i swear you guys are the only ones that notice my fuck ups lol. i use my phone (an lg v20, a new phone geared towards videography) for everything. there is a wide angle lens as well as a regular lens, and they really try to sell the wide angle for shooting video...but as you can see on this weeks episode the wide angle video looks like dog shit at 1080p pretty much with jumpy framerates to boot. i even had to resync audio in a few places. as herbivore already commented the macro video looks tits - it makes use of the regular lens. i think the wide angle works well outdoors but in a high contrast environment like my room where i'm bright but everything else is dark it is really struggling. it even did some weird shit where it cropped the sides off my footage halfway through (wtf?)
i have a wide angle attachment that i can put onto the regular lens, but it disables the autofocus which makes things tough when filming. it's a bummer, the wide angle built in would really make life easy but i'll have to battle manual-ish focus with the physical wide angle lens to get the quality up. to make things even more fun i'm forced to use the stock camera app because it makes exclusive use of the built in stereo mic/dac, another v20 feature. but, for whatever reason i can't control my phone with any mirroring software when the stock camera is open. 3rd party camera apps work great with mirroring software but then no stereo mic (the audio without the stereo mic is terrible tinny garbage). my setup used to be basically a tablet acting as a giant wireless touchscreen viewfinder with menu. SO CLUTCH. now i have to get up and squeeze behind a narrow gap between my desk and the wall and physically tap my phones screen to stop/start takes which moves me and potentially the camera.
regarding 60fps that was experimental and i will be sticking to 30fps because the slow motion can get so much slower that way.
probably going to buy a camcorder down the road but the phone could be really killer as an all in one solution if i can get it dialed. once i get it dialed transitioning to 4k will be easy. even with a camcorder i'd need a wide angle lens shooting as close as i do in this room and that's a thousand bucks i don't even remotely have. i'm still struggling getting review material comped every week.
on a brighter note i feel i've pretty much nailed my vocal audio now. sounds good on this one. also there's a chance i'll be able to start filming reviews at work which would be a massive upgrade to quality as i wouldn't have to be stuffed into my bedroom when i film. i'd also be able to do more videos..but i think i might get tomatoes thrown at me if the channels originators don't come back and make videos soon
