The Zion is regulated with a temprature knob that controls the heat.
The milaana's heat is determined by how much battery is left in the unit and how long you have the battery engaged...hope that makes sense?
I think it makes sense. So if you have a fully charged battery the temperature is likely to be pretty hot? Is that accurate? If I wanted lower heat, I would use a battery that's not totally charged?

@little maggie
To expand on what WnV said...
The Milaana will shoot to a pre-determined temperature (voltage?) that RBT set, but is open loop and will continue to rise in temp once that peak is reached. This allows the heater to keep up with the pull of the user, or let it climb for concentrates. It's considered unregulated just because you cannot control the amount of power set to it with a dial.
Correct me if I'm wrong?

Edit: If you wanted lower heat, you would tap the trigger, known as "feathering". A battery with half it's life will still be able to get to the same temp as a fully charged one for the most part, it just takes longer...and probably won't climb as high, but I'm not sure about that...but from what I've read it'll still reach it's determined temp.

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
Also unregulated because there is no protection for over discharging the battery, if you want or need you can completely empty a battery and this is no good for the battery I think. @Shit Snacks wrote that you will know when is time to change the battery by the amount of time needed to heat.

Yup everyone covered fairly well alltogether, Zion has electronics to control the voltage, regulation. The batteries are safe until like 2.5v really, and I think it'd be tough to take em any lower than 3v in Milaana if even (Zion also has protection), the preheat time would be frustrating and the slow sip hits minimal.

@little maggie Milaana means modulate so a fresh battery, maybe any above 4v, would get up to temp very fast so you just let go of the trigger very quickly, and if you want a longer hit hold the trigger again after 1-3 seconds without but still inhaling the whole time. This will allow for low temp hits on even a fresh battery (thanks to residual heat hits) and when the battery is below 4v you just need to preheat for a couple seconds before drawing basically (subject to change in final model perhaps but that should be it for the most part)

Technically it is a power regulation knob not a temperature knob.
Hey man...I'm not a scientist...I just play one on the internet. Thank you for the clarification!

Now that I think about it the 'power regulation knob' WOULD make more sense 'eh (regulated vs non regulated)

I'm still trying to get enough knowledge in my brain to start understanding battery volts or amps, power sags and all this other weird alien language I see being thrown around here.

Leave it up to a 'herbal' vaporizer to make me expand my horizons!!!

@GTAVaper how would you connect the powerbank to milaana? #weird science :whoa:

Actually you could do this fairly easily with some soldering skills ( I got some ). You could make a "18650" shaped connector with the power cord coming out of the back end. It could work like the MFLB power adapter and be powered from a wall wart (AC-DC converter) or variable voltage power bank like the one I use to make my Underdog Portable for the road! Also I have tons of super high capacity, high drain Lipo battery packs from flying RC Helis and multi-rotors. So If I can make the 18650 connector I could connect it to a basic $12 Boost/Buck unit and pretty much use any of my countless big batteries with the Milaana! The one I have only outputs 5 amps but you can get them to output whatever the Milaana requires. Output rating on the batteries is insane as long as the boost/buck unit can keep up without overheating.

Now to come up with a 18650 shaped connector like MFLB did for their 14650 linked below...
Actually something like this might do the trick wired to the power bank or big battery on a Boost/buck to control the power.

I'm order NOT to derail the thread, if you have some 'for dummies' material that I could digest to get necessary background on this project, feel free to send it! Thanks btw!!! Sounds promising. I'm down to aquire new skill sets.

I think there's a regular level of waiting anxiety that doesn't translate well to text and brings down the quality of good threads, cause beyond "I'm waiting!" and "Me too!" there's no there there. THEN there's threads like the Grasshopper where the manufacturer created big vacuums of expectation and then didn't fill them w/ results or tend them w/ information, so the space was filled in by layers of negative speculation.

I think we're mostly adults here who can handle filling our time while someone else does the work to make a thing we want. BUT I'm concerned we're missing self-declared deadlines and we don't know why, and I want RBT to handle this differently, cause the RBT threads have been my favorite.

I don't need my Milaana tomorrow, I can wait just fine, take all the time you need to get it right, etc, I'm just saying it's easier to wait when I know why I'm waiting. Personally, I'm a maker, I'd be interested in every detail about the process, but a timely update paragraph saying "We worked on X, Y, and Z, work continues" would totally suffice.

This. I would have much preferred he take the time he needs and not lead us on with "80% positive" nonsense. I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall ahead of time that he would miss his date, a little heads up would of taken away some of the sting.

This is not a good rabbit hole to go down. Storms a brewin' I'm sure.

Meh as far as I know he is still working on final touches, seems he would like to make one big positive update, to me 80% meant don't be surprised if its later, because the way he works it can be tough to get a precise feel on timing. At this point, with the history we all know, the goal may be to provide an update that can lay out timing for reals finally, but we should all know soon enough, this weekend perhaps?! :uhoh:

I think you know RBT better than most of peaple here so you can better than everyone interpretate his statements. but 80%confident to deliver all the units should not mean that it is not surprising to have 0 units shipped before the dead line..unless you do not believe what he says in first place.

But as I said, you (and @VegNVape for sure) know RBT better than anyone so you are more likely to interpretate his messages in the right way and maybe you are right to calm peaple down

That being said for me it is again and again a question of lack of minimal fair and respect on these threads.

Just realized I missed the deadline on Milaana, but it's still for sale on the website. Think I can still get away with ordering one?

My guess would be that he will fill any orders that have been placed before he closes the ordering on the site. This may be a place where his missing a deadline may help you...

I think what we know of RBT is that the vapes will be ready when they're ready, and while we (beta testers) may be able to delay release (by finding a problem) there is really nothing we can do to hasten release. I, like you, am anxious to get a Milaana and my production Zion, but I will be perfectly fine with waiting until RBT gets it to me. The longer it takes the better it is likely to be.

I certainly have no shortage of vapes these days...
