itI saw a BEAUTIFUL dog with colors just like this frenchie today. He was a bit older, lazier (woke him from his nap walking in), and had big huge bat ears. He was so freaking cute. I wanted to dog-nap him. If these dogs weren't so expensive and prone to so many different ailments I would have gotten one long ago. Which is funny because it's pretty much the only breed of dog under 100lbs or so I am particularly fond of.
In other news this was our latest addition to the three ring circus i call my life

Last time I was having dog problems I got some really, really helpful advice here. So I'm back hoping for more good info.
Last time, my puppy Cyrus (now 16 months old) was having housebreaking issues. That was resolved some time ago. Now he is ill, and has pooped his crate and my apartment three times in as many days. He is giving no signal he needs to go, just starts spraying diarrhea around.
He went to the vet yesterday, who gave me meds for him that they said could take a couple of days to work. But I am also concerned that he maybe needs a different food. He is an OEBD, and they can be twitchy with food. I had had him on duck and brown rice based food, but he had periodic issues. Switched him to Natural Balance duck and potato, and he got better for a bit. But now three days of diarrhea. Problem is, while ill, my vet recommended I cook him rice and chicken. Had to remind her, like many OEBDs, he cannot handle chicken. And he gets ill whenever there is a minor food alteration, let alone replacing his dry food alla at once with rice and turkey or beef. But I'm gonna have to try something. As it is I may need to stay home from work tomorrow to watch him and clean up any mess he might make.
Already tried numerous Blue and Nutro Max foods, all made him sick. Never had an OEBD before who was not OK on duck and potato, but even before this bout of diarrhea his stools were looser than they should be. Can anyone recommend some other food for a dog with sensitive digestion? Thinking about trying either the Natural Balance venison and sweet potato food or salmon and sweet potato, neither of which have grain.
Or is there a supplement that can help? Have tried a couple of probiotics to no avail. Anyone used dinovite with any success?

arf777, I'm almost wondering if you need to go raw diet with him. Your being a chef would certainly make that an easier task than for most.
At the very least, you might want to consider making his food. Although I don't make my dog's food,
this site has given me a ton of information about alternative dog foods and health.

I've been seriously thinking of cooking his food myself. I just need to do the research to make sure it's nutritionally complete. Thanks for the link. The chef in me has some issues with raw meat - I have had it drilled into me so deeply to treat it as nearly a biohazard unless it is at least cured, smoked, or parcooked, I'd feel weird giving straight raw to him. But cooking i can do.
If I could get duck cheaper, I'd definitely do it. Gonna try turkey or beef the next few days and see how he does. Most bulldogs tend to be OK with beef. More expensive than turkey though, and he's a big guy. I fear what his food bill could become. He eats almost 2 pints of dry food a day, I'd guess that'd be a couple pounds of raw or food I'd cook.

I just ordered the cat version of this and am going to give it a try. My poor Bennett is 15 years old, has an over active thyroid, can't keep weight on, and lacks energy and luster. I read the list of ingredients and was pretty impressed. Lots of probiotics, digestive enzymes, minerals and such.

I'd be surprised if you haven't already try this, but just in case: slippery elm bark is a safe food additive that will often help cats and dogs with digestive issues. It made a big difference to my great friend Mooch, who was suffering from liver failure. I've never used it on a dog, but I know it is recommended for them.

If the other options don't work I'll give this a try. Though personally I tend to shy away from herbal medicines, as I am allergic to just about all of them (even echinacea and chamomile), I am certainly willing to try them with my pets.
On a different topic, any recommendations on getting an elderly cat (20 years old) to stop going outside his litter box? I've tried a special litter that allegedly encourages litter box use in senior cats but it stopped making a difference after a few days.
