While I wait for my Splinter to arrive, I have some noob questions. And I admit I have zero experience using stems and baskets like those used in the Splinter.

So my questions relate to the best way to load.

I watched Sneaky Pete’s video and saw how he loaded the basket just using it as a scoop. He then lightly tamped it down and inserted the basket into the stem. Then he cut away...

So, is that the consensus best method for filling the basket?

And more importantly (for me), from there, how do you insert the stem into the Splinter? Do you leave the loaded stem pointed up and invert the Splinter or turn the stem over to insert into the Splinter? If you use the 2nd method, should the Splinter already be screwed into the box mod?

Obvious questions, I know. But like I said, I’m a noob...

You can also use the stem with basket inserted as a straw and suck the material into the stem. This is the method I most often use and it works well.

As for insertion, I usually invert the mod with the Splinter screwed in and lower it onto the stem, then turn it right side up.

@Mr. Me2 I use the same approach as @jbm: fill the basket with the straw method and put the Splinter on top of it after a light tamp.

Has anyone tried putting some glass beads into the regular stem for extra cooling? Or stainless steel beads? And cover it with some screen from above of course. I definitelly want to enhance the cooling with my z(it should arive by tomorrow/friday, so i have the whole weekend to play) and those cooling stems wont arrive anytime soon i think.

That link goes to a page that says out of stock... Do you expect these to come back ?
Sorry, hadn't noticed that.
Hey @DDave will there be new stock of Ultimate Cooling Unit coming soon?
EDIT;
Sorry DDave, I just read on the DDave website that you expect to be back up and running in 1-2 weeks' time. Best of luck.

Just tried it. Initial impression, it seems to tame the harshness down, the throat itch isn't as bad. But it feels like a subtle change so ill have to test some more. Thanks for the idea, had some beads in my dynavap stem so it was a pretty easy thing to throw together.

If you go to the home page you'll see the store is temporary closed for some legal issues with the shipper. But it should be back up soon (hopefully).

nice, what kind of upper screen have you used? thanks for testing it out. maybe some other material that glass would cool it down even more, i will try some stainless steel bearings as i receive mine splinter. the only downside of using steel is that if i drop that stem with the steel inside it would impact on the floor much harder and the chances of survival will be much lower. do you have the xl8r or some other cooling stem to compare it with?

i also wondered if it would be able to put a silicon whip on the stem and regular 18/14 wpa on the other end to use with a bong.

Seems like a great thing to try with the rbt tapered stem. Get the right sized beads, and maybe no screen needed?

You can search on youtube for 'rx gen3 dual' and they'll probably show how to run wattage mod
Or just search on google rx gen3 dual manual

Preheat not needed

Should just be able to screw it on, load batteries, and go. I think power mode with wattage should be default, but the manual should lay out how to change it if not. (you can also change the shut off from 10 to 15 seconds holding down power and up buttons I believe to access secret menu). There really shouldn't be anything else you have to set up on the mod, just load full basket tamped and start at 30 watts drawing steady inhale slow at first then faster as you go...

Soooooo...where to start?

I have to start with a HUGE thanks to @bossman! He was and is unbelievable! He literally held my hand through a complete setup with Arctic Fox. THANK YOU!

I’ve never had a vape like this. So many pieces to acclimate to.

But once I got my mod set up (and I’ll be forever indebted to @bossman. Did I say he’s the best?), everything clean and loaded (thanks to the great advice here), I was ready to go for a test drive.

My first pull was not impressive, but did taste nice. I quickly learned to slow my draw speed way down. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! This is gonna be fun falling in love.

I started with the standard mouthpiece. Especially with a slow draw (which was quite long), I didn’t find it even warm. I’m not sure I’m even gonna need a cooling stem. But I can see building various collections including stems.

I’m guessing I’ll need extra baskets, right? If so, does everyone get them from rbt, and if not, where?

I think I’m in trouble now...

Would it be possible for you to write step by step instructions? Did you do it on mac or on a pc? I have my splinter and wismec in mail, picking it up later today, so this exact process is ahead of me.

Great news, I was concerned as to whether you were going ascend that learning curve. Worth the trip, no?
For me, screens have just tended to accumulate; they last a long time, especially if only flower in them.
New stems usually come with 3 screens. Check out the tapered mouthpiece stem (smoked glass!) as a way to get a nice inexpensive ($8) upgrade, it's almost like buying 3 screens! or the 5-4-5 special looks like a nice variety pack, though idk how many screens may come with it.

enjoy your new friend!
