Alright guys, I have the prototype parts in hand that will make the vb2.5 an all glass stand alone dabbing rig. I did a few prelim testing and it seems it reaches about 700F as my probes are not accurate I have to get new ones as one shows 700F the other shows 200F.

Tonight I will be dabbing off the all glass version of the 2.5 and we shall see how it goes. If all goes well I think I will be sending the prototype back out to @vaporbrothers for further testing. Then hopefully we will produce a few production versions for you guys to test.


I have to confirm if the vb2 and the 2.5 are the same machine dimension wise with @vaporbrothers to see if it can be backwards compatible.

Other issues like temperatures are still being worked on and that’s being done by our head engineer.

More info to follow. Hopefully a video when I can make one.

Just to mention a few:
  1. The dab surface is not exposed, so you can not get burned
  2. It can not spatter , it is enclosed.
  3. You can not miss the target with your dabber.
  4. The dab surface is at the bottom of a "funneled" porcelain...no place else for the dab to land.

Any performance related advantages? Doesn't your Puffco Peak have all those same safety features?

Is it easy to clean this V2.5 or are you supposed to just let residues burn on to the heating element?

The Peak is a cold start device that you load, then start heat.
You cant do a HUGE dab in the peak, while the VB2 can take anything.
Residues burn off the heating surface on the "Cheesebox" (old nickname for my VB2),
and are completely gone.
The peak gets cleaned while still hot... by wiping the cup out with a q-tip.
Performance advantage is not even relative to the two devices.
The VB2 gets hotter than the Peak... only it stays on (longer time to auto shut off - 1 minute Vs. 20 minutes), and people can line up for a dab.
Residues in the VB2(and of course the VB2.5) can collect around the sides.

I fix that by running a single edged razor blade around the sides...
and then I touch it up with a tissue diped in ISO:

Yes... I left a bit down close to the dab surface.. I was in a hurry, but it
all comes off
Once in a blue moon I wipe the inside of dome down with Iso too.

Maybe i'm too sleep deprived, but what's wrong with cleaning a nail by jacking up the temps? I plan to do this with my dnail sic halo at around 900f, as long as I incrementally step up the temps to avoid thermal shock.

But does it self clean between every dab? I realize some people are not sensitive to the taste of thermally degraded compounds but I find them nearly noxious. Being able to clean the all glass version after each use sounds much better.

I wouldn't worry about thermal shock, its high conductivity means its very resistant to thermal shock.

You will prob still be swabbing after every dab. I'm talking about using high temperatures as the only form of self-cleaning.

Speaking of progress is there any more news on this? I’ve thought about purchasing one of these for a very long time but it seemed plagued with issues, and then low temp dabbing and high end materials really blew up, then quartz bangers with inserts but I’m still curious about this device. Are the heaters stable? Why silicon nitride my understanding is the cost is high is it worth it? Have other materials been considered? I like the all glass idea but was wondering how much of the product was getting an overhaul and whether cost and construction were considerations.

I have noticed that I can take a higher temp dabs on certain bangers if timing, airflow and amount of material (usually much larger) are all correct without burning it whereas if I went less on temp it would burn terrible. I’m not sure why because it doesn’t make sense but wondering if VB2.5 is going with similar logic. I know awhile VB2 was marketed with the Leidenfrost effect( Im not a scientist so correct me if I’m wrong) which I believe states that at certain temp above boiling a vapor layer is formed and liquid hovers and doesn’t boil rapidly. Pressure, material (density, viscosity, purity), properties of surface all play a role in what that temp is but not going pretend I understand the complexities and math of all those variables. I do know Dnail was trying to avoid the Ledeinfrost Effect because vapor was slower to produce and nucleate boiling had higher energy transfer and faster vapor production. It’s old discussion but just curious about why Ledeinfrost effect was marketed and is it still the concept behind VB2.5? Is it valid? I have experimented with many different devices and ways to vaporize but haven’t tried this particularly device and experimentation is the name of the game so curious....
