vape vs combustion

When I vape it takes me a good pack or two (20+ small hits) to get high enough for my liking.

When I hit a bong it takes 3-4 hits...

Is vaping 20+ hits still better for you than smoking just 3-4 hits?

In this report here:

www.ukcia.org/research/pipes.php

Which I know is old (1996), it talks about vapes still having a tar/THC ratio.

So would 20-30 vape rips maybe have the same amount of tar as just 3-4 bong rips? Or maybe even more?

I have always known it takes more vape hits to get high for me, but I'm trying to understand if it's really that much better Han ripping a bong...

I think vaping is healthier, any way you slice it... but I am no MD. I do have questions:

  • I am curious what device are you using and how much material you put in each chamber?

  • When you vape, are you also vaping out of a bong? Or do you use a device like the Pax? (Are you really comparing apples to apples?)

  • Have you considered other vapes, like the lotus cap for your bong?

I hook my little bubbler up to my DBV...

DBV -> whip -> bubbler

I have considered lotus but I would rather not have to use a mini torch...

"Better for you" usually indicates a health question and in that respect numbers don't matter. Smoke of any kind isn't good for your lungs. If you're asking about getting high, it's your body and only you can make that determination. If you consider the drowsiness produced by carbon monoxide and benzene during combustion to be part of the mj high, and value that aspect, then you'll probably be happier as a smoker.

There have been no studies on this question (and don't hold your breath waiting), so unless you're just taking a poll, where you accept the most popular answer as fact, you're wasting your time asking.

Since you're heating the vape, then removing the torch before you hit, use of a torch is moot. This also has nothing to do with your topic, and the rule is one topic per thread.

How is it different from smoking? Why Vaporize?
Because it is much healthier than combusting!

Although both vaporization and combustion use heat to release the active ingredients, the major differences are the temperature used and the resulting by-products of each method.

When smoking, temperatures can reach ~800-900C. At these temperatures pyrolization occurs. This process not only chemically alters some of the actives (and thus, deactivates them), but results in harmful by-products including carbon monoxide, benzene, toluene, naphthalene, tars, particulates and polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

When vaporized, the herb stays below the point of combustion (approx. 230C). Desired active compounds are released, while harmful combustion by-products are dramatically reduced or avoided entirely.

After combustion, any remaining material is a black, soot-type ash. Since vaporizing doesn't burn the product, the structural integrity of the herb is for the most part maintained (the remaining material generally weighs less than the input material). Vaporized remains, commonly referred to as ABV (Already Been Vaped), are often saved by the user in order to further extract active compounds. Users can revape, cook with and/or make a tincture from the ABV in order to extract remaining actives. The color of the ABV can be a primary indicator of the difference between combusting and vaporizing.

I got this off of vaporpedia. Do the research. A lot of resources out there and misinformation.
