Tempest Or Anvil

Milaana. Lana. LANA. LANAAAA! (TM2/TP80/BAK/FW9)
Hello, I recently got my TM2 but I can’t stop hearing about both the Tempest and Anvil. I know people love both but i’m wondering what is a better all around option. Thanks!

I think they are quite different, have you also looked into the new thermal accumulator??

You may want to take your heat source into consideration. Are you planning on torch, IH, or both?

The wand Induction Heater is really good with the Tempest and Anvil, but the Thermal Accumulator doesn't perform as well as the Tempest in the Wand. Dani Fusion 2.0 is great in the wand, but requires a little more than 1 full cycle.

Also worth mentioning the Tempest is more of a convection vape than the rest with really open airflow.

I like the Anvil for what it is; but it's taken a back seat to the Tempest and the Thermal Accumulator (3) which are my favorites in this sort of space

The Tempest is IH / Wand compatible and has great flavour and is a complete device in of itself - where the Thermal Accumulator you'll need to get a good torch or a much stronger IH than the wand for really good results - but the Thermal Accumulator is a much more hybrid experience / more "stony" feel.

all depends on what your looking for but as a TM2 user I would say you would probably like the flavour of the Tempest (convection bias) over the Anvil (which kind of has a little more hybrid signature)

Imo, the Tempest is not at his best actually, it's not yet well calibrated, powerful and really reliable in use, despite the hype.
The Anvil has long since proved its worth, and as a powerful 1hitter, it's the best imo. Very well designed, very well tuned, reproducible experience, ma favorite so far.
The TA3 is a nice device too but will need more power to heat it.

if I had to buy today, I'd definitely buy the Anvil. If I could wait for the official release of the Tempest.... it would be probably the Anvil too, even though I like the Tempest.:)

My TA3 and my anvil need more or less the same time to heat with my wand…

Approximately how long is the cool down time for each of them naturally or on a magnet/cold surface?

The TA3 will heat up in the wand, but it's not sufficient, it's like driving a go kart around a nascar track. Definitely shines with a torch though!

I can't speak personally about the Anvil's capabilities because I don't own one, but from what I've read it's a great companion to the Wand and heats up faster than the Dani Fusion 2.0 in it.

In case the visual and auditory indicators were tuned to perfection would that be enough to solve all the problems you cite or do you think there might be more to improve?

Even though tempest is not in its final form, it beats out the anvil for me in its current form. Making full release a real incredible vape to wait for.

Anvil is great and easy but lacks in many places the Tempest shines. Native use for Tempest is flavorful, and the cooling from the stem is like having a bong on the go. Anvil the vape is roasty and harsh native stem. Anvil is best suited for home use on a bong. But Tempest can do both and excels at both. Also tempest is much easier loading and unloading especially on the go. I kinda dislike repacking the anvil when it’s hot.

I think both are worth having as they are different enough but Tempest is what I reach for daily while anvil gets use here and there so Tempest for sure if I can only get one.

As a fellow TM2 owner, the TM2 and the Tempest are what I mostly use in the portable sense and definitely the only two I take with me out the house.

I have the click discs and visual gauge working and its well calibrated imo - but the beta versions I can understand the sentiment. With everything working its powerful, easy to control, easily clears the bowl in any setting. It doesn't have the same roast as the Anvil due to a different level of conduction (imo) but its definitely as well calibrated and a really powerful convection device.

Glad to see this being discussed. My Anvil has been my daily driver for ~2 years now, but I've been eyeing a Tempest with the official release near.
What's the main reason(s) you like the anvil?

Personally I have no issues heating the TA3 with the Wand, that’s pretty much all I use
I haven't tried it too much - how did you set the wand up?

You know, I'm not entirely sure. I also have a full FlowerPot setup, and only turn it on for the weekends most times. I think I like the ritual and the signature, and part of me liked the idea I could match or near match the extraction of the FlowerPot without having to have a hot coil on my desk all the time. I could fire up the Anvil and be done in the time I'd be waiting for the coil to heat. I do also like how it feels indestructible. I've got a few portable wood based vapes and I like them, but if they get dropped or jostled too hard I worry about the wood or internals, I also don't have to worry about keeping batteries charged as I do with these.

I guess I do know. It's the ritual and that it feels like a portable heavy hitter, without feeling flimsy. It's consistent and the extraction is easily repeatable. It's my 'Ole Reliable.

I look for a ritual as well, very cool, thank you for sharing.
do you heat the anvil in the wand? i hear the wand cant with the anvil
I have been using the ThermoCore in the wand and it works well

I really feel like the TA is the oven that hits the hardest... I prefer the Tempest stem over the Anvils stem & I prefer the maintenance of the Tempest stem over the Anvil stem... the ritual with a torch and the TA is one of my favorite things... I feel like the Tempest and Anvil works in my wand the best (haven't mastered the TA in the wand)....

Overall, the Tempest gets the most use since I got the beta click discs and visual gauge, both calibrated. The only time I really reach for other device is for a different more "stoney" feeling (usually the TA) as I honestly haven't got that "stoney" feeling from the Tempest yet.

when use the wand to heat this vapes do you need more than 1 heat cycle? , I try the tempest stem one time but I have the impression it retains a lot of flavor in the stem when i use it "open" its very flavour but the vapour its hard

So, to reiterate, I have the TA3. It is on a wood Revolve Gen2. The airport is fully closed. The TA3 head is open/closed in such a way that there are two pretty much perfect circles visible. I have my Wand currently at 585 F. I sit back on my sofa and hold the wand in my left hand kind of at a 45 degree angle. The display is visible. I hold my TA in my right hand, also at a 45 degree angle such that the head goes through the back of the Wand. Essentially both hands are kind of resting on my belly and the two devices make a triangle above. I have the TA head anywhere from flush to the edge of the hole to maybe 5mm past the edge. Run until time over and away I go.

honestly i don't know, that would require a thorough study, which I haven't done.:)

What's certain is that the Scruffywoofers cooling stand is effective for the Tempest, and I've got another one on the way for the Anvil.

In case the visual and auditory indicators were tuned to perfection would that be enough to solve all the problems you cite or do you think there might be more to improve?
Probably, with better bowl screen too (I think this has already been updated, mine is from November 2023).
I mostly used the Tempest in the Wand and more with the torch actually. Maybe i prefer it with the torch. Like the Anvil, the Bfg Fusion and the TA.
I'm waiting for the powerful IHs that will soon be available.

I honestly haven't got that "stoney" feeling from the Tempest yet.

The main reason why the Anvil keeps its throne.
Anvil is great and easy but lacks in many places the Tempest shines.
I mentioned earlier that the Anvil is a wonderful one-hitter, which is what it was designed for. So yes, it responds less well to other ways of consuming. The Tempest is certainly more versatile, and in that respect it belongs in any collection.

If Tempest is more a convection vape and Anvil a hybrid, how much conduction proportion can there be in the Anvil? Mainly convection, mainly conduction, other ?

Anvil has been labeled primarily convection, with some conduction, in the past.
A recent post in the thread mentioned the XL bowl tends more to conduction because of the added mass.
By that logic, the Half Bowl would be more convection.

Speaking from experience – I use the Half Bowl if I want a more heady effect. XL hits harder but it's hard to tell how much the heating style differs because of the extra quantity of material.
