I honestly didn't think to ask that question. I got my unit second hand so I'm not sure if it's covered in the first place, but it's certainly a fair question to ask RBT before you try it.

That said, you aren't modifying the device itself, you're just using a different power source than the included battery.

I love you electronic guys... When you sort this out, I'm ready to follow instructions and try anything. Glad my comment got you geniuses talking again, but i'll stick to my area of expertise, the operation of this bad boy. I love FC! I consider myself a relatively smart guy, but electronics are HARD. I get lost from the beginning to end of your sentences. :wave: *remember that when you talk to me...

On a power supply note, went into local ecig vape shop here on LI. No more Sony batts, Sony bailing out on vape business it seems.

@Alan, any cool looking wood, glaas combos being made by You?

Here are some I have done recently. Afzelia and amboyna burl glass lined and all wood, 18mm male to male connectors. The glass mouthpiece tube can be as long as you want it for cooler vapor.

@ZC - The 10A power converter with the digital display arrived today. Was surprised to see it is exactly the same size as the Milaana. I made a fake battery from a wooden dowel some washers and ss screws. I drilled a hole through the dowel to feed the wire to the bottom rather than a notch. The washers hold the wires in place both top and bottom and make electrical contact without needing to solder anything. The cord from the fake battery to the power converter definitely must be heavy gauge to carry the current. I connected the converter to a 12v 6A power supply and adjusted the voltage to around 5. The voltage drops to about 3.2 when the button is depressed and down below 3 when drawing hard. It worked well and the hits were very tasty. Seems like a fresh battery will still make hotter air (too hot), but I like temperatures this 10A converter provides. It is always very consistent with good extraction. I can just get the heater to start glowing so I feel confident it will not harm the Milaana considering a fresh battery can really get the heater glowing. A 15A power converter certainly would provide a bit more power. May have to get one for a comparison. Would be nice to find one in a case with a display like the 10A converter.

I'm not too familiar with the flashvape so the biggest question with their power adaptor is how much power it provides and if it provides the amps required. The website says their batteries are "high drain" but without actual specs its hard to say if it would be enough for the Mi. I'd hate to spend the money on one only to find that the Mi frys it because it needs more power.

On top of that from the looks of it, even though it has a "dummy battery" it also has the bottom of the FV built into it, so you'd definitely have to modify this expensive thing still to fit it in the Mi.

The Aliexpress power supply is more work but is also more likely to work since we know it was the specs we require. I believe Alan ordered a similar PSU and is going to test it.

The FlashVAPE PA puts out a maximum of 3.5V 15a. I've been using FV 3.7V batteries in the Milaana ever since I first got one. The PA would be just fine in terms of power output, but it otherwise is not a good solution. It is heavy and really REALLY big and as you mentioned, you would have to modify it.

@Alan

Those stems are beautiful! I've been using the ones you made for me. I'm finding I like the pure wood one more. It's extremely short and gives me amazing feedback of the temps and vapor I'm getting.

I'm glad that the vvps worked out for you! I'll add your experience to the resource I'm making. I'm sure a lot of people would prefer the enclosed module and the built in screen. I'd love to see pictures of the fake battery you built.

@pakalolo
Thanks for the info on the FV brick.
I suppose it could be useful if you already have a FV. You could find a second connector like the one it has and just make a battery for it, and then use the FV power brick for either vape.

I've been thinking more about the 10A vs 15A thing and given Alan's findings I think 10a will be fine for most people.

The major difference is that with 15 you can push it higher, and potentially get instant vapor with no heat up time, with 10A you will have less power than a full battery but all that means is you have to hold the button for longer.

For me that's a no, go. Plugging into a wall should provide more power than a battery, not less. But that's just me being picky, it's functionally just fine.

Thanks for the links!
Off to shop for my version.

Even though i hate batteries, the Mi is the first vape i reach for...
To have a cable and instant, consistent power would bring it to another level!

I don't mind the battery, not crazy about cords, especially of the nano kind (flat, doesn't bend well). But I do look FWD to the possibility of regulation and a cool power supply with a round be bendable cord.

So the whole goal of packing a Milaana stem is to create some restriction. Yesterday I got to thinking...why not mash a whole nugget in there for max restriction? Boom...only one or two draws in with my load size and it's ready for the dump and crumble. Since I normally dump to stir at some point anyhow, I don't think I'll ever grind again for this one!

Now I'm gonna deepen the bowl a bit to get the herbs just a little further from the heater, as the current configuration will singe the load if I lose track of what I'm doing. Then I just gotta adjust to the new setup.

Yeah sticks!

My Zion loves this technique too - I ruthlessly cram in a torn off nug, literally as hard as possible, then happily vape away. And once the side closest to the heater is suitably browned, I pull the whole thing out which now resembles a puck, flip it & vape the other side. No stirring required if the bowl is kept relatively shallow. It really is so easy & convenient - especially for on the move.

In fact, my SCS is feeling quite snubbed just lately! He be all like . . . . .

That's a great place to be! I plan on getting the bowl deep enough that I can crumble and stir it inside the bowl...kind of like I do with the 7th Floor wands.

It's a fun time to be a vapor junkie...I've got four on-demand convection portables I'm testing, and we used to only dream of having one! Each one has its pros and cons. The Milaana has been the hardest for me to figure out, but the results do laps around all the others.

I've taken to thinking of the Milaana as a big lighter at the end of a cigar, and I just pull little blasts of heat into it and let it roll out to me. I really like rbt's tag line of vape differently. It hits the nail right on the head. If I come at this like other vapes I have a hard time, but when I adjust what I do to how Milaana works it brings vaping to another level!

^^^Agreed. Definitely a good time to FC with so many cool on-demand convection devices available. And it's impressive to hear from you that once dialed in, the Milaana is killing it.

And I love this simile:
I've taken to thinking of the Milaana as a big lighter at the end of a cigar,
Awesome. Milaana is a Migar!

And yeah, RBT tech definitely allows me to vape differently too - or how ever I choose for that matter. Nugs or grind, tantalising tasters to monster rips, hit it & quit it or a steady session. It's all within reach with these innocent looking lumps of maple . . . . :cool:

All I can say is, RBT, don't you ever dare stop!

@ZC - Here is a photo of my fake battery setup along with the Milaana and power control unit. I have a micro knob to adjust the voltage so no screwdriver is required. I did need to add another washer to raise the copper contact a bit. I need to find some wire that is a bit longer and more flexible. May try installing a power socket on the pcu for input power. I am also thinking a power supply with more amp capacity might help. It seems I am at the limits of my 12v 6a supply. If I try to turn the voltage up above 6, it will shut down the pcu like it did when I tried it with a 12v 2a supply. Will let you know how it does with a 12v 10a supply I just ordered.

Milaana has made it back safe and sound with her new recessed glass and a green short stem to boot! There is still the odd imperfection - the glass isn't 100% level as there is a slight pisa lean but that is only really noticeable with the long stem inserted and it wouldn't be my Milaana if it was too perfect!

Just topping my battery up before I give her a run out, really happy to have her back, seems it was shipped out the day before I posted my concerns last week so no shipping confirmation still but who cares now she is back in my possession.

Looks so cool, afraid to hit it.
UPDATE 1: This turns Mi into a whole new beast, in the process of being tamed [cough, cough]. You'd think cooler, but somewhat substantially reduced feed back, and volume can sneak up on me, is making it harsh at first. Probably takes more juice to run this. If I refine technique the battery conservation may somewhat return.

UPDATE 2: I just got the 5 biggest hits of my life. The last one was a full punch in the face. This has to be reserved for special occasions for numerous reasons (big, will break one day for sure, blitzed, choking), but holy shit. Nap time...

Almost there...
The awesome team over at RBT Labs contacted me after i turned my Mi blue!
I was offered some shorty colored glass stems! SWEET!!

The two stems arrived today along with a card with a hand written message!
HOW COOL IS THAT!!
So i now own a blue and a green shorty stem!
And boy do they change up the game!!
Super tasty, intensely flavored hits!

@charchol
Thanks again!! They are awesome!
Will post pics later when capable...

I'm beginning to realize the power of the shorty myself. Once mastered, it allows the most instinctual, and therefore most dialed in session. I feel like I'm literally pulling the good stuff right out.

This has been my go to way of vaping since I first got the mi. If the shorty is too hot then feather the button a little more or increase your draw. The shorty gives you that feel only a Jedi can appreciate. Lol

Exactly!!!
You have so much more control with the temps being that much closer to the heater.
Once you find the temp you like, i find i can ride that wave for a while by feathering the button.
Low temps are easy, high temps super easy and anything in-between.

The long stem is a great beginners stem to realize the power of the beast!
Then once graduated to JedMi, bust out that short stem and really conserve your meds!

Look at that vape graveyard... They all get some use but not as much as my top 3 daily drivers!
Milaana is first and easiest, as long as the battery is charged...
Supreme 3 hits the hardest but is not as quick.
Roor Vapor just keeps on pumping it out till the ABV is perfectly brown! 8 minute heat up, so mainly a weekend vape.

The Milaana covers all the bases!

But I like it!
I've been using a long stem for a day, just to re-evaluate, and I prefer the shortie stems still. Thats mostly because I carry Millie around in a chest pocket. And occasionally a front pants pocket. Or cargo shorts pocket. Or ATV dash compartment. Anyways, smaller is better for much of that...

But I *do* have a J-hook here that will pair well once I can find a screen for a double F, or wait til my Special Order from Heat Island shows up... And one of these days I'll try water, as well. So far it's JedMi Style ;)

Again :drool: over that blue meanie (millie?) Was hoping you'd post another pic when you mentioned the free stems... May have to send you mine to do the exact same thing to once I have another spare new model...

I got back into Mi now after my break (some people are justnot into a torch, so sharing opportunities broke the seal, after some dedicated testing of other vapes I mentioned earlier), but yeah I'm still a big fan! Short stem, long stem, whathaveyou, but may ultimately prefer short too, though long has its benefits and gets plenty of use at home. And speaking of long stems, been using this new black one from mountain glass that is slightly longer than the RBT ones even, huge thanks to @mephisto for hooking me up with it and a blue on, generous sweetheart that he is :tup:

Thanks for all the kind comments about the power supply. Glad people are as excited about it as I am!

@Alan
Thanks for the pic and the info. Looking forward to hearing your results with the 12v10A power brick.

Not too surprised that you're hitting limits at 6v.

I don't know what the resistance is with your setup, but if it's similar to mine (0.533 ohms.) then you might be pushing the limit of the 10A vvps in addition to the power brick. 6v at 0.533 should pull about 11.25A. 67w

The power brick itself should be able to provide 72w, but some of that is going to be lost to the efficiency of the vvps, so you're probably hitting or close to hitting the limits of both devices?

Does it shut down as soon as you go over 6v, or does it turn off when you press the button?

@Bravesst

That stem is a MONSTER! I'd be so afraid of breaking it though. I'd also be overly cautious about its weight. A that length the cantilevered weight might put too much pressure on the Mi's female joint but maybe I'm just being paranoid.

@lazylathe

That blue Mi looks more beautiful every time I see it. I'm definitely going to have to do something custom for mine soon, yours is truly inspiring!

We @ZC has inspired me to test my capabilities I am going to get some parts together to make a power adapter for Mi... small difference though I am not going for mains power but I'm gonna plug into the socket on the side of this jump starter power bank
n5gxxAL.jpg

The car adapter port on the side is rated for 12v at 11a should be plenty to power the dc dc buck.
Why do this you ask? Why go to the trouble of making a plug in adapter but use anothe battery?
Both good questions both answered by

Why not! To see if I can! So I can have regulated power... And also when I go camping I know after I drain my normal bats I have this as a back up and I doubt I can drain it in a week...
What do you all think? Use the car plug socket or wire it into the actual jump leads?

Also Ive been meaning to upload some Milaana porn for ages so here goes

This one is regarding screen cleaning... which I DONT do as it is completely unnecessary with the way I use it
