Vape Nicotine?

In all technicality, the author is correct. Nicotine is a very dangerous thing in high concentrations, the ways it can enter the body are numerous.

However, this article is chock full of FUD, hyperbole and bias to the point where the reality has been skewed to make things seem far more precarious and uncontrollable than it actually is. Liquid nicotine has been available for decades as an ingredient in tobacco cessation products and pesticides, and high concentrations of it are legally controlled in many countries. E-Juice contains a relatively small concentration of nicotine in comparison, and I have never seen e-juice that has not come in a child safe bottle.

I think there needs to be better regulation of the nicotine supply chain, but articles like this are just trying to stoke controversy. Best to just ignore them.

exactly. they complain that its not controlled but legally sold, well fuck then lets work to make it controlled (not really saying much there, just a label). E-cigs helped me kick a nasty habit. Atleast getting off nicotine with e cigs is easier than cigs. Anyway, horrible article I think every cigarette smoker should get a good tank, decent battery, and the best quality e-juice you can get. Fuck cancer.

Those types of articles are all over the news lately. Another anti tactic to sway public opinion as they don't like vaping because "it looks like smoking" and the "save the children" mentality. Grrr! Don't even get me started. These articles contain tons of misinformation and many times straight up lies. There is good research out there showing vaping is hundreds if not thousands times safer than smoking. Don't believe the propaganda.

Edited to add: http://reason.com/blog/2014/03/24/new-york-times-warns-that-drinking-e-cig

A brilliant response to the onslaught of articles on this subject lately.

Some who want to put e-cigs in the same boat with the chemical laden, cancer causing tobacco version actually come up with the ridiculous scare tactic that e-cig use can lead to smoking cigs. Now if a teen takes up using e-cigs due to the coolness factor, it's easy to use flavored nic juice with no nicotine. Why would any non-smoker with half a brain decide to get themselves addicted to nicotine when it's just as easy to use 'em without the poison. As for e-cigs prompting any non-smoker to switch to cigarettes, I can't imagine that kind of stupidity. 'Let me switch to something that hurts my throat and lungs and causes cancer'. The e-cig industry is gonna need a new tag line- 'banning e-cigs promotes lung cancer'.

IMO, the real deal is that e-cig/personal nic vapes are hitting the mainstream and big tobacco either feels or projects profit losses. Sooo... they start rumbling about reducing their loybbing & PAC donations which sets the politicians on fire. Add to that tax losses from dwindling tobacco taxes and e-cigs now have a target on their back. The recent media fury is just the tip of the iceberg until all the players can figure out how to get their piece of the pie...money wise. This kind of shit always boils down to money.

Just yesterday, the head of the public health department in my state when on camera complaining about the "organized and highly sophisticated" marketing campaigns of the e-cig industry targeting children. I was like WTF? The e-cig industry is almost all mom and pop or at best small businesses. There is no organized or highly sophisticated marketing campaigns. Just hysteria that distracts people from real issues. Nothing changes.

Random thoughts:

What would happen if a person accidentally got some tobacco in their mouth, where it might inadvertently lodge itself between the cheek and gum? The resulting nicotine juice would be strong enough to kill the poor sap's entire family I'd imagine. Good thing that is a far-fetched scenario that could never possibly happen.

The individual that died from nicotine did so by injecting it his arm. I don't know if people realize what will happen to a person if they inject themselves with AIR (massive fatal heart attack). I think lawmakers need to get regulations in place regarding this hazardous gas that we so innocently expose our children to day in and day out.

At some point in the past children gained exclusive rights over things sweet, fruit-flavored, and brightly colored. If your product fits all three of the criteria, all parental responsibility regarding that product is nullified. There is no logical way a non-child could enjoy such a thing. You are an inherently bad and predatory person for even thinking of such a product let alone selling or owning it.

Where are you from? In the US dipping tobacco is common, available at pretty much every gas station/grocery/convenience store. You put the shredded tobacco in between your lip and gum, the nicotine is absorbed through your skin.

There's also snuff, the actual snuff tobacco, not the "snuff" that is dip. Snuff, aka nasal tobacco, is placed in your nose to let the mucous membrane absorb the nicotine. That's some really cool stuff, I've got a small tin of it in my desk. Love to indulge in actual tobacco but I dipped enough wintergreen that I cannot stand dip anymore, and I quit smoking everything, so snuff is the only whole tobacco product I enjoy. In fact I snuffed a bit yesterday and a bit the day before, after having gone some months without using it.

Anyways yeah pure nicotine is quite deadly, since it can be absorbed through your skin getting a drop or two of pure nic extract could kill you. Juice is mixed so that the actual inhaled amount is relatively low. You'd have to spill really strong juice (mixed juice, not pure nic) on your skin and let it completely absorb first.

Plus, leaving your shit out like that is irresponsible when you have kids or pets. I don't leave my weed stuff out just so my DOG doesn't get too curious, my ecig juices are in a little box on a shelf out of sight and out of mind.

By the way, apparently the only recorded death from nicotine extraction ecig juice stuff was from a guy that committed suicide by injecting nicotine...

Try reading my post as if it was sarcastically written. I'm sorry if my attempts at levity have failed by a mile. :\

To be honest, it was a bit late when I was reading the thread and didn't notice you mentioned basically the same stuff as me

Vaping nicotine was the only way I was able to quit smoking after 20+ years after trying everything else.

Same for a few friends who were able to quit only by ecig use.

Sure, everything has a danger component, but it's still waaaay less toxic and harmful than actual smoke, so is a risk I gladly accept.

I am not sure which state you are in, but I have been recently seeing commercials of Jenny McCarthy in a lounge scene using blu e-cigs(which I think is owned by a tobacco company). I don't see how that is being marketed towards kids. In fact most kids may not even know who the hell she is(or her work).

yep your correct blu is owned by Lorillard Tobacco Company is an American tobacco company marketing cigarettes under the brand names Newport, Maverick, Old Gold, Kent, True, Satin, and Max.

Actually Blu was started by an entrepreneur and then Lorrillard bought him out for some obscene amount of money... like $135million or something like that. Now big tobacco is buying out a few more companies as well.

Not sure if it's good that big tobacco is buying these companies out or not.

I've seen those commercials as well, but only late at night, past 10pm I'd say?

big tobacco doesn't have to be evil... in fact big tobacco makes some damn good snus in Sweden.
Big Tobacco is not good news to the ecig industry. NJOY is trying to get flavored juices banned because their disposable ecigs (they suck btw, personal experience) don't used flavored juices. I was at the shop yesterday getting some juice with a sweet discount I had and there was an older guy, he looked to be about in his 60's, who was getting some watermelon bubblegum juice. And they argue that the candy flavors only appeal to children  I'm in my early 20's, not really considered a kid anymore, and I love candy juices when they're done right. I'm currently vaping Villain Vapors' Scoundrel, a 50/50 mix of cantaloupe and kiwi. If BT gets a hold on the industry they're going to be doing a lot of stuff that's going to make it a pain for hobbyists I think.

That doesn't sound too good. Then again if they ban most flavors what is there left, just tobacco, menthol and maybe wine/cognac(usually flavors I use to get in cigars)?
