So I watched "The Human Centipede" last night...

i stay away from gore/gruesome or just plain dark movies like that (i admittingly know very little about the movie in this thread)...ive seen them before but the feeling they leave you with is usually pretty messed up and life has its own way of making you feel bad at times so i figure there is no point wasting any more time on such thoughts.

That's my perspective. Horror movies are by definition a story about terrible things happening to people. I find it a sad fact that this genre is the most popular, according to some Hollywood article I read. Hollywood follows the money, and people will pay to be entertained watching torture. Same as in ancient times. It's a sad part of our humanity

Haha I have as well, I read about it and curiosity got the better of me. I'm not a fan of horror movies or gore but if it's something shocking I have to see it. Its completely fucked up and unnecessary, but the actor who plays the Dr. is perfect. Theyre actually making a sequel! Another movie that received similar reactions is Antichrist with Willem Dafoe. There is a scene towards the end of that movie I wish I could erase from my mind, much worse than a Human Centipede IMO.

Yeah the "Torture-Rape-Mutilation" thing as a replacement for the horror/suspense genre is a real bummer. Films like SAW have completely destroyed a once entertaining genre. I grew up with little stupid, morbid assholes who loved films like this, and are probably still handing their minimum-wage checks over. I downright HATE R Lee Ermey now after seeing his role in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I know that guy doesn't need more coke money (coke is for the lesser armed forces!), so what's his excuse?
The worse thing about Human Centipede is that Southpark just multiplied their rental audience by 100.
Was anyone else relieved when they shut the two females leads the F up? Their acting, and one in particular (the blonde?), was painfully bad. The doctor was not a bad casting, for sure.

and for the record, one of the main reasons I watched it was because of the south park episode
and in no way did I pay to see this movie, or would I ever. It takes a serious movie like "Hangover 2" or "Step Brothers" for me to pay to see it

I LOLed at this film. The acting was fucking horrendous, and the storyline was sub-par at best. 4/10 maybe 5 due to some of the comedic moments (due to the head not being able to communicate or understand)
Barely a notch above this movie is one called 'Teeth'

I stopped paying attention to Saw after the third movie, because it became just about torture and no story line. It was just easier to create a bloodbath of stupidity and all of Hollywood jumped in on the opportunity to make a quick buck with 3rd rate actors and actresses they could pay little and make a huge sum of money from.
You can't really blame Hollywood completely though, the vast majority of people would rather see a movie that they don't have to use any part of their brain on rather than an intricate plot with a deep story line that requires attention and thinking.

i think this is true...i find most of the movies that i truly enjoy (other than perhaps comedy) typically get very low ratings for being complex or hard to get (for example, the first solaris and "the stalker"). movies like the shining i can watch as the horror depicted is quite realistic even if the plot is a bit out there, but i still prefer not to watch those kinds of movies.
and the trend to keep pumping these kinds of movies out and to "one up" the previous is beyond ridiculous imho, movies need to make a connection with the audience not gross them out, but i realize some really want to be grossed out and boy do they have choices now!

about the only thing that would shock me coming out of hollywood would be a movie similar to "the fox and the hound" with its cheerfulness and warm emotions (and a really pissed off bear) but i know it wont happen. that was my fav movie as a kid, well....and et, duh.
funny now that i mention et (or i could of mentioned goonies id think) is that new movie super8 really reminded me of "feel good movie with suspense as seen from the eyes of kids and a few semi-scary scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat" that i think is missing from todays line up.
i mostly enjoy philosophically based movies (the kind where you have to THINK and pay attention to subtleties just like in real life) but i have to admit that i sometimes get a good feeling from watching older movies that targeted children/kids, be it animated or not. im just far more attracted to positive things i think, but we are all different and i know people who get off on the centipede kind of things.
