This makes sense, last night while playing around with draw speed I saw most hot spotting when I was drawing slower, but didn't notice the correlation (I was high by that point lol). I'll give this a shot, thanks.

My technique is weird, I guess. I tried using the faster draw speeds like I saw people recommending, but the way I've found I get best results is by using fairly slow draw the entire hit and using the carb to control the temperature

The Bricks certainly need a learning curve for many people (incl. me) so it's probably best to play around a little to find the personal sweet spot based on the contradictory recommendations, which of course all work fine for the people giving these very recommendations. It's a bit like gardening: ask 10 gardeners for advice on a certain matter and you'll usually get 12 different tips.

Took me a while to get the Junior to produce really big clouds from the first toke, and I rarely ever have any combustion or even dark spot. For me it works best with full flame and a pretty slow draw. The feedback I need to adjust is the feeling in my mouth when inhaling (soft and moist) plus the sound the flame makes in the intake when I hold the torch just right. No shit, often it doesn't work the way I want it when I use while listening to loud music, so I can't adjust the angle and distance of the torch by the certain "roaring" jet sound that indicates the correct position. I guess my general problem is that I think too much when I'd rather act on instinct. Still I hit the Brick on a very regular base as nothing else gets me these instant, humongous clouds.

Ok, in addition to "what all the above folks say" here's another tip: you did not mention stirring after every toke, which I think is totally mandatory if you want an even roasting of the entire bowl.

Get the metal disc for $5 bucks, i just did, u can do whatever you want with the flame and u will get good hits

If no disc, use a bigger flame, but not too close to intake, and draw slow

I'm an idiot, I had the flame way too low (which is good if you want to avoid combustion). I turned it as high as it would go last night, got a much fatter flame, and cached out a bowl in a couple of hits. Got very even browning.

I own a SBJ for a while now and no matter what kind of butane I use I just can't rid of the butane taste.
It is really pronounced and the taste is awful, which is a pity because I feel that this vape has a lot of potential and it would be in my regular rotation for sure.

I've tried everything available in my country (which is not much), but all the cans have
NEAR ZERO IMPURITIES label. I even drove to another country to buy "pure" butane, and it
didn't help (I am now stuck with cans and cans of unusable butane).
I ordered some lighters from Dynavap which came full, but it didn't help.

Nobody ships butane over the border, which is another huge problem for me.

What I wanna know, how come nobody here has ever complained about butane taste?

Am I more sensitive to it than others? Or do you use some really expensive butane?
What brand do you use?

@hujdimislav I never taste the butane unless I press it direct from the can without fire. Any idea what kind of wood of your SBJ? Some wood like walnut could have quite strong wood taste and may be confused. time can solve the problem

My SBJ is cherry, most neutral wood taste according to a lot of users.
Unfortunately, it's not that, and I kind of like slightly wooden aromas.
I have the same problem with Vapocane when using direct method,
and Vapocane is all glass.

Hi @hujdimislav !I use Newport or Colibri butane.I only taste butane if I light the torch above the intake.If I light it first and then put it near the intake I don't taste it.

Hey hujdimislav,

I use premium Black Leaf and Newport butane.

There were a few times I tasted butane due to a miss hit...!
Maybe you can also taste butane when your flame is (too) high ...(?)

I've read in the SB threads that just a few people are very sensitive to butane and had/have the same problem as you do.

It would be a big pity if you can't solve your butane problem, because of the greatness of the Sticky Brick vapes!
So I hope that someone has the right solution for you for this fucked up problem!

(At least you can use the 'unusable' butane for your other butane vapes like your vapcaps, vapman, lotus and vaponic...for years...)

Thank you all for your recommendations. If I ever come across some of these brands, I'll sure
give them a try.

I played with some variables that could reduce the taste (flame size, placement of the flame, load, grind) and found out that if I really fill the bowl, butane taste is not so pronounced.

I really like this vape, that is why I feel so frustrated, not getting the best out of it because of one thing,
but unfortunately, a very important one.

But I'm not gonna give this sticky baby up and will experiment more

@Dattisso you are right, it is not unusable, it will fulfill its purpose for years to come, a lifetime for sure

I use Puretane N-butane, triple refined, 11X filtered, 99.9998% pure in a food grade canister.
Best stuff ever. Virtually tasteless. Just Co2 and H2O byproducts as it should be.
I've tried Colibri, it only says premium on the canister, doesn't even compare, way more impurities or butane taste. I just use it for my other torch vapes. Try to use something atleast 9x filtered for sticky bricks.

@hujdimislav what torch(es) are u using? - a triple torch hold in a ~right angle to the intake gives the best taste imo, guess it mixes the air better/burns cleaner that way

I have found it doesn't really matter. People sensitive to butane are sensitive to it no matter how pure.
Other things I've found very important are the torch you're using, and how you're using it. I don't let flame get into the glass inlet... rather I have the flame sort of "push" hot air toward it as I draw. I also believe torches do not all sport the same efficiency, some no doubt have more unburnt butane than others.

I love the Zico Silver Torch (MT-25).
I don't usually get excited about torches, tending to view them as commodities, but this is the most versatile torch I've ever owned. Adjustable from essentially a bic lighter, to a serious dab rig power torch.... and all inbetween. (can make the tiniest precision wide flame for gently loosening reclaim (I like to dab).
And you got it, it's adjustability lets me get the flame part of my SBJ exactly how I want it -- the appropriate flame for how i like to draw. I think I paid $30 for it at a local headshop.

And don't feel bad. Almost everyone struggles for a while with it. It's the closest to combustion experience there is, and what makes the SBJ so much fun, is it is essentially a game -- can I "push it" without combusting? It is the ONLY vape I have when I combust I feel proud rather than like a dumbass

Now a friend came over the other day, and had never tried a SB, so I told him the theory, and on his first draw he NAILED it. I was both proud of him and jealous. It took me a while to master the Brick, but once I did.... it's like riding a bike now.... second nature. But the struggle is real for most in the beginning.

OH, FYI, I'm fairly new here but do want to say, I love the "Mini-Bubbler" (expensive!) attachment. I also use it for carts via a silicone sleeve from a Plenty.

People sensitive to butane are sensitive to it no matter how pure.

Sounds likely, some people's sense of taste is way more sensitive than other's, which I can only guess is more of a curse than a blessing.

Still it would be interesting to know what type of torch @hujdimislav is using. I used a torch once that would dye the flame blue (or green? Dunno...) and even though I used it for combusting in a bong and used a NZI butane, it would still add a slightly nauseating aroma, even for an ignorant schmuck like me. Could that be?

I have over twenty torches, and I did try most of them. Unfortunately, it's not the torch.
Didn't try triple flame at the right angle as @Used2use suggested, that is something that
could work...

Speaking of torches, my favorite is single flame Vertigo's serpent. When at home, it can't be beaten.
Very reliable, quality made, feels good in the hand, big tank, from very small to very big flame, easy trigger.
I use it for all my butane vapes, it never disappoints.

No portable I own does these clouds and the only breakable parts are the glass parts which are easily (meaning relatively cheap) replaceable. It has a certain learning curve for many people though.

I just bought a SBJ and she is definitely a keeper! This thing works insanely good. I did combust a couple times but I am getting better. Looks like there is a lot of good info in this thread, so I have some reading up to do (thanks everyone).

So that first night I got my SBJ, I vaped around 3 bowls I think. I was straight blowed. I woke up the next morning looking all around for my Crafty as that is my road vape, and I couldn't find it in any of my usual spots. I eventually found that I had been sleeping on it. I don't really remember, but I guess I packed it and then fell asleep waiting for the green light That's why on demand rocks!

I wish this thing came with a brush, though. How often do you guys change your screens? It only took me 2 days before the screen was too caked and I had to toss it...I'm guessing it would've lasted longer if I were brushing it out each time.
