Is there any reason no one uses fritted discs? Fear of inhaling bits of glass? Because I have been using really porous quartz frits (160-250 microns) 10mm 2.5mm thickness with my nano and it works great but I never hear much about fritted discs except used as a perc. Just wondering if there is a reason why.

Probably availability and size matching. All the listed options can form to any bowl size and shape, so a fritted disc is more likely to be made for the specific vape. What vape and configuration are you using, @Ferrusbuelker ?

Interesting. Recently took apart a Vape710 tank. Assumed the wick was very porous ceramic. Probably was, but same idea. Could be right about glass powder. Recommend reading @2clicker's post of research by Uwell - an e-cig company explaining why it doesn't use ceramic wicks.

Thanks for the replies and link. I’ve read the post and I remember how much controversy that caused in some circles when the new ceramic atomizers were coming around. And I think they are right that ceramic degrades over time at least that has been my experience. Right now I’m using quartz fritted discs in my nano stem which is 2.5mm thick, porosity of 160-250 microns and 10mm diameter. I usually have to sand it a little bit but it definitely fits. The porosity interest me particularly as there is another thread about the size of matter depending on vape, heat and pressure. And my experience has been I get different effect when using the frits, cleaner if that makes any sense. You can get these discs from scientific companies although usually $50 minimum. I’m not a scientist but I don’t believe quartz degrades the same way as ceramic but I could be wrong. The only problem is the cursed detrification when molecular structure is rearranged but I don’t believe that causes little bits of quartz to come off the structure. The biggest issue is installing the quartz in the stem which can create quartz dust. All this sort of experimenting coming with risk so I’m not in anyway endorsing everyone going out and trying this but just was curious if anyone has experience with using these and any warning. My personal experience is I’ve gotten great results although I make sure there is plenty of water when I first install the frit and once it’s in place don’t touch it at all. I’ve also tried doing this with my Mi, firefly and ghost. Mixed results. Nano is by far my favorite.

i believe that the concern was over porous ceramics only... if im not mistaken. and that non-porous ceramics should not break down. could be wrong, but i dont use any wicking materials anymore so i gave up on ceramic. i have been thinking about trying to incorporate a quarts plate or cup with my new build.

after discovering the joys of concentrates in the e-nano (mostly bubble ice hash) I came here in search of a vaping medium to keep the screen clean, etc.

Some swear by cotton, others stainless steel wool, and finally, others say flowers.

I personally don't like using flowers for this purpose because they vape faster than my concentrate.

so, my question is: what do you prefer and why
A balled up piece of metal concentrate pad from a vape like the Volcano. It doesn't impart any flavor onto the vaporized material. Do be careful to avoid the little metal slivers that can stick around after you cut through the pad. You don't want to inhale any of those. I'd think pulling a little chunk off would be better than cutting it.

To answer the poll, I picked flower bed. A little ball of wax on a bed of flower makes it feel like the flower is putting out infinite clouds. For a concentrate-only session, steel wool is best, imo.

I have been using organic cotton, but I'm really not digging the added taste from the cotton itself.
Cotton adds a flavor almost like drier sheets. It's unpleasant, and I don't like not knowing what chemicals are being released in order to cause that.

That's cool. Got a link to any of your favorites? I'll play along...

Yes I usually use G.M. Associates

They quartz wool which I’m curious about but definitely haven’t tried.

There are a lot of options out there

If you are thinking about going forward with be very careful. The frits are delicate so handle with extreme care when installing. After installed I run a lot of water through the frit to get any possible quartz dust. Just make sure the frit doesn’t go down the drain. I know I’ve already stressed this but use caution when doing this and once it’s installed you do not want to make contact with it if possible.

Same here, I love the herb sandwich especially through water. Huge clouds.

I want to make my own dry sift once it all becomes legal up here in canada

Like just take the whole plants and just separate resin heads from plant material and chuck out all the vegetable and just keep the resin glads.

And ive been thinking about how i would vape it which got me wondering how bad would it be if i just smoked it in a pipe like with a lighter lol .

I have switched to vapor only havnt smoked in a long time but if i were to have a very clean drysift and smoked it would it really be all that bad ?

At least i wouldnt have to worry about metal shavings or weird stuff from cotton or hemp .

Would it be "that bad?" Probably not, I mean even smoking weed isn't THAT bad, let alone with high quality dry sift. That said, if you were to go through the trouble of making your own sift, I think you'll find it much more enjoyable through a vaporizer. Consider using glass or ceramic for vaporizing it instead of metal, cotton, or hemp pads.

You could also squish your sift using the rosin method and enjoy your product off various devices that way.

I have been watching videos with that slug .33 again and think this might be a good way to get real good amount of return . probably a lot more then dry sifting .

I just remember smoking hash back in the late 80s and it was soo awesome . i miss those days, and the hash we used to get back then was the real stuff like lebenease red and gold seal black . and what i think was probably temple balls . that stuff was so good .

Maybe it just seemed really good because i wasnt as experienced with it as i am now but it was awesome .

Latley i think im missing some of the effects of cbn or maybe some other canabiniod from smoking . that im not getting through vaping .

i dont know but vaping seems to be to a little too uppidy for me lately , to cerebral sometimes leading to anxity even with high cbd strain .

I have been thinking about smoking again but i have been so good with just vaping and think my lungs are better now that i have givin up smoking for a good while . but i just miss it and thinking about how i could possibly cut out the bad stuff as much as possible .

If i can get rid of all the vegetable leaf material and just smoke the gland heads it might be a opition
