Space Case Broken Or...?

I have a 2.5 inch 4-piece Space Case grinder, and have loved it so far. But after grinding up some bud yesterday, the magnetic lid no longer stays shut. Somehow the center magnet in one of the middle pieces popped out, so whenever I pick it up I need to hold it together or else I risk spilling the ground bud everywhere.

I contacted the seller about this. Now the seller claims that the magnet is supposed to detach for "cleaning purposes" and should easily pop back in.

Anyone with a Space Case...is this magnet really supposed to pop out? I'm having trouble "popping it back in", and am skeptical that the seller is correct about this.

The photo below shows the little magnet sitting by the piece that it was detached from.

The magnet should be placed in the center hole with the magnetic side, in this photo, facing the paper. There will also be a magnet on the top piece of the grinder that makes the seal. IME, the magnet has not come loose even when cleaning.

Interesting. What makes you think they share a manufacturing facility? And why should I trust hotboxvapors.com as the Space Case authority?

@tie the magnet should be an interference fit and shouldn't really fall out. It will need to be put in the right way round as it's got a north and south face. Put it in the wrong way and it will just push apart. If you have any engineering knowledge it should be an easyish fix. PM me if you get stuck.

@phattpiggie The bottom line is that the magnet shouldn't have fallen out to begin with.

I now realize I must've purchased a fake. Clues:
*broken magnet
*$48 brand new on eBay!
*no o-ring
*no scraper
*the word CLONE was in the listing! how did I miss that?
*"country of origin: unknown" despite the grinder reading "made in usa"

Let this serve as a lesson to all...fake Space Cases DO exist! If the price is too low, and you notice the clues I've mentioned, chances are you're looking at one.

I'm still PERPLEXED how Space Case is largely considered the gold standard, top tier grinder despite not having an official website or transparent manufacturer. It makes me less willing to pursue buying a "real" one at all, and unsure if they even exist.

Just about everything is 'cloned' these days. People think a hologram is a reassurance they are buying the genuine article. If they can reproduce the product they sure as shit can reproduce a hologram.
It's more than likely still fixable that way you can get your monies worth out of it.

I have spoken to them multiple times.
Because I wanted to satisfy for myself the never ending discussion on whether SpaceCase Titanium grinders are really titanium anodized or not, I called them and asked repeated, pointed questions.

The two companies do manufacturing, sales, shipping, service, etc from a shared facility in Costa Mesa California. The guy I talked to walked into the next building and had me talk to a Machinist. While I am far from an expert, I have some experience with machining and anodizing metals (worked in aerospace for 28 years and have a modest metals shop. I have done limited anodizing myself. Nerds rule!). The guy I talked to seemed legitimate and was very patient and helpful. While they would not divulge the exact process they use, he did confirm that Spacecase Titanium grinders are in fact titanium anodized.

Even though you posted above that your "SpaceCase" is a counterfeit, I've still posted the contact info for others future use. It is odd that SpaceCase doesn't have a dedicated website.

Sorry to hear your grinder is a knockoff.
