Sinus problems when vaping. Anyone else get this?

I bought my Supreme with a view to fucking combustion. I read up a load on here before I purchased my SV and had it shipped over from the states. Sadly it causes my sinuses to block and also gives me a sore throat and cough so I have never really got into vaping :( . I have experimented with temperatures, water etc. I have recently started to combust pure and find it much better (than spliffs), the pains in my chest have decreased dramatically. (I have been a "full time" smoker of tobacco spliffs for 15 years and suspect this has caused some problems)
So, in short, I am indeed fucking combustion.... of spliffs.

@kertong, sorry to hear of your health problems. My symptoms sound similar to yours but I experienced them immediately after vaping rather than 5 years after commencing vapourisation

PS apologies for the disjointed post, (pun intended XD)

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Vaping, my sinuses and chest allow me to expel crap that has accumulated due to smoking cigs, joints, or blunts, allergies, etc, within minutes of being done. So my congestion feels heavy right after, but only until I ummm 'clear'(?) them. I've read that mj is an expectorant, so I suppose its just doing it's job.

My throat always gets sore or irritated if I don't drink ice water frequently while vaping, as my understanding of vapor is that it tends to be quite 'dry'. I find vapor-bonging eases the throat & cough I sometimes experience, especially if I use 'warm' water in my bubbler/bong. Keep in mind though... that I myself have bronchial issues with raw mj to begin with.

Vaping does irritate my sinus some what, not as bad as smoking but sometimes it bothers me a bit. I do saline sinus rinse a lot. Neilmed is the rinse I use but there are many out there. I've had extensive sinus problems, 6 surgeries, etc. Rinsing is the first step and often takes care of everything.

i always had some sinus problems in my life and yes, sometimes i feel it moreso when i am trying to do mainly vaping while stopping cigarettes at the same time, feel like my body is trying to clean out the 'thrash' from too much combustion. at times the effect is less noticeable when i am hydrated. i also do the saline rinse, sometimes occasionally mixed with some woods menthol to ease the breathing passages.

I've always had this problem every now and again since I started vaping, and I still can't figure out why. It only happens sometimes though, so since it only happens sometimes I did control tests with only 1 variable changing at a time. I have pinpointed the problem to the herb I am packing. I think the problem is when the herb has any moisture left, so I would try leaving some nugs outside until they are extremely dry.

Right now Iam vaping on an old bud that is completely dry and most people wouldn't think looks too good, but the vapor is awesome and still flavorful. I also have a recently harvested strain that still has that what you would call dank sticky feel too it, and slightly grassier smell. You would think it's better herb but as soon as I tried it my nose clogged and I got irritating pressure in my ears. I think the old stance of leaving your buds out overnight before vaping might be true!

nope, the sinuses are 100% better now. don't know why or from what but there is a major difference.

Poochka,
I've read quite a bit, most of it personal opinions, concerning congestion and sinus reactions to vapers. When I first stsrted vaping, I use the NO2, I too got the same results and It concerned because using this method is the only real choice for being healthy, that and eating your herb.
Well the simplest solution is usually over looked and to me that meant that my system may be reacting to the plant matter, as I have to use antihistamines daily.
The NO2 has a detachable mouthpiece on the whip, so I took it off and placed a q-tip that I had fluffed, into the whip and replaced the mouthpiece creating a physical filter of sorts. Boo-Yah problem gone, I can actually see the build up on the cotton which I replace evert time I recharge the battery.
I know each person is different, but that simple fix did it for me.

HippedCandy,
Guess this is a good location to post this...

I was a heavy combuster for about the last 3.5 years, about 4-7 grams per week of high grade indoors. I've always had some off and on seasonal type allergies, but recently over the past month I've been having soreness in my sinus areas, primarily right below my ear lobes and along my jawbone. I find this especially odd because over the past month or 2 I've been cutting back to probably the lowest level of consumption I've had in the last 3.5 years (approximately 1 gram a week). I haven't been combusting hardly at all for the last 2 to 3 months either just vaping with my Silver Surfer through a waterpipe to help moisten the vapor (dryness sucks). I've been feeling this soreness off and on even when I haven't vaped all day long.

Okay, long enough story, just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar. I take a small daily dose of Singulair for what I'm told are mild asthma symptoms and I use a prescription nasal spray as well.

I have pretty sever allergies to grass and pollen. I have to take antihistamines or pseudo every day. Living in the Southeast doesnt help either. Grinding and vaping weed makes my eyes turn red and dry, my nose get stopped up instantly and I sneeze constantly if I'm aroud it for too long. Messing with abv really brings this out. Vaping weed makes the roof of my mouth itch like hell, rub it with my tongue constantly after vaping. Smoking doesn't have that effect on me. Its worse if I'm vaping in my car or sitting in a chair or something. Basically I have to move around while I vape or at least sit in a place that I can get fresh air so that I don't react to it.

After I switched to concentrates and stopped handling weed so much my allergies have been so much better. No itching on the roof of my mouth or any of those adverse effects.

To the OP, have you tried to use the warm water technique?
Do you have asthma? Especially hot-cold sensitivity?
Have you experimented with different varieties, possibly ones grown in different conditions?
Have you experimented with temperatures?
Have you experimented with inhalation techniques?
Have you experimented with quantities of material used?
Have you experimented with grinding techniques?

Try and include as much detail as you can, because I have experienced similar symptoms, but have not had consistent results.

I have always had sinus problems, i would say that the top part of my nostrils must be more narrow than they should.

That said, i do notice it get worse if i vape more or if i stop doing my runs or other cardio exercise.

My gf also developed an irritation to MJ, after smoking a joint she would start sneezing imediatly and it happened every time she smoked. It stopped now because she's stopped combusting everything for a month already, and her sinuses cleared.

There was also a former FC member, kertong, who iirc stopped vaping because he would get extreme sinus congestion and other related problems.

What i still don't know if it is related to the plant itself, the process or some compound in particular that some people are allergic to.

EDIT: does someone notice a difference between flowers oils or concentrates? I think my soft moroccan is worse than flowers but maybe it is just my impression.

I think it depends on the person. Some people are more sensitive to smoke than others while I'm allergic to the plant matter itself. Dirt weed doesn't make sneeze, less pollen and plant matter to be inhaled. Crystally dank weed makes my allergies awful, especially when ground up.

Once I stopped handling so much plant matter my allergies have significantly improved. I think its because I inhale less pollen and whatever else comes off of the buds that I can't see.

I tend to think in terms of allergies as the main problem as well, and that is subject to the individual.

After searching a bit, found a lot of people claiming not just sinuses being congested but full on allergy symptoms. Found a guy who had big sinuses problems with smoking but not with eating it so it is not about the compounds in itself, but the particles flying around your throat and lungs and etc.

Well this is all bad news...I have allergies and always have had bad sinus issues. It got worse when I moved to a state that has different types of plants and stuff. I seem to be allergic to some of the trees. I have never been allergic to trees or pollen in my life just other stuff. If vaping is effecting my sinuses I will go back to combusting which will suck. I wonder how we can really find out a definitive answer. I wonder if allergist can eventually test for an allergy to mj pollen.

Now that I think about it since I stopped combusting my sinuses have gotten worse. So that would be from Aug till now which is four months. I am really going to have to think on this cause I haven't been able to breath in the longest even with decongestants and whatnot.

You all just mad me really sad:cry:

Yeah that's why I limit my use of the vape. Like I said in my other post, my allergies have improved significantly since I started making concentrates and dabbing. I don't have any reaction after a hit of oil or playing with it. If I bury my face in a glass pan of unscraped oil and inhale it'll make my eyes water and my nose start to run a little.

I know a lot of people that move to the Carolinas and start experiencing allergies for the first time in their lives because of pollen and other shit in the air here. I'm so sensitive to that if I even drive by somebody that's mowing or just mowed I starts having sneezing fits... It gets me out of mowing the lawn though

I wonder if you use concentrates through something like the new cera if that would make a difference. I also wonder if the Noah could actually answer this for us since he is a doc and moved to this field for our health.

I don't think going back to combustion is any better Dreamerr, combustion has far worse problems. I don't have allergies to anything as well.. apart from the minor intolerances everyone has to gluten, lactose, etc so i don't think i have an allergy to the polen. I was a tobacco smoker for a few years and i smoked my weed with tobacco as well, so my lungs are in recovery since i only vape for 9months.

What i think happens is the frequency and quantity of your vaping habits will eventually cause a body reaction, we can say allergic but it could be just an irritation or something, caused by the particles in the vapour that go into your lungs and scratch the walls of your respiratory system. This is my assessment based in a mix of speculation, personal experience and stuff i read on the web.

I think what we can do is keep using water as much as possible, keep your stuff clean, and some cardio exercise to get the oxigen flowing.

If that is not enough and there is the need or the want for further medication, then i suggest tinctures and edibles.

Lungs I can understand but not sinuses cause that would have to be inhaled through the nose I thought to irritate. I have always had sinus issues and they got worse when I moved here. I don't need to close them off completely cause it is close. I am going to ask a doc so if it is true I want to know the science and anatomy behind it. I like to learn that the same as you all like the mechanical stuff that I don't care about. When doc vape is done sending out all those cera's maybe he can chime in since he is working hard in this field.

I don't really get an irritated throat anymore or I would really be miserable. I have figured out short draws and depending on the vape I am using some other magic tricks to avoid it. The only time I irritate it is when I am out and take longer hits and revape ABV for ease.

If you found any good sites that have a scientific answer post the link please. I mean if we are all saying it then it has a good chance of being true but I have to know why.

I understand your confusion regarding the sinuses, it is my confusion as well.
I always attributed that to the fact that the respiratory system is all conected, you could insert a probe through your mouth and it would reach the top of your nose or down to your lungs, but it might just have a completely different explanation.

I did not find scientific answers, in fact i found an article where a study implied that cannabis helps clear the sinuses (can't find it again yet.), but the anedoctal evidence is that there is something happening to the sinuses due to smoking/vaping cannabis but not eating. Just google "cannabis causes sinuses problems", and you'll find a bunch of other forum threads about this subject.

EDIT: After a bit more research done right now, i found that it could very well be allergic rhinitis.

I get the same problem with the supreme.

To eliminate variables, try an antihistamine like cetirizine to determine whether it is allergy related.

I live on them but I do have allergies just not to pollen. I might have pollen allergies where I live now but didn't go to get an allergy test.

Well I think that might answer my question and now I have to decide what to do. I am highly allergic to molds and mildews as well as dust and dust mites. This is what the test said: Other reactions from smoking marijuana have resulted from contamination of the marijuana with Aspergillus, a mold that commonly causes allergic diseases.

I doubt that the mj has to visibly have mold for this to be in it and that could be one of the causes of my new extreme issues. Now I will have to pick between drugs and mj which works way better but now has side effects as well. Not breathing isn't fun.

I have suffered from extreme headaches since I am a little kid and allergy diagnosis came later. I used to take shots before I moved but it may be time to go back and do that. I am just scared of docs so I don't go. I have server sinusitis since before doing mmj. It is hard for me to pin point if it got worse when I started using mmj or from when I moved. If I have to do a t-break to see I will have to take a mess load of drugs which is never fun.
