Tips for vaping again after a break?

Hi everybody!

Well, due to business traveling circumstances, I’ve done a 14 days break (tomorrow it is!)

To be honest, I think I was using “too much” for my own references and weed kind of lost great part of his magic to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I have had ZERO issues not vaping for two weeks. Not the minimum sign, no craving, no withdrawal symptoms at all….

I was using almost everyday, even twice a day. Not too much, mostly one 0.25g bowl in my Mighty per session.

Maybe you think is not too much…. But using almost daily made weed boring for me.

When I started vaping 7 years ago, I used to vape only on saturday nights. It was, of course, amazing, since it was my first times doing it, and I got real psychedelics highs. Bad thing, I couldn’t function at all since my tolerance was almost unnoticeable, and a bowl made me really high. From that, I started to vape friday and saturday nights, which was still cool and, though highs weren’t the same as the first times, they were still very good.

From that, I started vaping couple days more and ended up vaping almost everyday. And lately, I felt that weed wasn’t doing what Inreally loved at first. You know, it ain’t a larty if it happens everyday.

Since I think I’ve had a good break, I wan’t to start a good weed habit, vaping maybe 2/3 days a week, 4 maximum, leaving at least one or two days between sessions. 0.25/0.30g per session probably.

Any tips or tricks to keep a good relationship with cannabis, keeping tolerance low, making it special and getting good highs without overusing?

Thanks in advance!

I think you answered your own question….
Your new approach sounds smart as you’ve learned what’s best for your mind and body.
I mostly use to relieve pain along with meds. But I rotate what I use to avoid the tolerance build up. The best part is after 2-3 days or more of not vaping, the end results are much more effective.

Seems you have a logical plan, others can perhaps add specific tips, but I wish you the BEST!

When I stopped for a couple months, starting back was really hard. The effects totally changed, and I would get extreme anxiety when I vaped. I knew I had two options - power through it until I had built up enough tolerance again, or keep my usage very light- so light that the anxiety is manageable.

I chose the latter, since I knew my responsibilities were increasing, and I didn't want to be forced to maintain a habit just to avoid issues.

Now I take one tiny hit once a day. The benefit is that I can stop for days without any challenges, and I can pass a DT soon after stopping, in the event I make a career change. The downside is weed becomes a lot less fun- especially if you enjoy testing new vapes or sampling different strains.

To your point about "losing the magic" in many ways I feel my current usage has killed some of the magic despite getting way stronger effects. I enjoyed how weed used to knock me out, the satisfaction it gave me, and I enjoyed the hobby aspect. Now it's a lot less satisfying and more intoxicating.

I think keeping your usage down to <1x/day, and starting off with a very small dose, to figure out the minimum dose required to get the effects that you desire, will help you keep your tolerance low, and your enjoyment level pretty high. Also, taking frequent, multi-day breaks, should help a lot, as well.

I'd also make note of your overall mood and health, now, before you start up again, and then every few weeks, while you are in a period of consumption (not necessarily while you are high), so that you can be aware of your habit's effects on your life.

Agree with Rusty, in that you are in process of answering the question for yourself. We each may have wildly different tolerances, needs, etc.

You mentioned that early on, once-a- week vaping was strong effect, somewhat overwhelming, and it seems that with more regular use it was managable - up to a point.
So, you need to find a balance for yourself. It doesn't sound like will power is so much an issue for you?

Agree, that’s my plan, only one session per day and leave at least one day or two between sessions.

About mood and health, sincerely, since I didn’t vape that much, it doesn’t effect me beyond the psychological craving when I have nothing to do. I also run 2/3 times a week and workout. Keeping myself busy is one of the things that will keep me away from frequent and useless vaping out of boredom.

I liked the highs when I vaped once a week…I like to get as high as possible, to introspect, write, play music…..but it was impossible to do any chores or even watch tv after a session, I would be couch locked and sleepy.

Not a problem if I vape late at night anyway, as In
used to do. I don’t want to be impaired, I don’t need to vape and do things after vaping, guess I can do it at the right time to get blasted and enjoy the high with nothing else to do than going to bed or have a nice dinner with my wife.

It kinda will make weed ceremonial again, which is also part of the trick 😜

You can try doing a lighter session if you need to be active. Stay on lower temps, be moderate with use.
See if Indica v Sativa makes any qualitative difference...?

That was my sweet spot too….

Gonna try 3 times a week and try to reduce to 2 eventually.
After a long T-break you should try experimenting with vaporizing sativa's exclusively on low temperatures (max 158°C).

Although i don't recommend vaping on a weekly basis i'd say try to gradually build it up to only once per month and even once per x month.

Ultimately this will help you build a healthier relationship with cannabis and it will also provide a much better effect leaving you more satisfied.

Found this dormant thread interesting. Recently had covid for the first time. Found myself dealing with post-covid issues and ended up going cold turkey for 4-5 weeks. Finally seem to be "out of the woods".

Have over-enjoyed fine cannabis for years before this. I really like cannabis and I was usually satisfied with 15-20 hits per day. So far I'm using this restart to keep the enjoyment level down to 3-4 hits per week.

I've learned a couple of things about myself throughout this process. I've always suspected less is more, but this proves the theory to me. All health benefits aside, there's something special about the transition from almost none in your system to stoned from one hit. Also, I don't have the willpower to have slowed to this level without a forced cold turkey.

Agree here. I feel like forced periods of non-use such as during vacations have shown me that less really is more. From experience, I've discovered that when returning to cannabis use, I have to ease myself into a routine with very small amounts otherwise I risk anxiety from being too high. It is possible to stay at levels of very light use but for myself, it's also not too difficult to lapse back into using larger amounts.

I've gone through periods where I'm using as little as 0.1g/day whereas for a long time I had been using around 0.5g/day. One thing I have discovered about myself is that cannabis tends to amplify my state of mind - whatever that is at the time. So if I'm feeling well and in a good mood, cannabis use is quite enjoyable.

On the flip side, if I'm not in a great state of mind, I have to either abstain or use very little otherwise I find myself susceptible to invasive negative thoughts that are unpleasant. I kind of like having this mechanism though since it largely prevents me from using cannabis to escape my feelings, and possibly abusing its use.

Totally agree that it can make a bad mood worse - I want to be lifted and enhancing my experience, not sedated and withdrawn! The plant will definitely let you know if you're overindulging with mood swings and anxiety
