Silver Phoenix Atomizer - 510-compatible Convection Vaporizer

Hi FC,

I've been working on this project for a few months now and I've made a thread in the DIY section, but I think I'm finally ready to call it "a vaporizer" rather than a tinkering project.

I start with a Lancia Rebuildable Atomizer for ecig use, and add my own parts in between the base and the top cap. Two borosilicate glass tubes are the main components, and the minor components include screens, silicone o-rings, heatsink, and a custom Nichrome heating coil. The bottom of the atomizer features 4 holes for various "pins" that allow adjustable airflow into the device. The air travels into the base, through the airflow pins, across the hot coil, into the tube, through the product, out the mouthpiece, into your lungs.

Pure convection vaporization...

Benefits of my device:
  • No waiting for heatup (coil will be fully up to temp within 3 seconds)
  • Uses a standard variable voltage/wattage ecig battery available for >$50
  • Coil is rebuildable/replaceable
  • Cleaning is super easy (1 glass tube, 2 screens, and the top cap)
  • Fully adjustable to your own preferences (airflow, screen distance, wattage, coil resistance/size/style)
  • Designed and developed by a long-time FC lurker and poster!
I have a small site setup for people to see more pictures and to contact me if they'd like to be on the preorder list.

Thanks for taking the time to check out the fruits of my labor!

Very impressive! This should make a lot of people who use mods happy. Hell even as someone with zero mod experience it looks pretty intriguing. Always cool to see what an engineer comes up with on here. Good luck!

Would there ever be options for a shorter one?

Where is the herb being placed.

What's the desired voltage or wattage for optimal use? This looks interesting. Got an mvp2 and istick I use for juices, and wouldn't mind a convection atomizer

Looks very nice. Any videos so we can see some usage?

Yes indeed. There are 2 posted in the original post. Here's the links again:

A shorter option will be available in the future. My design ended up with this dimensions because I was using a vapexhale ELB as my material chamber. This dictated the size of the inner tube.
The material for vaporizing is placed above the coil in the smaller glass tube. There is a "basket"-style screen ala e-nano for easy removal and adjustment.

I really like it at around 30 watts. This works out to about 4.0-4.2V on my regulated box mod. If you have an istick that's 30 watts or higher, you're all set. The MVP2 cuts out at around 20 watts and I don't believe it will fire a coil with such low resistance. A higher resistance coil might work, but I haven't done any testing.

Those clouds are nice and I like the heated coil look, reminds me of my FF. How's the taste and about how much can you pack?

Thank you! It's much harder than I realized to get vapor clouds on camera the way they look in person... I like the taste quite a bit, although it's not as clean and pure and smooth as my old Thermovape T1. I think that has to do with the much longer heat-up time on the T1 compared to my device. But all of my friends who have tried it (non-vapers/light-vapers) are blown away by the flavor from an instant-on vape. I'll have to let others decide about taste as it's very subjective...

You can load close to 0.5g in it's current form. I recommend 0.3-0.4 so you can shake it around and stir it so it all cooks evenly.

Ill definitely pick one of these up soon for the persei

I'm not familiar with the persei, but I believe it's a mechanical device in stock form, allowing you to stack 2 18350 batteries in your device, bringing you to 8.4v at full charge, and something around 6.4-6.5v at the end of it's battery life.
This device requires a constant, steady voltage to perform best. It will work on a mechanical device, but the performance will degrade as the battery drains. I use it on my mechanical mod ecigs and it works great... for the first bowl or so. And then the battery has drained below the good vaping point and I'm better off swapping batteries. My regulated mod allows constant 4.2V output through the entire life of battery, so performance is the same until the battery is flat.

Looking at the w9tech site now, you'd need the iris to take full advantage of this atomizer.

Thanks!

Damn guess I gotta learn how to rebuild coils. I'm just about the juice haha. Are you using an ipv in your tests?

Yes indeed I am. IPV2S. Works all the way up to 75 watts.

I'm going to build the device before they're sent. I would totally be willing to send along a few spare coils along with any order that requests it. Took me a while to get good enough at wrapping that damn wire to get an even, clean spiral, but i haven't seen any degradation of my coil, and I'd estimate I've put approx 15-20 loads through my prototype.

I would happily send out replacements to those who have problems, but I don't foresee the coil being as "disposable" as the ones used for e-liquid. In my experiences with rebuildable atomizers for e-juice ,the coils usually need a good cleaning/replacement once the leftover junk in the juice covers the coil and insulates it to the point that I don't get good vapor/flavor. Nothing touches this coil except air, so it should stay pristine.

I LOVE the look of it firing with the glowing coil, as well as the clear glass look. A little long, but very nice. The only thing that throws me is the price, but I'm sure that will eventually go down. Very good work on your design and execution. Looks like you get great performance.

I'm VERY interested in this.

I have been waiting year's for one of these that really works. The Esv is sort of like this but it's not an attachment, And really just made me want something like this more. I don't like the idea of being stuck to one juice tank with the other options, So this would be perfect.

I'm also trying to build a 510 compatible herb vape in my spare time but still on the experimentation phase.

I just have to say you've done your homework very well sir. Wandering what material are you using for the coil and the ohms you're getting so I can save some testing

Clever inner tube btw, isn't it perharps a bit too tall for the irradiation capacity of this scheme?, very nice anyway.

Last update was may , I thought we were going to see some final products. I was very interested in this for a quick delivery method being I have a few miss. I even had the money to the side for it but went with a grasshopper preorder bc I wasn't sure if this is still happening . I'm hoping this is still coming with a nice fc discount for the wait .

I'm also looking for an update. I have sent multiple messages to him on Reddit and emailed him directly about a week ago with no response. I'm hopeful that he will have something to share soon.
