Discontinued The Sublimator

Put in bubble hash or dry sift for significant sublimate oil production. I am still having to clean my screens about every 24 to 36 hours, but I do lots of doible deckers and hash bowls. Stock screen high, ultra fine low for clean sublimate oil.

I cant be too scientific as I dont have the killa wat meter device, but i have my sub (adapt a bong) marked off with a sharpie mark on the dial that I set beside the same mark on the side of the box where to dial is. this is great for herbs yeah. but for oil I turn it up about 2 marker widths up. this would work out to about a 1/8th to 1/4 turn up on the dial. I know the dial works on a logarithmic scale, a small adjustment makes a big difference!

40 watts is good, I've had good results with sublimate down to about 38 watts.

I'm currently using 32 watts for herb on the kaw, but as has been pointed out there is slight variation according to atmospheric conditions, so so I find that a reference mark on the dial is useful as well.

At 42 watts is perfect for oils but it depends on the weather of your environment. If it is in a cold condition I find 37-42 watts good especially in air-conditioned rooms. I usually use 40 watts for 'snappers' but even if it is meant for one pull I can get about two rips and taste isn't popcorny unless you hit it long enough on the second hit. I watch Enrico in his videos and followed his technique so assuming I am doing it correctly. @grokit you are right man 32 is perfect. You get greens still and I say with really sticky herbs it should go for about 3-4 rips. It seems crazy to say but I don't like to choke often so I tend to take my time with the bowl by inhaling less and ultimately savoring the flavors :p

My hose seems to be losing its stiffness.
Get yer minds out of the gutter :mental:

Seriously, looks like sub.ca has replacements available but I don't really need anything else. I have looked at acrylic and pvc and silicone tubing on ebay/amazon till my eyes crossed. I think I'll jut hit the local hardware store to see what they have that I can cut to size, it looks like it's 1/8" id. Options besides hose material are things like temperature tolerance and food safe/medical grades. I think that what I care about is stiff but supple more than anything since the temps aren't that great, I won't have it in my mouth, and will not be drinking liquid through it. As if that makes any sense.

Thoughts  ?

Edit: hmm.. didn't have to buy anything, already had the perfect hose laying around from another project:tup: Sill, wondering what others think/if it matters.

heres a bit of a review after a couple of weeks of apollo use;

pros;
1. its a beast - the hardest hitting vape i have ever tried, (and i have experimented with about 15 vapes)!

2. temp stability is unmatched.

3. ability to do double deckers is also unmatched.

4. the amount of reclaim that is produced and the ability to catch the reclaim without solvents, is unmatched.

5. the ability to overide the timer is such a bonus, and the fact that its durable enough to run for extended periods of time, is also unmatched.

cons
1. the time that it takes to heat up, and to adjust temp is significant compared to most other vapes.

2. the stock screen is not effective at preventing stuff from getting into the reclaim part of the atomizer, and/or your WT.

3. the stand should be designed to hold both the atomizer and the apollo at the same time in a vertical position. there should also be a holder for a reclaim jar for the atomizer to drip into.

4. taking the atomizer apart to clean it is very difficult.

obviously, most of the cons can be worked around - over ride the timer, put in a different or multiple screens, buy an aftermarket reclaim glass adaptor or buy the base launcher tube.

but taking apart the atomizer is a major issue. firstly, why is it two pieces in the first place? is it just so they can assemble the handle easily? i think a solid one piece machined atomizer with a welded on handle would be much better. then you wouldn't HAVE to take it apart to clean it. and it would eliminate the tendency for the threads to come loose during the heating and cooling cycles.

secondly, if the atomizer is supposed to come apart, then it should be designed to make it easier to do so! put some flat edges on the tube, and the bowl part, so that you can put a wrench or pliers on it and be able to apply the necessary torque in order to separate the atomizer parts.

as it is, i now have a scratched up atomizer to do my numerous attempts to separate the parts of it.

overall, i love this vape, i have shunned all my other vapes since its arrival. however, i recently got a new vape that may topple the apollo off of its number 1 spot...

a reducer is a great idea, but i didn't have one at the time. so i was using a 14mm downstem - worked good for catching sublimate! but it was always stuck on when it was hot.

i did buy a reducer to get around that problem but i also bought the PV sublimate reclaim adaptor! yay! but i still have the same problem - the atomizer gets stuck when hot.

gee, if only the stand could hold both the apollo and the atomizer at the same time! then i could heat them up together without them being in my glass and i'd be able to separate the atomizer for cleaning!! it would also keep the atomizer temp stable so you could transfer it between WT's without it getting stuck in the WT's joint.

i realize that you are trying to help me out cheesesandwhich but what you are suggesting just isn't practical in my case. thats why i suggested some design changes for the atomizer in my review.

I find when there is some sublimate oil on the Teflon fitting and glass joint the atomizer will not get stuck as much. When I clean the teflon and glass joint, the atomizer sits slightly lower and will get stuck.

Or you could just, oh I don't know, here's a crazy idea, I'll just throw it out there: let your Sub heat up lying on a heat-proof surface.

You can probably get a large enough casserole dish at any grocery store to use as your Sub base of operations.

notmyrealusername you could probably find a small cheap vase that could be used to hold the atomizer and apollo together. Maybe even a beer bottle?

I need to order new screens and tubing. If I remember correctly the tubing is 1/8". I'm not around my launch tube so could anyone verify that? Has anyone found a store within the US that would be easier to order this kind of stuff from than PV?

Build-a-Sub Spreadsheet Beta 2!

This spreadsheet will allow you to choose exactly which Sublimator parts you're looking to buy and propose the proper kit(s) to maximize your savings.

Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0At23tgkyGfnRdEZYdjk0c0VVcUx5T3NhY1NtOXAwY0E&usp=sharing

Please remember to be respectful of other people and not trash the unlocked cells.

Whats new?
  • Hopefully the output statement will be grammatically correct in every possible instance. If you notice any combinations that add any extra words or punctuation that doesn't belong to the output please let me know.
  • No longer allow users to create obscene combinations without getting a warning.
Known Issues:
  • You won't receive a warning if you create a kit with a heating element but without an Atomizer. In some cases it will be less expensive than the pre-made kits which include an Atomizer. In those instances, you won't be prompted to purchase one. Remember, you NEED an Atomizer for the Sublimator to work.
  • If you don't choose a UFO but get one included for free (part of the promo) its value won't be calculated into your total savings.

Spreadsheet updates! This spreadsheet will allow you to choose exactly which Sublimator parts you're looking to buy and propose the proper kit(s) to maximize your savings.

Still in Beta 2, but now with more updates! Play around with it and feel free to reach out to me with any issues. Math should all be correct, grammar should be correct as well, I still find grammatical aberrations from time to time though.

You're mistaking me for notmyrealUSERname - I own a ufo set, not an apollo. If I wanted to warm up my atomizer, I'd use my propane torch or a chef's torch or my gas stovetop, quick and easy, no problem at all.

For screens, I'm using Vapir NO2 screens, they fit perfectly and don't move or fall out, can buy them 20 for abt $15 on Amazon or ebay.
