Abysmal Vapor

Similar tech to vape lifter by black leaf and the vapolution pocket vape :)).. Once i was hospitalized because i neglected a bad cat scratch..(CSD) and i didnt want to expose any of my vapes to the infections lurking around that place.. and for a week i was vaping by just loading a 14mm male gong with herb and heating it with a torch.. taste wasnt bad at all :)) .. This kind of experiences have lead me to the conclusions that vaporization is not a matter of having enough money for a vape.. but rather a choice.. ,cause many people where i live cant afford having one,and think that people that invest on that are fools and thats money better spent on herb.

Hey now. Y'all can see the Herbalizer in my video. You can't see the Volcano, Mighty, or others.

Yeah I love this kind of vaping. Incredibly affordable, effective, and available. It's my go to suggestion to people who are scared of investing in a real vape.

It does have its drawbacks though. Glass is an insulator so it takes more butane to heat up than something like a TI vapcap or lotus, so your overall cost of butane over time goes up. It also can be trickier/less satisfying to use than vapes like the lotus that give you constant feedback as you take your hit. This thing takes some trial and error when it comes to timing.

But hey, it's cheap, it works, and it works well. The more people who know about it the better.

At first I thought this guy was just using an OG vapcap with no cap lol! Then all of a sudden I find myself thinking: 'Whoa, is that aluminum foil he's sticking into the hot glass and inhaling off of'?

That shit is not safe. Aluminum leaches and outgasses when heated and hot aluminum with hot hydrocarbon (ie: Cannabis resin) vapors right beneath it is a prime situation for outgassing/leaching of aluminum into vapor. Alzheimer's Disease and other ailments have been linked to cumulative exposure to aluminum. Don't inhale off of hot aluminum foil ever.

To illustrate my thoughts on how unsafe inhaling off of aluminum is, I would actually recommend traditional combustion before I would recommend that someone vapes using aluminum foil.

Protip: You could simply stuff the end of the pipe with stainless steel wool instead to achieve the same result in a safer way.

The fact that glass is an insulator means it has thermal mass. (Or something like that.) Which is what makes it possible for me to get multiple potent hits with each heating cycle. Yeah, I've gone through a lot of butane lately. Haven't had to buy any more yet. The more I do this, the more I learn about it. It's kind of like figuring out where you like your Volcano dial or SSV dial. It's not just cheap and functional; this is better than any vape I've used.

The foil doesn't even get too hot to touch. Also, this was an experiment in simplicity. The real danger is that the end I'm sucking on is broken. But I appreciate the steel wool tip.

Yeah the aluminum foil made me cringe a little too but simply using it to suppress the cool air intake isn't going to heat it up to dangerous levels IMO, but I still wouldn't use it personally. It's not the same as the kids I remember in high school smoking out of a pipe they crafted out of foil, yikes that was nasty and dangerous.

Recap: I used a screened glass tube (Underdog stem) and fire to make an excellent nearly-on-demand, mostly-glass, mostly-convection vape.

In its normal life the glass tube fits around the cylindrical part of an Underdog which I guess may be called the heat port. In my video the one obvious flaw is that I used a wad of aluminum foil to control the quantity of air entering the vapor path, where there is a lot of heat.

Update: No more foil. Instead I use a stainless steel Underdog stem to control the air intake. Which fits inside the heat port cylinder on an Underdog, thus fits inside the glass Underdog stem fairly tightly but loose enough for some air to get through. I just have to block the stainless steel stem to keep air from going through it. It's not ideal (because of its length), but it's safer than aluminum foil.

Might give this a try with my thick direct draw stem, but I might just use the glass end of the LSV stirring tool as the stopper though, although your use of the stainless steel stem is interesting. I used to do this but with a narrow hose to 14mm glass adapter and a screen inserted in a 14-18mm lowpro. Would function as an old school vapocane.

I just placed an order for five glass tubes I suspect may be identical to the Underdog stem I've been using (not the one in the video); sans screen, of course. $8.99. The stem I've been using the last couple days has thicker glass than the one I used in the video. My guess is that the thin stem has 1 mm thick glass and the thick stem has 2 mm thick glass.

I think I like the thick stem better than I like the thin stem. The thick stem gives me a little more protection from accidental combustion, plus it holds heat longer.

I almost certainly heat the stem enough to combust almost every time I use it, but I have a couple tricks that seem to help me avoid combustion. First I plug the stem's hot end pretty quickly after heating, which stops air flow inside the tube. (Combustion requires oxygen.) Then I usually don't hit the stem for several seconds after plugging it.

Another way of using a glass stem/tube vape would be to plug the stem before heating, as I did during my second heating cycle in the video. I stopped doing that because of the potential health hazards of heating and inhaling aluminum. However, I have gone back to using foil to plug the tube (after heating) because the SS stem was too difficult for my clumsy hands. I'll figure out something better soon enough. (I have already figured out plenty of better things, but for now I'm doing this with household items.)

EDIT: I think the best plug might be a 2 mm thick glass lid/cap that slides onto the hot end of the glass immediately after heating; maybe 1-1/2" long. Not only would it control the air flow but it would also insulate the hot glass, thus decreasing heat loss and protecting fingers. By forcing air to contact the hot glass twice as air follows its path, this would kind of recycle the heat, or use the heat very efficiently. It would also make the air path entirely glass (excluding the screen).

EDIT: I have since tried hitting while torching, from a cold start. Works. Probably even better. The heat of the vapor entering my mouth kind of tells me when to kill the flame. Then I can take at least a few hits using heat stored in the glass. Totally on-demand.

This thing makes tiny loads (.03 g) feel like big loads. In a hurry. Effortlessly.

Wish I could do this, but I would almost certainly burn or cut myself.

I have exactly the same concern... I wouldn't use tin foil by any means.

A 16mm borosilicate test tube would be a nice 'cap', then only torch the outer test tube(even better heat retention 4-5 draws) and u have got a 70% vaponic clone (reverse flow effect). Have built some myself works pretty good and very cheap (under 1$ :) ), but still searching for a perfect cheap and easy solution to hold the test tube in place (eg cork or matches work)...
Still the vaponic is much smoother in comparison bc there is a tiny bypass to the small end glass mouthpiece to mix fresh air with vapor...
The diy version ain't bad and really tasty, but the vaponic is only 35$ has superior taste and comes with a nice totally inconspicuous case.
Btw a good heating indicator for playing with such glass vapes is the flame turns yellow/orange on the glass at a certain heat, that's mostly on the highest edge before combustion -either let it cool down a bit, or get it in the feeling to stop before. Starting slow with low temps is much more tastier - a perfect vaponic session starts with vapor coming after the 3. draw of the first heating cycle, it takes a bit time and airflow to get the heat spread out... draw speed is another factor

I just figured out what should be a good Vaponic clone: Start with a lightbulb vape, but instead of a pen use a glass tube with a basket screen in it. Then instead of putting your medicine in the bulb, put it in the screen. Air intake can come from a few small holes near the socket.

What did I overlook?

(This is for crack, of course.)

Since making that video I have done this a whole bunch of different ways. Which has given me a lot of insights that probably aren't possible with other vapes. For example, I accidentally combust sometimes. When that happens, I can see it right away and stop inhaling. When I do that, the combustion stops. There ends up being a slightly smoky taste, but it turns out that tiny combustion events really aren't a big deal. (When you combust one fine ground, that's not much combustion.)

There ends up being a large build-up of resin on the mouthpiece end of the tube. Whenever it gets pretty heavy, I'll flip the tube around and vape the resin. This also functions as cleaning.

Even when I do it the way I did it in the video, I'm not worried about the foil. I'd like to find something that works better than foil, but the foil is not an issue. The foil does not get very hot.

I'm still not convinced this is not the best vape I've ever used. I don't use my others much anymore.

I think I figured something out: Underdog GonG stem (or any glass stem with male joint) + female joint with a few inches of glass tubing. You just put a screen in the male end of the stem and use the female joint to cover the heated male joint. Then a finger could be used as a substitute for foil. The female joint piece would never get very hot, plus it would provide a shield of thermal protection from the hot male joint.
