Tornado by Vestratto

I was just thinking how simple it’d be to make a Tornado to 8mm stem adapter. There’s no condenser any more, so it would be one small part needed. Male tornado connect on one end, some cooling fins perhaps and then the 8mm male connect. Just like that you can plug it into a Revolve stem or whatever with some wood to handle the heat.

I might ask around about getting something like that machined out of SS, shouldn’t be too hard or costly. Theoretically you could machine it out of a single piece of SS rod of the correct diameter

So I’ve sat and thought on this some more. You could take that exact same part, and on the 8mm end change it from a male connector to a female one that fits on the integrated stem connector. Both 8mm and Anvil adapters would be the same, except one has a male 8mm end and one a female Anvil end.

Two simple, single parts and both would unlock full stem compatibility with both the existing Anvil stems and the 8mm stem market.

Does anyone know of any good machinists in the UK? Especially ones that have already done SS work in our industry. I’d really like to speak to one and see if this is a worthwhile endeavour. Seems like quite a simple part to manufacture in theory

Or maybe @Vestratto themselves can run a few of the 8mm adapters and offer them as a cheap add on when purchasing a Tornado. I know they’re planning on doing a dedicated stem for the Tornado but 8mm compatibility would be a great in between option for the moment.

Wouldn't be surprised if we need to make something like this happen. John might try to force people to buy his stem, by not releasing an adaptor. He seemingly purposely designed the Tornado to not function properly with the existing one.

Well I’ve just emailed them with my idea and asked if it’s something they be interested in offering as a cheap extra at checkout or whatever. Fair enough if they want to build their own stem but at least give us 8mm compatibility while we wait!

If anyone else wants to take my idea and run with it please do. I don’t really have an ego wrapped up in this and just want to help the community (and myself) enjoy the tornado on a stem. I won’t ask for money from the sales or even credit for the idea, a tornado wouldn’t go amiss though ;)

If he tries to lock us into his stem, it better be good. I never got the hype about the Anvil stems. They were just DV stems with a heat shield. The Tornado will need more surely.

I quite liked the Anvil stem personally. It did take the integrated stem, XL mouthpiece and a wooden heat shield before I got to that point though. I also see why people disliked it, particularly the first gen with that airflow valve which would often wobble and get stuck.

I hope the Tornado stem offers some wood options, that would be awesome. Especially if they partnered with local artisans for that part

I'm sawing off the USA adapter to fit the Tornado. I still had an OG stem and that works fine. I like the Vestratto stems because they work so well on glass.

Re: rotating the Tornado while heating and/or heating all over the oven as opposed to one spot… I messed around with these techniques a bit and I don’t notice much of a difference personally. Below is the AVB I just got from my usual technique which is a relatively low single flame on the popular Ronxs/Cadrim torch pointed at the middle of the oven and stopping at the first click. Seems pretty even to me? Very tasty at this level of roast too IMO.

Has anyone tried one of these with their Tornado to see if it fits?

It’s the same size male connector as the integrated stem so it shouldn’t work unfortunately. You’d have to hacksaw off a few MM to make it fit flush, just like the integrated stem.

If you ask them, perhaps @batteryfreeganz can offer a second option with a shorter, tornado compatible connection

@PrematureEvaporation Hey, I'm a UK maker who works in metal with plans to produce an adapter to allow the Tornado to be used with 8mm and 9mm stems. Currently, I'm waiting on my Tornado so I can be sure of getting the fit right but any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
What a great newz. Your cooling stands are awesome (i have 3 of them now : Tempest-Anvil/TA3-Tornado/Fusion)

Do you have any kind of estimate to when this might happen? I'm not buying the Tornado until I know there will be some kind of stem solution.

Well, like I said, I'm waiting on the arrival of a Tornado myself but I've not yet received notification of dispatch but hopefully it won't be too long. When I know, I'll post an update here.

That is fantastic news. I’m so happy to see a member of the community (and fellow Brit!) stepping up to fill this gap in the market.

Well, looks like I’d better start saving up for my tornado now, VAS is fully activated and firing on all cylinders ;)

I had been thinking of getting the Tornado but no stem was not motivating enough. This is good news. Will the adapter work for the Tornado only? I think we need something to tackle the the conflicting two standards of stems for these devices that are becoming increasingly popular. Not sure though if a universal adapter can be made?

Yep! Convection is nice and tasty but often more work to coax vapor from the flower. You need long, slow pulls to maximize the time in contact with hot air.
Are there vaporizers out there that have a "flow" meter? Wouldn't this mechanical solution solve a lot of the problems with vapor production, assuming the other necessary conditions are ideal?

The Venty has something like that. But it lacks power, so still produces whispy clouds that lack potency.

Yeah I think the recent batch of modern vapes have some type of flow sensing tech. The Solo3 also has this and ramps up the heater to match the cooling effect your draw has to maintain your desired temperature. In the S3 at least I find it works very well. The harder you pull, the more vapor you'll get as the heater is agile enough to keep up.

If I can help speed up your design by providing specific dimensions/measurements of the Tornado feel free to reach out. Glad to help.

I recall some people in this thread who have a Tornado and a Tempest. Would any of you be so kind as to tell me how they compare with airflow/restriction? Using both in WPA mode?

You can PM me, as it will be off topic for this thread. I have a jaw disorder, so I can't use vapes that have too much restriction. So any feedback would be really appreciated.

This would be a great thread. Or just a how does the tornado compare? thread to add other devices.
