THC 'bliss molecule' found in black truffles. WTF?

h3rbalist

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/s...e-black-truffles-dug-out-by-pigs-9943055.html

'The chemical, which is also known as “the bliss molecule” due to its alleged benefits in alleviating pain and depression, is likened to that of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is found in marijuana and its various forms. “Ananda” is also the Sanskrit word for extreme delight or bliss.'

'A compound called anandamide, which triggers the release of feel-good chemicals in the brain, is produced by the fungi also known as Tuber melanosporum'

I don't know about you but I've never heard of a THC bliss molecule, but that doesn't mean I don't like the sound of it.

Were't these the type of truffles that Snoopy used to dig up?

:hmm:

Anandamide has been known to scientists for a while now guys - never go to newsmedia for science reporting!

The only news here is that they have found a truffle which contains it ;)

yep, seems like they got the 'bliss-molecule' from the name:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anandamide

they fail to mention though that it's 'just' a neorotransmitter, it's not some exotic chemical wich looks luike thc, it's a chemical that we humans can make ourselves in our bodies, and instead thc happens to fit the same lock
(although historically, thc was discovered/isolated earlier)
