Who vapes at work? I certainly do; being a night time security officer gives me lots of opportunity, and I do it with varying frequency. I've had a few close calls but nothing really worth going into. I'd love to hear what other people have to say about it.

I don't work high. Too much in-depth detail analysis, thought and memory required. It's also a high stress, in your face, extremely competitive and professionally unforgiving environment. You gotta be on top of your game.

I have observed other's working high on rare occasions and while I noticed it immediately very few other folks picked up on it except to ask the person to 'pay attention and keep up' when the person used the 'Sorry, was multi-tasking' excuse. It's the obvious discomfort I observed in others that convinced me not to go there.

I'm a carpenter and I can't work high. For one I have much less energy so manual labour side is more draining. And for some reason maths is much harder when I'm high. It just doesn't compute. And it's basic math. Just can't get the hypotenuse when I'm high. Expensive mistakes are easily made when stoned. Figured this out the hard way years ago.

Another good reason for me not to be stoned at work is the obvious danger all around. Building sites are not the place to be less than aware.

And if I got high all day at work I would not appreciate the after work vape.
This would play havoc with my tolerance.

But If i was a security guard, alone for 12 hours, fuck it I'd be high all the time. That's mind numbing work I would have to vape or I'd go mad and think myself to death.

That's how I feel about it. I only do it one or two days out of the week, but it definitely makes the night pass easier. I can definitely see why you guys in higher energy jobs would have to avoid it though

Sounds like my job completely and these reasons are the same exact reasons I do vape at work oddly enough. Vaping helps me to stay on track and not let my anxiety side track me to start thinking about 5 different things when completing one task, however it also allows me to multi-task or jump from one task to another when something comes up because I am already in a calmed state and ready to take on the high stress fire drill type of situation that is going to come up. I am responsible for many financial decisions that could technically result in the loss of my job or even worse, a company upset that would result in legal disputes or a company shut down. The herb helps me keep calm and keep even so I can make these decisions rationally and not hastefully.

I have been in the same career line for almost 15 years now and I have always withheld this information from my bosses except at one place of employment. They new I smoked herb, but I guess they were naïve to me doing it on the job. They all smoked too, but not on the job. After 4 years of working for them they finally realized I was always high on the job. They gave me an ultimatum to stop while at work or don't come to work. I tried stopping only to realize my performance suffered greatly as well as my attitude. I started using again behind their backs and they all went naïve again and everything worked out.

I don't work there anymore, but I have the same position for a similar but larger company now. I don't think my boss uses and I don't think he would like to find out that I do, however (go ahead and call me cocky but I'm just that confident really) if he put it all together I don't think I would get fired. I do my job very well and I would not be easy to replace.

May take on this is when you accept a job it is basically a agreement/contract between you and your employer.
This makes sense. But mosty for recreational users.

Using it medically is a different ball game. I know that every employer wouldn't want you high on the job; but that's just it-what is high? Plenty of things cause peoples mind to alter. When I went the coffee route, people thought I was using cocaine. My mind was different and so was my body. People will think what they want to. Ive been sober at work and have been accused of being "high" because I have cronic dry eye. As far as medically, Sativas can be great when you're depressed and can't get out of bed to go to said job. They can brighten your spirits in dark times. Plenty of folks have digestive and other problems(ibd, crohns, colitis) and using an Indica can relieve pain symptoms.
Let's not forget people with severe anxiety.

That being said, every job is different. If you were an office worker vs. Crane operator, I would understand how a "contract" or "understanding" could be valid.

If you use mj medically and can't go without medicating during the required work hours, don't be a "crane operator."

Acceptance is the problem.
Do you know how many people are on pharmas at work?

All that being said, I realize some people just want to be high at work as well.

If your state decides to legalize cannabis you will see more companies asking for a drug test. I would say 50% of the jobs in private business require a drug test in my state.

So be careful what you wish for.

I don't use cannabis while I'm working.

I know this. My boss would not like to know I vape @ work. I also know he appreciates my work and attitude more when I am vaked. Actually I probably vape more at work then anywhere else. I work night shift and hardly vape during the days.

This is a tricky situation for me.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. ANY of my employers sans Wendy's in high school, I'd be fired immediately if they knew I was working high. So, in the big scheme of things, a risk I shouldn't take.

At Wendy's, I used to close the store, it was somewhat expected if you worked at Wendy's to smoke weed, and many of my first interactions with it were here. I'd get intermittently high throughout the day, and prior to coming in, but once 10 o clock came around, me and the other guy would go in his car and just box the shit out of it while our manager was inside. If a car came through, I'd often just take their order from inside my buddies car while smoking, and then rush inside and try to remember it all to put in the computer. Fun times

I used to work an assembly line, packaging up stuff.....either taking it from the line into the packages, or taking those packages and putting them into boxes. 8-12 hour shifts, with 2-3 hours of work at a time before a mandated 15-30 minute break. I'd get high prior to work, and I'd get high during my breaks. Was stupid as I just was running out to my car, smoking quickly, and then going into the cig shack. I'm sure other employee's knew, they just didn't care.

Very boring and monotonous work.

I got a job doing security at an engineering company my mother worked for. First day, I went in high to set precedent and so I wouldn't appear "off" and I smoked before that job the entire time. Smoked a lot during the job too when I was "on tour" checking other buildings. Actually, had it pretty good too. I worked Sunday which was a day I could get blasted, up until Wednesday, with my Wednesday shift being a day shift into an overnight. So, at the end of my first shift, I'd go get stoned and get dinner, made my 2nd shift fly by getting high every 2 hours while on tour.

Actually fucked up a good thing to be honest, as my buddy needed a job, so I got him in. We started getting more wreckless, and then his buddy (who also dealt) needed a job so we got him in, and we got more wreckless. When those two worked together, they were not smart about it at all, and it led to us all getting randomly drug tested....I called off work that day and lucked out, but they still fired me (I won the case and got a bunch of unemployment, they really screwed up their Reason for Termination on my firing sheet)

Now, I do technician/sales/engineering work. I absolutely never get high before I go out on site or meet with customers. If I'm doing lots of sales calls, I typically won't either as it makes me sloppy and I talk too de-energized, but sometimes it has the opposite effect.

But if I'm doing programming, or for instance, today I was setting up lots of quotes, I got high on my lunchbreak. I live a stones throw away from my office, so its no big thing to "go have lunch at home" and vape a bit. I've not been doing it much lately, as I agree when I'm on the clock I shouldn't be high, and I work more effectively sober on actual tasks, but anything that is a "BS" task or somewhat monotonous, I do try to get high prior.

I don't have a boss for fifty miles and I work out of a separate shop with one co worker. He is a non smoker, but I gave him some green rice crispy treats a while back. He wants more now. :D

Everyone at my work knows I partake but I make them way more money than they really give a fuck, so they leave me alone, as long as I am productive.

Surely what you do in your own time is your own business. What would piss testing tell them? That you use cannabis out of work. That's none of their business, specially if it's legal.
I would argue that it is discrimination and take them to court. You can't specify 'no foreign' or 'no learning difficulties', so you can't discriminate for people using weed either.
Obviously in USA they do though. With all the Lawers in states I'd have though this would have been a case already.

I tend to avoid vaping before work just because I don't enjoy the session as much when I get home.

I'm a software developer and sometimes it improves my work, because I get right into the code, where as on other occasions, I can't wrap my head around the problem, let alone work out how I'm going to implement a solution.

My Boss knows I used to smoke weed, as he has caught me many a year at the Chrimbo party having a spliff outside, but as I do such a good job and have done for over 10 years, as long as it doesn't affect my work, I don't think he cares.

Before vaping and giving up smoking, I quit dope for nearly a year, so I don't know if my Boss realises I'm back on the weed, but I also don't think he'd care.

Crikey back in my youth I used to go to work tripping as a mainframe computer operator, but those days are long behind me!

I believe it's down to the individual, how much you are affected and what job you do.

I don't think I'd vape for work if I was a brain surgeon or drove the school bus.

From my Freshman year all the way until I was 27ish I was high as long as I was awake...literally.

First thing in the morning I'd hit the bong or roll a blunt to start the day...

I was the Line Supervisor for Rival , and I ran team of 9 employees and we built huge industrial blowers.
At the time, being high was the only way I could focus on anything other than my chronic pain. (I've had my symptoms of AS for about 20 years but was not diagnosed until just a few years ago.)
So, essentially..I was self-Medicating, but I was certainly enjoying my Cannabis.

Lol..

Being the Supervisor,I was able to get my friend a job..
We had to clock in before 6:01 am to be on time.... Well... I was giving my friend a ride everyday, and he was not a morning person.

I'd be BUMPING some Wu-Tang, smoking a huge blunt ...and my friend was barely awake, but would still smoke on *some* of my blunt...

He'd always say...."Jesus dude, how the hell do you work smoking that whole damn thing.?!"..Big ass blunts and blowing my eardrums out with your stereo at 5:30 am?!?"

I always rolled Optimos, the biggest cigar my local gas station carried, I could fit about 10 grams in those things.:freak:

Then my next job was a Detail Manager for Ford... I pretty much had two giant bays that were isolated from the rest of the shop...
Jeez.... I just put my bowl in my cabinet, and smoke whenever I wanted.

But that was the last job that I'd get high at.

I was then promoted to Service Writing, then Customer Service Manager...

No way in hell, I can be baked and deal with angry old people that just bought a 45,000$ truck and their transmission blows out.

I tried a couple of times, and I just felt very uncomfortable... I would have to process my thoughts three and four steps ahead of what I was saying to my customers.

I was stoned when they hired me, @ Medical. @ First day @ Last day and everyday in between. Factory work. Last 20 years pumped gas before they drove truck off assembly line. I always said I am already retired, just haven't stopped working yet.
Been retired 13 years and am still enjoying the ride.

If a privately owned company has a zero drug policy in place, like mine, the legality of canna makes no difference.

Piss dirty and it does not matter when or where.

I refused to sign their agreement and I work here anyways. My favorite meme.

I'm gonna go a little off topic here, but I feel like it should be worth a post.

Regarding mandatory Urinalysis for employment is one of the most ridiculous prerequisites in our Country.

The Cannabis consumer is basically the only "user" that will be automatically disqualified from possible employment.
Heroin, Meth, Coke...and Alcohol all depart the body in less than a week.

As a former "boss" ... I'd much rather have an employee that only consumes Cannabis vs an Alcoholic, Meth/Crack head.

Every single pot user I know are hard working, intelligent generally "good people "

However, the acquaintances I know that partake in the other substances....
Can't hold a job, girlfriend or boyfriend, would rob their own parents to obtain their DOC.

I had 3 different employees under me directly at the restaurant I was managing prior to my disability application.

These guys SUCKED when sober, running the wrong food to the wrong places, couldn't take food orders properly.
However, when they were stoned, they ROCKED... Smiling faces, and more focused, no mistakes and their attitudes were night and day .

Soooo.... I grow my own..

If I saw that the guys were sober, I knew it was because they were out of herb..
Being the best boss on the planet...
Before the restaurant opened... I'd give them a huge joint and order a smoke session before we opened the doors.

I only partake at night, so I'd cover their assignments while they got "level".

This was awesome for me.... Do good work, and the boss will get you high...
Do bad work, and ...well.... No weed for you!

It fascinated me.... To see the way it changed their entire demeanor.

Cannabis should be required rather than illegal...haha

Only you can prevent ganja fires.
Some nights I work overnight as an alarm dispatcher for a small alarm company. I could probably get away with it seeing as I work alone in the office but I honestly don't feel comfortable putting someone at risk for the sake of getting baked. Even though I believe I could properly do my job "under the influence" I would never once consider it.

I do not get high at work or before going. I have been there (not at the current job) and found it unpleasant to have to constantly be triple checking everything I do simply because I am paranoid I might miss something. Then noticing that only two minutes have passed.

I don't understand how people think they can do their jobs and people not know you're "a little" high. I'm afraid I fuck up enough when completely sober. I'm not giving anybody a reason to fire me. I'm too old for that shit.

I had a job a few years ago in a warehouse in a medical MJ state. One of my coworkers had a medical card and with the condition of his eyes he needed it. He swore he never smoked at or before work, but was high enough one day to admit to me that he always smoked 2 joints half an hour before work. He would constantly make mistakes mis-tagging merchandise. One day he went to move a pallet, picked it up and tried to be cute about tossing it on a pile. Snapped his thumb clean in two. So he ends up on workers compensation because he was high and did something stupid.

If an employer hires someone knowing they use it medically and are fine with them using while on the clock, then by all means it's cool. Those employers are few and far between. Otherwise tough it out for 8 hours then get mellow. Treat yourself. You work hard.
