Strains and vaporizer flavor

I am new medical marijuana patient so I have access to quite a bit of different strains at the local dispensary. I got a Hotbox vaporizer and quickly noticed that when you smoke cannabis the flavor is different than when you vaporize. Some strains taste earthy (dirt) when vaped. The best tasting strain that I have found so far would be Jack Herer, when vaped it tastes like a flowery white grape taste (still trying to figure out the exact taste). I was wondering if anyone has found any other great tasting strains? So far I have tried C99, Trainwreck, GDaddy (taste like it smells), Purple Sour Diesel (earthy), and Jack Herer ( which has the best flavor). Anybody else out there trying to find interesting tasting strains for vaping?

I haven't had any actual strains of marijuana.... but the bud I have right now taste sooo good in the vape. 'Flowery white grape' taste is a pretty good descriptor. :)

What I am really wondering, is if real medical Blueberry/bubblegum/etc. taste like actual blueberries/bubblegum/x in the vape....

well, if i its in stock at the seedbank when i order the seeds, ill be getting an autoflower blueberry strain, so ill let you know say mid january ;)

otherwise im getting af master kush, im going to try to get a sativa dom and an indica dom, and i can blend them together to get maximum variety of effects using minimal space, the sativa will be an autoflower amnesia haze (if i can afford it and a pd :uhoh: otherwise im just getting an indica)

btw jason, in a little over a month im getting my card so ill be in the same boat as you

its a real shame our fucktard governor vetoed the bill that protected patients from job discrimination...

Different strains do have taste variations. How the plant was grown, dried and cured can also define the taste.

I havent vapped a nug yet that didn't taste nice :D

Yeah its ridiculous, I had to use one of those cleanse drinks to get my current job. The MMJ card is the best thing I have ever done, the dispensaries are awesome like lit bit of Amsterdam in California. I go once month and each time try a couple of different strains.

Well it depends C_D...it's not as easy as you'd think. First of all I don't know that there's even dispensaries on this side of the country. You should find out about Quebec; I live in the Atlantic Provinces and I'm almost certain there's none here. There are growers collectives and "sympathy groups", but they're much harder to hook up with and not well advertised. Also, getting a card is not as easy as you'd think. At least, that's my experience in the Maritimes. You should check out the scene in Quebec and let us know what it's like...it could be TOTALLY different, that's for sure. Definitely worth looking into. Your best bet is also psychological ailments...the physical ailments you can be carded for are relatively well defined...psychological claims seem to be the best approach for your "average" user. Besides, I'd say that like 80% of us DO use herb for psychological reasons, anyway...so its a valid claim. But do some research if you're interested and let the rest of us Canucks know what the scene is like...

I am looking to get a vaporizer to cut down on the crap I get from regular smoke. Can you taste the different flavors, subtleties of the different herbs? I enjoy the flavors of different strains as much as the medicinal effects. Also does vaporizing bring out the subtle effects that indica or sativa bring to the table?

Sorry for the noob question....just that I never vaped before.

Yeah, they're pretty sharp.

To answer your first question succinctly, HELL TO THE YEAH!:D

In fact you may find that you never fully appreciated the taste nearly as much as you will when vaping it.
Once you get all the noxious shit out of the equation, nuances you have not previously experienced appear.
And yes, you will also absolutely feel the differences between varieties and strains like never before.

One of my favorite parts of converting to vape is the flavor. It is also the first thing friends comment on when they try the 1st time vape. The taste is wonderful and who knew it could taste even better if you didn't light that shit on fire lol! Someone could have told me that decades ago :D

I can taste the differences between varieties very well and savor the flavor with vaping a lot!!

The only strains I've ever had that I actually knew about were Trainwreck and Afghani and I enjoyed both of them but this was before I got into vaping and I only smoked.

I wish I knew the names of the strains of herb that was the best that I've ever had they were definitely Sativas or Sativa dominant ones since they were very a very psychedelic spacey high and not the typical Indica high.

Where I procure, they think I'm a bit of a nut because I always ask for Jack. I have tried a number of strains, various NYC Diesels, Purple reign, Cush, but in the 6 months or so since I got my EV the Jack always seems to vape better that other strains. I seems to get the most vapor and desired effects, taste aside (a number can be good for taste) I actually tried a new strain last night (forgot which...wonder why) which seemed to work as good as jack.

One thing I started doing recently which I think helps is vacuum sealing. I open my purchase (which come foodsavered, then I break it up into approximately 1 nights use, then seal each nug in separate reusable Food Saver bags. It's so nice each evening open to a fresh bag with moisture in it. I read in another thread that FS bags pull less crystals than baggies and it seems to work that way so far. Lets see what happens as I keep reusing the bags, to see if they get as coated with valuable crystals.

Yeah NYC, I agree. Jack is great. Especially when ya got something to do. Skywalker is a great night time med, but really, they're both great.

Fuck, there's so many strains that I've never tried yet.

Taste is definitely my favorite aspect to vaping, it's amazing how asleep my taste-buds were to MJ's variability when I smoked.

I don't get specific strains as often as I'd like though I do have a grower friend whose harvest is only available once or twice a year. What I've noticed though is that I pick up a citrus flavor on good herb more than any other flavor. The other very common flavor I taste is that hard-to-describe and volatile 'earthy' or 'dirty' flavor, much better than 'dirty' makes it sound.

It's really hard to describe the tastes vaporizing offers because they aren't easy to reference.

I noticed the Sativa Dominant strains taste more floral / fruity, and the Indica Dominant strains taste more earthy / spicy / chemically. Hybrids like the OG KUSH I normally vape give you alittle bit of both.

By far, the best tasting strain I have tried is Banana OG from my local dispensary on Wilshire :D

It might sound stupid, but it actually tasted like bananas!

But like vaporcloud said, I think a lot of the taste has to do with how well the bud was grown/cured

I never know what strain I have unfortunately. Since I started vaping I've had three different kinds of bud. The last two had decent flavour, I'd call it an earthy almost hay/straw-like taste, with just a hint of mint(?). This most recent batch though has a very distinct lemon flavour to it that I really like! Fresh it has almost what I would call a diesel smell. I love how you can taste these flavours with vaping. I smoked again recently and noticed a huge difference. All I could taste was nasty smoke and no good bud flavours!

Like depression etc for instance? Man, I only realized recently that my depression is part of why I smoke...

How do you apply for a MMJ card in Canada? Through your doctor? What are the benefots of having an MMJ card in Ontario? Are there any dispensaries or would you have to buy as per usual?

You have to fill out the multipart form (20 pages or so depending on the options you choose) available from the Health Canada website, provide 2 passport style notarized photo's, conduct what *may* prove to be a troublesome interview with the doctor you've selected (GP or specialist), provide a patient signed release of liability form for your doctor, get him or her to sign the form. have the documents forwarded to Health Canada, waitt 6-10 weeks for receipt of your card (you will be notified by phone in about 2-3 weeks).

Thats as far as I've taken it, in addition to writing a letter to my MP and a letter to my provincial health minster. My current options are to push my GP, push the Health Minister or start contacting media. I can also see an out of province doctor in July when I travel to BC or another specialist in my province in August (for an unrelated health issue but this guy is pretty cool).

The benefits of having your card is that it is country wide, and you are legally allowed to possess, use and transport marijuana within Canada.

When you apply, you are asked for your proposed source of marijuana, and are given 3 choices; a) buy from the feds at 5$/gram, c) grow it yourself, and c) have a designated grower. If you buy it from the feds (Health Canada website), you can either have your meds couriered to you (cost is factored into the 5$/gram) or pick them up at your doctor's office if he/she is willing.

A VERY BIG warning; the physicians college in each province has an official stance on the therapeutic use of marijuana. Most doctors in a given province tend to follow this guideline, but are not legally required to.

You have a maximum of 5 grams per day x 30 days that you can buy from the feds at a time on a rolling 30 day basis. If you grow, you are allowed to have 6 mature/6 immature plants at a time and up to 685 grams dried cannabis.

There are some grey areas such as edibles (they aren't mentioned in the legislation), job protection, where you can medicate, etc.

Hope this helps a bit. I'm in the middle of it right now, but I know it's gonna turn out ok.
