hotter than a Solo stem. Again, maybe we are underestimating his ability to live in world full of such dangers?

But I digress...

I sometimes use my Solo in a moving vehicle, so believe me when I say that I know how hitting a tooth sucks. A small but of silicone tubing over the end of the stem prevents this and feels pretty nice on the lips.

No single vape will be perfect for someone in the OPs situation, and because of this you need to consider the ease of mitigating any inherent problems. IMO of course.

volcano classic/solid valve would be my first and only choice pretty easy to use when you can't see ,and nothing to break.seldom needs cleaning. nothing else i know uses bags that can be set up without sight.

I definitely agree, Theres essentially nothing on the MFLB that you need to see to be able to do, except perhaps loading the bowl, but it should be fine because it won't be hot. I've been trying it with my eyes closed for the past while and its fine.

I also tried my friends non-digital volcano with my eyes closed and it was quite easy as well, if you know how far to turn the power up (only takes a few times). The unit gets warm on the top outside, but nothing that would burn you.

Thanks for all this fast responses!
I know someone who uses a volcano classic. I tried it and I liked the bag system. But is not a must.
Next time when I'm at his house I will try to fill the vaporizer myself.
I find the price a little bit very high. I'm a recreative user of herbs.

I also know someone who is a backer of the grasshopper.
I think that vaporizer can also be good for me, but I will try it alsow when it comes out. It looks very easy to fill.

I live in Europe and not all the vaporizer you recommend in your responses are availlable here.

Hi falcopus. I would also consider the Plenty. From the same company as the volcano but much cheaper. I imagine it may be easy for you to use. All of the hot parts are covered during use. It is very easy to use. Also once it reaches your desired temp there is a loud click. You simply press the trigger every 90 seconds or so to heat it back up.

the volcano classic you can buy at 299.00 if you shop around so its pretty close to price ranges of the others i really don't think you be happy with anything else and someone could engrave temp setting around dial so you know the exact settings

Get the Herbalaire or solo, I am a blind user and have no problems. The thing to remember is the screwhole on the knob at 12:00 when it is off, if you point this at the light at the bottom, this sets it at 350. The solo is no problem either only issue is the buttons aren't vertical so when I first got it I was like, wtf this up button isn't changing until I figured out the way I was holding it the up button was on the left. Easy to use, both solo and herbalaire I don't grind for, I run my solo screenless and stuff a small piece in that fills up the stem and that works, the herbalaire requires no grinding, I usually just cover the screen of the crucible, and dumping the crucible out when your done is no problem. I of course have knocked the herbalaire over once or twice, and thought bud and the cruicible was still in there and stuck my finger in a 400 f oven. heh. When I load the solo and put it down when I'm not using it I lay it on its back when the glass stem is inside of i because I might forget and knock it over and having a hot stem in a hot solo falling on its back just doesn't sound like a good thing.

Volcano would be nice because the bags fill up very quickly compared to the arizer(and maybe even the herbalizer) And there is nothing to burn yourself on unless you grab the bowl plunger right after vaping. You can also hear when the bag is full because the sound changes.
