I play guitar and my friends groan when I start playing "In Spite of Ourselves" by John Prine. It is an "earworm" that keeps on giving.

Or they could hate it, I guess.

LOVE John Prine. Saw him with my husband back in the 70's in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was a really small, intimate venue. He was great.

These guys have the tendency to play right notes. The songs which coagulate around the noises that come from them seem to be old nightmare buddies with murder ballads and speakeasy jazz (from a purely uneducated point of view, that is). Their references and the inspiration drawn upon are vast: six musicians pulling in different directions, bringing to life an incredible tension.
