Using Medical cannabis under the age of 18

I am just wondering There is research out there that indicates any amount of THC may harmful to anyone under the age of 25 because it affects their frontal lobe i.e changes to the frontal cortex. . Our doctor prescribed our 16 year old son only CBD strains with THC less than 1 percent. Its very hard to find those type of strains but what would be wrong with a strain that has 3 or 8 percent THC? He is at the point where he feels he would rather just get it from the street at higher THC content.

Son has ADHD, anxiety, and depression. He has been using street MJ for about a few months now and is improving academically at school and socially because he takes the sativas during the day and indicas at night.. But he is using various high THC strands.

The reason I sent him to the doctor was so that he does not get involved with street MJ where they might be putting something in his weed.

What are your thoughts?

That’s a very difficult subject to even give an opinion on...I’m always for avoiding medication when it’s not necessary, but having struggled with some of the same issues, I have to wonder if my life might have been improved by trying it when I was young. Despite the study (studies?) giving some reason for concern, there are a lot of people who get into it early and seem to turn out fine.

I know there are at least some doctors who believe it’s a suitable treatment for teenagers with these kinds of issues, and I don’t believe it’s nearly as bad as some of the alternative prescription drugs.

I think what I would do is look at the severity of the problems I was trying to address, look at the worst case potential outcome and decide which was worse. Of course also taking into account the potential and observed benefits.

If he does continue, I don’t know what medical laws are like where you are, but if a doctor can and will give him a recommendation, I’d get it legal and talk to the doctor about your concerns.

Disclaimer: I don’t have kids and I don’t recommend anyone do anything illegal.

Why not look into oils?
You can buy high %CBD and very low %THC, which would be perfect to start with.
Only a very small % of THC is required for them to work in synergy with each other.

Imo what your son is doing now will affect frontal lobe development by smoking such high %THC strains.

However the CBD oil will not get him high at all and it sounds like this may be a big part of it?

The Dr prescribed one component and he is not using it at all. The high %THC he is using now could cause more problems later in his development by not letting his brain fully develop.
I am all for protecting the children from themselves and ensuring they are in top condition by using the correct medication for their needs.

If you want to, look up Apothecary oils, available in Canada and they work very well.

Thats s good point. That is exactly what the doctor recommended is the oils which contain 20percent. But I was thinking to ask the doctor for at least a prescription of CBD strains that have very little THC like 3 to 8 percent. This way he is still able to get some THC out of it but medically would most likely be negligable.

The problem you are missing is that you will not find bud like he needs on the street. It has to be in an oil that he ca accurately dose from in order to see what helps the most.
I have Never come across a dealer that said "try this high BD bud" it's always "this one is hella strong".
Get him off the high THC strains as soon as possible.

o.k will do. I will get him the oils but only found medrelief offers less than 1 percent thc bud.

But what exactly does Thc do to the frontal lobe? Does it change its chemistry in that area. Or is it the fact that their brain has not wired yet and they need to learn to deal with their emotions without the help of weed. More of a frontal lobe learning curve .

Exactly! The frontal lobe is fully developed by ages 23 to 25 years of age.
Causing a chemical imbalance, which is what your son is doing, will result in it not developing at it's full potential and could affect him negatively later in life. He needs to figure out who he is naturally and without anything affecting and conflicting his emotional development and brain development.

My wife uses the Apothecary oils, the one i linked, and she does not ever get high off them.
Just natural pain relief and a lot calmer.
Some interesting information is that CBD also acts as an anti-depressant, so it is very wide acting when used correctly.
The linked one is 20:1 which is a perfect ratio for the synergy between the CBD and THC.
This ratio will work well for anxiety, depression and ADHD.

Take two doses at the same time each day, my wife does 8am and 2pm for max relief.
Do not take too late at night otherwise his sleep will be affected and hitting some Indica is NOT a good idea.

Recent published study said that brain changes in adolescents reverses after 72 hours of cessation of treatment.

However, given the restrictions by the Feds on research, I am VERY skeptical of any and all studies out there as you can find one to justify your desires almost no matter what they are! LOL

I'm not a Dr nor a cannabis researcher so I can offer no advise on your situation.

Best of luck.

A home gardens (indoors or outdoors) is a possible way to go. Easy and you always know what you are using. Good Luck

I cant stop to think if i ruined my frontal lobe development from early smoking, starting at age 14 on a daily basis. However no one had this kind of information back then, well some did i guess but it was not passed my way at least. started smoking in 2008

many years passed with combustion till i found vape in 2016

I smoked Cannabis from 11 years old til 19-20 years old... and other Stuff :ninja: :freak: :whoa:

somewhat faded but Always Lit!

the thing with cannabis and Kids, instead look into Omega threes and high fat diet ( Arachidonic acid ) first to increase endocannabinoid tone in the person. smoking is now a days last resort and Thank God for CBD access etc.... for Kids and smart approaches to dosing cleanly. Micro dose should be the first lesson learned with cannabis introduction. cannabimimetics too, they aid metabolism of cannabinoids... Whole Black peppercorn is a mimetic to THC and CBD.
