Milaana, the spoiler!
It has all but destroyed my VAS ventures. It is always back to Milaana with stock short stem. Unregulated 45 watts of power (regulated by the user) with a wide open 18mm glass air path makes it hard to beat. In all honesty, I cannot get anything to perform like this, not even in the ballpark. I have no choice but to stay 100% Milaana, at least until something else can come close for me. Not to mention sick efficiency, especially with some stirring.

In the end I ordered the vortex adapter m2m 18-14 that they sell in PV, they're done for the Milaana, it's more or less same price as OGB and in this ones you can use the arizer q screen if you want. Also I save some shipping cost!

I should have everything by the end of next week, can't wait to start testing this vape :science:

IMHO you might want to master it stock, most valuable feedback as you learn, before moving on to mods.

All this talk about stems and m2m adapters came at the perfect time, cause I just broke my stem. So I am in the market for a new stem or two and I'll probably try to pick up another adapter while I'm at it. For my direct draw stems I always used an arizer eq basket screen on top (to hold the load in the stem). Is the ogb stem short enough to do this again? I know the rim of the eq basket extends the length of the joint some and I'm worried about it contacting the screen. Also do you think ogb could make a m2m adapter with one side US joints for the milaana and one side ISO joint for normal glass?

Dude THANK YOU, I've been wanting to get some glass and didn't realize the D020 comes with an adapter that fits. Buying one right now!
CAREFUL!
I have purchased two D020-Ds, one came with the US M2M, one came with the ISO. I think they just grab from a bin of glass and don't really choose the sizing. Possibly you can specify, but don't count on it being US, just hope :)

Now that's clear that we are not taking the same kinds of hits. As I said I would, I started counting lately. For my typical "large" load which was last time I measured between 0.10g and 0.15g (I didn't have my precision scale with me lately, but I'm pretty regular in the way I prepare my bowls, putting a fine line of material in my hand to judge the quantity by sight)

Anyways, my first session lasted 32 hits with a stir after the 19th, my second session lasted 26 hits, and the last one lasted 36 hits. My ballpark estimate was not far and even a bit on the low side apparently. So it's perfectly normal that I get less bowls per charge with my usage pattern, but I'm not complaining mind you!

Now that we are sharing usage tips, I would like to react to how @Bravesst stirs in his above video (fun vid by the way, I liked how you almost rolled your eyes after the second hit heh) and also to @pandaphysics's post above where he mentions using a second screen to prevent material from falling:

I use the puck technique in all my vapes. It started as a necessity with my conduction vapes arsenal, as conduction ovens require constant contact to increase the surface area being heated and the efficiency, but against all odds it also proved beneficial in my convection vapes!

Try it once please, if you don't like it the only thing you'll have to do is stir it loose and get back to your old habit.

It's simple and nothing fancy: just tamp the load to make a flat puck, using your pinkie or any other flat round tool. Don't over-tamp but do it enough such that the puck surface is flat and you can put the stem upside down and the puck stays in place.

Now provided that you don't stir @pandaphysics, the load should stay where it is for the entire session and not a single crumb should fall. You don't need no stinkin' second screen man!

Then 2/3 down the session, when you start feeling a hint of "roasting" taste, flip the pancake! This doesn't work all the time but when it does it's really faster and less messy than @Bravesst's stir: take your stem and put the end very close to the palm of your hand (close enough but don't burn yourself!) then blow once relatively hard.

With proper technique the puck will fall in a single piece inside your palm. Carefully flip it over then put the tip of the stem around it and suck it back. Sometimes it will crumble but most often not. In all cases just suck everything back, and re-tamp gently.

With this method I get even browning instead of a color gradient (that you get if you don't stir at all) and I don't need to do it more than once per session. Once you cook the other side of the puck there's nothing left. I tried stirring like above at first but it was always a mess with bits falling etc. Worse it tended to mix the dark bits with the lightest bits. With the puck flip it's now fast and painless, the dark bits find themselves on the other side and only fresh ones get exposed, try it! :)

I can do a full session without stirring if I packed JUST RIGHT. Stirring is a cheat that can rescue you from a bad tamp. If I draw slow enough, tamp just right, stirring is barely necessary. I agree about potential mess, and have developed methods for keeping things neat. I'm trying to create the perfect stir tool, with some kind of cap that fits 18mm.

I will try the puck method now.

9:15
Load .1, 8 hits

9:20 EDT
Just tried it, blew too hard but salvaged the puck and flipped it. Gonna hit on it now.

9:33 EDT
Nice... Like a new load. If I can manage to nail the blow out of the puck, I'm golden, as I already tamp to a perfect puck with about .1 per load.
3 big hits, taste is awesome!

9:40 EDT
Still going after another 2 nice hits, still no stirring, I'm tempted to stir as the edges still seem light in color.

Stirring...

Very cool option to have. I love learning useful information, thank you @KeroZen

That's my Zion technique, except I don't use ground material. Finger-plucked or straight nug, tamped into a puck, with a flip somewhere during the session. I mostly do this because my Zion's hand-made vape-scrape (Ryan should sell these separately on the store, i fucking love mine) is almost always being abused by someone in the house, and unavailable for use (it's become a popular dabber for the household, and more recently a pipe cleaner for the combusters, something that irks me to no end).

I've been comparing Mi and Zi to a lot of other popular vapes, and I just can't find a reason to dislike them, about 9months in to owning my RBT devices. They heat up and provide vapor lightning fast. On days when my technique is killin it, I'm gulping nice cool vapor from my square wooden cup, like its a refreshing boba on a hot day.

The RBT heater tech seems to encompass the best qualities of each of my other vapes. I get speed, power, portability, and comfort, with the only sacrifice being discretion -- and I think it's a pretty minor sacrifice, as you can still fit this in the palm of your hand.

EDIT: Hey look, a new place to get Milaana online! The head shop in VT that sells Milaanas appears to be selling them on eBay now! The linked unit includes extras like a protective case, stems, and batteries.

I'm one of those who has had problems with joint clearance and rather than continue to take chances on fit with M2M adapters, I now simply use Ratchetts silicon reducer on known good stems. They work on both stock 19mm tube diameter as well as the smaller diameter of the 14mm tubes. What they don't work on is a far shorter list than what they do for me- love these things, seriously, they get used on nearly every vape I own.

I went quite a while without running my Milaana through water for a few other reasons, one out of fear of combustion. I wanted to get the hang of it dry first but found using through water actually really helped up my button and draw game. The instant visual feedback makes it very intuitive and I have not combusted once. It's now my preferred method with Milaana while at home.

I honestly had no idea what I was missing, I'd highly recommend! The adapter is fantastic, it is very forgiving on that joint and you can wedge it in so the stem stays on the bubbler without fear of joint lock. You can even use it with 14mm stuff in a pinch, though it cannot be dropped in- you have to massage the tapered silicon end into the female but it's easy and gives a good seal. You can't really rest Millie hands-free on the silicon but I don't do that, anyway. Use through glass is ideal for me as I don't have to tamp at all, no stir needed, and using concentrates is easy-peasy with no mess.

My room is too damn hot to leave my log running while home lately; the Milaana has been standing in quite nicely. I admit, we had a bit of a rocky start but I am more in love with her every day, any misgivings long gone :)

Convert your existing stem into a M2M (top-side is just a cap)

While I prefer using just glass for adapters (for a myriad of reasons, most obvious), the other day when I forgot my adapters were soaking in ISO I used one of @Ratchett's silicone adapters on a stem and it worked great. The flexibility makes them very adaptable.

If you are having trouble finding US jointed adapters locally, or having bad luck getting them with China glass, Oregon Glass Blower will make them to order for you however you want them. Just be sure to say you need a US joint, or that they are for the Milaana. I didn't specify whether I wanted both US or not, and they came with one US joint and one ISO joint.

IMO, because of the need for a US joint on accessories for the Milaana and Zion, and due to the fact that they are not the most common joints out there, I think it is wise for ANYONE selling the RBT products to also offer a US jointed M2M. It just saves anyone from having difficulty finding something appropriate that won't potentially damage the device.

Frankly, I think one should be included, even if it raises the price. @Ratchett's might be a good choice as an included adapter due to its flexibility..

I got an awesome wooden 18/18 m2m adapter / stem from @Alan . One of my favorite non stock pieces. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending upon your point of view, I am not into glass or water, actually envy those of you who are. I'm more of a sit back with my feet up recliner vape guy, as well as out and about, both situations which are not ideal for glass.

Wood pairs nice with Milaana. I had an Ed TNT stem that was very tasty and hit smooth but it exsists no longer and ed is no longer making custom stems.

I wonder if @Alan is making custom all wood Mi stems???

I realize, after trying many custom stems, for me short and fat is where it's at. A nice wood shorty would have a place in my daily rotation (which right now consists of two short stock stems that fit just right).

Totally agree there. Really been missing mine. The glass might not make her my top portable but she's ruling the roost at home again.

Broke it 2 weeks ago and just got repair back today. Really fast turn around and even a thank you card. It's a nice touch to see a handwritten card thanking me for the wait on repair along with my support.

Haven't been posting much cervical stenosis started making typing very difficult..but I wanted to post my positive experiences on this repair.

I dunno, Bravesst, that left hand looked pretty idle in the button tech vid.. someone get this man a D-020!:)

Man, you're making me even more excited about an order I placed with Alan for some M2M's. Bonus that they will share duty for my log. Alan has been a treat to deal with and I'm using Millie more and more all the time, can't wait to see his craftsmanship.

My all-wood Alan stem is pretty much exactly what you described and it's my #1 stem. Super short, comes less than an inch past the female joint. Between the wide open airflow and the incredible feedback it's just fantastic. Works with regular basket screens and ddave style rimmed screens. It's the only stem I have that I use EVERY time I use my Mi.

Glad you like the adapter. I am making custom all wood Mi stems. Will send you an email to see what I can make you.

@6079Smith - Have your wood blanks cut and will turn them with the current batch of tubes.

@ZC - Glad to hear you are able to use your tubes so many different ways. They are so versatile.

Yeeeaaaah I think I am going to need one of your shorty woodies as well, I am still preferring the stock RBT screens so the fact they work with all the options is fantastic (would like to try ELBs again some day maybe but they're way too expensive for me... I actually used that prototype cork stem as an 18mm HI stem the other night, the mix/match is fun) Glad to see you getting involved with Milaana accessories on a more official basis now

I appreciate all the technique tips. I've been doing a pretty fine grind, tamped pretty tight and larger bowls for the most part.

My GF and her lil bro both combusted this weekend :/ As did I.

It always seems to happen after you get a hit that was okay but small and so you go for another holding longer and maybe pulling a little harder and it's already a little heat soaked and bam!

Gonna try a coarser, more loose pack in the stems and maybe abandon the basket screen in the gong as that forces a tight pack and puts the load right up against the screen and maybe even adds a little conduction.

I feel like I'm able to pretty well regulate the heat fairly well, but then I'm not getting very gratifying hits. They happen occasionally though so I know they're possible, I'm just not sure what I'm not doing consistently correct.
