I still need to read the dissenting views as I simply can't comprehend anyone ruling against gay marriage on constitutional grounds (let's not even speak about simple humane practices), but I am thrilled to say the least! This is just a step though, there is still a lot more work to be done to mitigate and eliminate the fear and hate that's out there.

The dissents will make you feel insane. Scalia in particular seems to be frothing at the mouth. On the upside, somebody already created a meme generator with crazy bits.

Symbols. As an old hippie I miss the rainbow, maybe we can share it now. It seems that we are going even further with the confederate flag than germany went with the swastika, where it's only legal to display in historical accounts. We seem to want to remove the confederate flag from the entirety of history itself; while that's admirable it's not accurate. And obviously other countries are continuing to sell swastika items, including ours. So even though we are now willing censor our own history, nobody else will. Rainbow power!

I was raised Catholic in the '70s and this whole chain of events really blows my mind in a rare positive "I love America" moment. Sucks the decision was 5-4 instead of 9-0, but as Alan Watts once said, "how would you know rocks were hard if you didn't have soft skin?"

Justice Scalia dissented calling gay marriage a "threat to democracy".....is this guy fucking serious? This is the same guy that voted to stop the recount in Bush v Gore (2000) which quite literally undermined the democratic process. He also voted in favor of Citizens United, so in his mind allowing coporate interests to donate millions of dollars to Super PACs and allowing them to influence policy through bribery......i mean "lobbying" doesn't pose a "threat to democracy" but gay marriage does. So not counting ballots and allowing people to buy elections and policy outcomes doesn't threaten democracy but gay marriage does? By the way, the Citizen's United ruling resulted in a statistically significant increase in Republican donations and percentage pf seats won in the next election....shcoker. All the conservatives justices are huge douchebags, particularly Justices Scalia and Thomas. Justice Roberts wrote by far the most respectful and well reasoned dissenting opinion.

You know, some of us tend to lean toward the conservative side, and still think this is a wonderful thing  been a long time coming and happy for my LGB friends (I don't know anyone who is trans, but I am happy for them too)
