Besides, if you're gonna dream, why not dream big? That's how we got to the moon

this may be my most favorite post of all time.

Chuck Yeager's name came up on the telly last night and, as usual, i went on and on (with gf) about the US moon shot ... but she's tired of hearing me prattle about that bit of history so many times. it's just that I am still in awe of what it took to pull that off. deep pockets for sure.

i like to dream big, too ... i dream of free electric at my crib (do peeps even say that word anymore?)

I thought we got to the moon by copying the russians, and importing nazi rocket scientists ;)

Ya know what else is mind-boggling regarding going to the moon? Compare the computer power it took to get us there versus the computing power in the things we use today.

Yup! Our cellphones are literally more sophisticated than the system that was used by NASA to successfully land on the moon and return home. Crazy stuff.

re: Chuck Yeager ... the first man to survive breaking the sound barrier ... the answer when the question is asked (usually by women) about why men do stupid things.

America went from breaking the sound barrier to walking on the moon in less than 9 years for less than 0.1% of the GNP.

And that accomplishment directly lead to all the technology that engulfs the world.

So yes, little grasshopper, dream big. Also, have some really deep pockets and hire maybe 100,000 engineers (give or take).

Now, i'm really dreaming of free electric at my crib. And i've got about $80 in my wallet. i can hardly wait.

That's some Dream there Hippie Dickie,
Oddly enough it's not really legal where i live to produce and use your own electricity. I have a friend who built a little A-frame cabin on a river here who had to pay a $5000 fine for not being hooked up to the power companies line. In essence and truth your not allowed to run your home off of solar power or a generator without buying a percentage of the power you use from a monopoly like Duke energy corp.

Pretty fucked up if you ask me ... but nobody bothered to asked.
