It still blows me away to read about hemp and all the things it's done in history and can be used for. I'm sure your right about everything your saying. Legalizing Hemp growth would shift power and redistribute the wealth cannabis as well. It would risk everything they have worked 50 years to achieve.

Too true, because not so long ago mj was legal and easily available...and then the U.N got involved I believe and it is what is now...ridiculous.
Grown men and woman can't relax and keep themselves to themselves in the comfort of their own homes after a hard days work...but you can go to the shops and buy a pack of cigarettes that have been proven to be very nasty for you and others around you....you can also either from that same store or from many many bars buy a liquid substance known as alcohol that can send you bonkers and make you do things out of character and make you feel terrible the next day.

I'm wearing some hemp clothes right now, kind of weird it's not more popular as a clothingmaterial. I decided to buy hemp clothes when I needed some new clothes mostly for the ecological/environmentally benefits, but also because I was just curious.

at first I liked the feel on my skin better(it feels a bit rougher as cotton, but not itchy like wool, it actually makes scratching easier since the slight roughness enhances the effectiveness of the scratch, so that it's still satisfying with some layers of clothing between the itchy spot and the scratching finger), by now I don't really notice it anymore(the clothing most often in contact with my skin isn't 100% hemp btw, but a blend of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton, the shirt I wear over that is 100% hemp)
I find that the comfort-range seems to be bigger with hemp, and if I have to go outside for a short while I don't really notice a temperaturedifference, it takes longer before the cold has penetrated.

I now need some new jeans since holes have started appearing in one of my intact ones, so I plan on ordering some 100% hemp jeans.

I am not sure hemp prohibition is that nefarious as the article suggests, but I do believe that entrenched interests (like law enforcement which enjoys seizing people's goods and the incarceration industry which fattens on prohibition) are happy to keep it going. The plant is so amazingly fast growing, so adaptable to different conditions, and so useful in so many ways that it is really, really weird for us to prohibit it.

I agree that the feds don't care about pot smokers. They do, however, care about dispensaries and the businesses that will be the result of the legalization of cannabis in Washington and Colorado. I tend to agree with Gunky. Hemp production would be threatening to certain industries, but I don't think the feds are really aware of hemp's enormous potential.

Before cannabis prohibition (1937) in the US, everyone knew what hemp was. Everyone knew that it was useful for rope, paper, and fabric. The founding fathers grew hemp and drafts of the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper. 75 years later, few people even know what hemp is, much less its many uses. Many who do know what hemp is don't realize that you can't get high from it and associate it with pot. That's more likely the reason hemp isn't legal.
