Torch movement helps as @Kalessin suggested. If your movement is too quick it might not help as much, try slowing down and see what happens.
In my opinion and experience the best way to avoid hot spots is a faster draw speed. That actually requires a hotter flame, try bumping up the torch length. You would think that would make the hot spot worse but if you increase your draw speed the combination will actually lead to less hot spots.
Take it slow and only bump up the torch one notch at a time. You should be able to get good results with the Honest torch. A fatter flame will make it a little easier but is not required.
