Vaping after Pneumothorax Surgery

Hello. Im completly new to Vapors (and no native speaker, so sorry for the grammar)

I´ve had a lung surgery a few weeks ago. Before the pneumothorax i smoked cigs and joints. Im smoke-free since the surgery (c+j).

In abaout 3 months my lungs will be completly recovered from the surgery. And right about now im considering to buy a vaporizer (arizer solo) or just do edibles.

My questions are:

Any health side effects due to vaping?

Would you vape or eat?

Thank you very much!

Well i haven't had lung surgery, but i have lung issues ;) . Vaping does not bother my lungs and i prefer it to edibles. I like to be in charge of how high i get and that's not always possible with edibles unless you have had the same batch before.

I do not notice any issues with vaping that effect my lung disease. This is just my opinion.

I think that one of the biggest things you should consider is will vaping and the ritual around it make you want to smoke cigarettes again. Three months off them is nothing, it's a very hard habit to quit. I used vaping to help me quit smoking -every time i had the urge, i'd vape :D

I'm assuming you had a thoracotomy, but not sure if you had a primary spontaneous , secondary or a traumatic Pnemuo that precipitated the need for surgery. The first two as you know are more likely in smokers and or lung disease, either way i'd lay off vaping too for a LONG time to let those lungs heal properly.

See if you can find some tincture that you can titrate to desired effect or make your own edibles to tide you over and then definitely use a Vape.

That really helped - im going with edibles for a while i think. i wasnt a heavy (weed) user before, so its not that hard for me i hope.

but the vaping / cig-smoking aspect is new to me. i didnt thought about that. but now i will.

They took off some lung tissue from the top, the middle and the bottom. i had some blisters on the outside of the lungs. this blisters can pop und then the lung will maybe collaps. its very painfull but not really life threatening.

Cigs had nothing to do with the cause - but they definitly improve the possibility of a blister-pop cuz cigs do make the lung tissue weaker, somehow.

anyway, thanks!

hi , i have had the same problem as you and had bilateral pleurectomy done,
both lungs a year apart and was a smoker and quit when my lung collapsed the first time,
After a few months of recovery i got a magic flight box so i could get the smoke like hit and control the dose , edibles were unpredicable for me ,
but i found i was replacing the cig smoking habit with the vape so i put it away for a while until i broke the habit completly bout 6 months,
i vape mainly with a wychwood log vape now and i feel fine cant say it does zero harm as i have no proof but it does not seem to be , i drink a good bit of water as i find vaping can dry you out a bit.
I vape with a glass bong but no water it lets the vapor cool down so its much easier on the lungs and throat.
I also found that when i stopped vaping and edibles i got a lot of infections and had to go to hospital 3 times to have intravenous antibiotics and since i started back with the vape i have had no more infections could be a coincidence tho.

hey @delta 9

thanks for sharing your story with me! its good to know there are others with such problems.

how long did you wait until you vaped again / starting to vape?

so, you never tried "real" vaporizers like the arizer solo or extreme q? im considering to buy the solo in the next weeks.

how did you noticed the infections? and where had they been?

Thanks!

hey doppelgott , after my lung collasped the first time i did not try vaping for about 4 months but soon put it away as i was not ready for it had to break cig smoking habit and not replace it with vaping.
I have tryed and own many different types of vape and the magic flight and the wychwood are real vapes , i know magic flight is manual temp control which takes getting used to , the wychwood is a very powerfull vape and can whitewall the glass like you just put a lighter to it, some of my friends have said sure thats smoking but when they taste the vapor and see the abv is tan brown and not burned they cant believe it.
i was goin to get a solo too but got a wispr instead and sold it after a few months as its very hot and drying but people who smoke love it so sold it to a smoker friend to try and get him over to vaping.
i have heard that the solo is a restrictive draw which sounds uncomfortable but would like to try it and you can buy special stems for easier draw.
I like the simple feel of a wood vape, and just got a firewood, ones with plastic just feel unatural and wrong.
The infection were in my chest and i felt sick and run down but my ordeal went on for 2 years so i was very rundown and had lost weight so i was prone to being sick.

I just got a Solo yesterday. I think you'd be fine with that. Slow and steady pulls give nice vapor and the taste is great. I don't find it that restrictive. It's a great vape and smaller than i thought it was going to be when i saw photo's. I'm very happy with my purchase just wish it was as inconspicuous as my Pax for outdoor use.

Im considering buying the pax at the moment. Solo is still my fav but you know, stealth. Would you recommend the pax or solo?

For stealth i'd recommend the Pax. It's works well and is easy to hide. I walk around the city using that one , but for taste the Solo.

I would look into something like the Extreme Q, or Herbalizer, or maybe even a volcano. the point I'm trying to make is that I think that doing bags of vapor would be better then pulling really hard on a vaporizer. Im guessing that you have reduced lung function somewhat and would find bags to be much easier to inhale/ less prone to hurting something in your lungs. I have owned both the solo and the Extreme Q, and the solo has a FAR more restricted draw, I can imagine the the constant suction required with a solo would not be something you would not want in your situation.
Edit: i think he was saying smoother not smother, just a little typo, and to answer that question i think that the solo has a smoother draw/vape, i don't own a pax, but got to hit a friends one time.

Ah lol The Solo has smoother vapors. I have a Volcano and the Solo is actually easier on my lungs. With the Volcano i get more Vapor that is harsher than when i use the Solo.

No worries Doppelgott, as long as you're not a cloud chaser, i think you'll really like the Solo. The taste is great -best tasting Vape i own. Yes the Volcano is easy and you see a lot of vapor and it's great for multiple user settings, but it's much harsher. I think your lungs will enjoy the Solo, mine do :D

Whats about that "issue"?

Thanks again, you´re really a goldmine of vape-knowlegde!
