I put this in the gaint Vapor Genie thread but thought I might make a new one for it as well:

Here is a mini photo review of the Classic Vapor Genie.

I have been combusting for 13 years and have quite a collection of gear. Here is what I am replacing:

Ordering
-----------

I placed my order direct from the manufacturer on a Tuesday night, made a quick lighter color change on Wednesday and got the package on Friday. Very good customer service.

I bought the Classic Vapor Genie in walnut, the small aluminum grinder, the Vector lighter and the Pouch for about $110 which I think is a great deal. A grinder is key.

The Experience
------------------

This is single most amazing herb consuming device I have ever encountered.

First a few words on my history of vapping. I made a few homemade vaporizers in college about 13 years ago. Basically just a portable coffee pot heather built into a wooden box with a goldfish tank on top, a plastic whip and dimmer for temp control. The thing was hard to use and would result in combustion most of the time. I also never really liked the high that much as I was use to the huge body high from smoking swag at the time. A few years later I got a Cloud 9 Vaporizer which worked ok but in the end I preferred smoking at the time and gave it away.

Now having smoked for 13 years I am so glad I discovered a portable, effective, and simple vaporizer enabling a healthier way to consume my favorite herbs. I wish I would have gotten one in 2004 when they came out! This thing delivers the cleanest, tastiest highs. I vow now, after one full day of use to never go back to burning and inhaling smoke.

Having read this entire thread over 3 days while waiting on the mail I was able to vap a great first bowl. I cannot say how pleased I am with its ease of use. On my third bowl I was able to pull 2 quick deep vaps while driving with my knees. I just cup the entire bowl in my hand and it looks like I am lighting a cigarette (all be it for 10-15 seconds :) but I was able to get a hit off in time to not draw attention.

My general technique is about 5 seconds of slow toking and then once I feel the air warm up and sweeten I pull hard and raise the lighter slightly while gently rotating it around the rim with the flame just dipping down in the very top of the bowl.

If I use my blower (just a replacement gas mask filter) there is zero smell at all since no vapor leaves the pipe during or after using it. If not using a blower the air will smell my your herb of choice but no where near smoke. I can vap almost anytime with this baby as you can pack a bowl and then store the pipe away to be pulled out and hit and replaced in under a minute.

The tastes are so amazing and you don't smell like an ashtray for the whole night. I could not be happier and I am talking my 4 close buddies into getting them to so I never have to 'smoke' again :)

I have now banished all my old smoking gear to the attic except for one hitter just in case a guest really would prefer to burn. One nice thing is that the pipe and pouch do not reek like weed as my hold pouch for my pipes did. The difference it amazing.

I give this device a 10/10 hands down. I think I am going to have to get the glass Genie now! It is also amazing how efficient this little gem is. Each bowl is about 1/2 of what I would pack in my bong before for 2 bong rips. Now I get about 4 deep vapor rips form half as much green and I am amazed at how clean the high is. WIth my bong after a session I would be much more likely to veg on the couch but now I am racing to get stuff done and engaging people more.

Mods
------

I am trying to mod my 12 inch Zong for use with the VG's toper. Since all the work is done by the topper and it screws into a standard bowl I built a metal stem for it at the local headshop. I also placed a cut metal paper clip in the base of the bowl for the screen to sit on top of just as is done in the Vapor Genie. I am still getting the technique down but I did get some nice vaps off it already using no water for better airlfow control. Watching the vapor rise in the tube is nice.

The stem gets way to hot right now though. I need to get a handle on there somehow but the headshop was of no help. I also think I might try a jet lighter on it as well since the airflow is much higher then the pipe which makes it hard to hit the right temp with a standard flame lighter.

I also like to toke on vacation sometimes so I also thought about how to take my vaporizer in a checked suitcase. I came up with a $8 cheapo metal pipe that I can just screw the topper on. Since the topper does not touch the herb I can check it and since the pipe is still clean I can check it too. Once the vacation is over the pipe gets tossed and the topper gets wiped down and then checked back home :)

Conclusion
------------

If you consume herb you need one of these; no question about it. Overall I am very pleased with all the items I ordered from Vapor Genie. The pouch is super nice with a slick pocket for my lighter and Visine. And the Vector light is perfect for lighting the bowl without burning your fingers. For $100 you too and give up on smoking herb and start inhaling it!

Pros:
Portable
Inexpensive
Well made
Gives great vapor rips
Best solo device out there
Efficient
Can be loaded and then pocketed for later use

Cons:
Small bowl
Learning curve with guests

I fixed my bong mod issue with a bit of plywood, inspired by the Genie.

Hits like a champ once you get used to the air flow.

Ia! Ia! Vapor Fthagn!
I've actually put my vaporgenie bowl and filter on a bong several times. Was quite fun. Havn't done that in a while (did find learning curve when doing this was different, burned a few bowls first time out with a bong)

Some of the smoothest vapor hits I've ever had were from my VG bowl attached to my plastic bong filled with ice...good times! You really can get an excellent setup for not much money if you want.

Got some great pulls off the Zong with water the other night. Just have to watch for the vapor so you don't get it too hot and burn.

I ended up getting a tiny bit of smoke on the last hit. I ended up ordering just a classic topper to live on my bong full time ;)

Also I reviewed the Glass Vapor Genie here:

I love having the choice of a nice glass piece, portable solo pipe and a nice glass bong to vaporize with now :)
