Or one jar, boveda and individual paper bags or envelopes.

The paper would settle down to the same level as the contents.

I seem to remember seeing the Greenhouse Seed people using paper bags to cure in.

Thanks @JoeKickass ! Many of my 1/8th's come in those professionally, so I can just let them be! Just need to get the cooljarz for the 1g sizes, although i've read that they are only good for a couple of weeks in there, and not longer term. Maybe i'll pick up some of these mylar bags! Thanks for your post!!

Several years ago I got 25 of the 1.5 oz jars for about $12. They are perfect for 1-2 gms but can hold 3.5 if you squish it all in tightly. The lids are tight and I keep them stored in darkness in a closet.

Thanks for your feedback!!!! The amber ones look quite nice. and they even have .85oz which i assume would be great for a gram or so?

So shipping makes all these glass jars not viable. Since I typically buy 1/8th's as a minimum size i'm sticking with the small mason jars. I can usually fit 1/4oz in them but with a Boveda pack I don't think that the extra air space will matter too much. It's not like i'll be storing them for more than 6 months.

For the gram strains, i've decided to just stick with the mylar ziplock baggies.

Pop in an Oxy pack and it will absorb that little bit or oxygen in the jar. For me, an eighth along with a bodeva pack and an oxygen pack, there is not much room left. Cheap, easy, available everywhere.

@Squiby what sized o2 absorber packs do you use in the smallest mason jars with the 1/8ths? I figure it might be worth it to put a tiny one in the mylar as well with the gram?

Any negatives to using the o2 absorbers? Doesn't draw anything out of the herb or anything?

Just read this:

Don't use them. For one thing anaerobic bacteria are one cause of 'spoiled' weed, and absorbing all of the oxygen in the jar just helps them along.

It will keep just fine for a long long time if properly cured and stored.

I use the 100 cc size. They're the size of a large postage stamp and one is good for a jar up to a quart. The smaller the container (or the less air space) the longer they last. If you use them in the Mylar bags you can gently squeeze out excess oxygen before sealing. When they get hard, they are spent and need to be replaced.

Interesting comment about anaerobic bacteria. First they tell us oxygen along with light and heat in bad, then they say that no oxygen is bad....

Anyway, I have used oxygen packs and vacuum sealing for all sorts of herbs and dehydrated foods and have never had an issue. Some of my bud is years old with no evidence of deterioration. If you are a prepper and have a food stash in long term storage, vacuum packing or removing oxygen is the first line of defense when storing edibles long term. Long term = a decade or more and up to 30 years, some claim. Mylar bags is another. It is from reading about extreme long term food storage that I came to vacuum seal my dried herb but now there are articles that voice the same opinions regarding weed specifically. I mean it's a dried plant just like dried onions or tomatoes.....

Thank you for that, and good morning early bird! I had no idea that the o2 packs get hard when spent, that's a nice to be able to tell. I know what you mean, there is information for everything out there, but overall the vast majority i've read indicated that o2 packs are the way to go as well. That was just something i've read and wanted to post it for consideration. My storage will not be very long term, so i'll probably be ok with just a boveda and the o2 pack, without vacuum sealing. I wish I didn't sell my foodsaver sealer! I remember sealing oz's with it and it looked so cool without any air, and didn't really squish the buds. But other than your one link, I haven't seen this mentioned much as a good method.

Yeah, I'm surprised that vacuum sealing isn't discussed more. As I said, I use this method for all kinds of stuff. I grow lots of different herbs and veggies and I dehydrate it and vacuum pack it. It's cheaper and easier than freezing or traditional canning and the end product takes up less room. I don't freezer that much as our power goes out regularly so ok don't feel like I can count on it.

The oxy packs have a fine sand like interior. They will absorb oxygen from the Mylar bag initially and every time you open and seal the bag. Once they have reached capacity they become rock hard and need to be replaced with a fresh soft pack. They are not reusable in any way.

I throw the oxy packs in all my vacuum sealed mason jars as a back up fail safe. Again, this method was learned from prepper info. I'm not a,"prepper" but I live in a fairly isolated rural area and I like to have a stockpile of essentials. They come in handy during an ice storm or when I'm snowed in or when the road is washed out. I have enough food and bud to last me a good long time as long as I have water to dehydrate the various food stuffs and wood to burn for heat and cooking.

I also have a stockpile of a couple dozen butane cans to keep my lighters full for my precious Vapcaps warm and me happy!!! :brow:
