I decided to go and polish an old Northern Lights run I'd done.

The results were somewhat worthwhile you might say!!! :D

So ever since I first saw pictures of terpx shatter, I knew that was the quality of oil I have wanted to make.

Recently, I have stepped up my tech and knowledge to the next level, and forgive me for being self congratulatory, but I think I might have done it!!

I present to you all for your viewing pleasure:

This is a winterized, sub micron filtered (and as such, bacteria/mold/mold spore/anything that doesn't fully dissolve in ethanol free :D) first run from some top shelf THC bomb nugs using some of my newly acquired dab lab skills.

It is obviously an absolute shatter, and is clear as glass with a pale peachy hue.

Apologies for the slightly blurry shot, my camera is great but not at the close up shots and this was an experimental run on a very small bit of material.

I'd say you seem to have your tek down. :)

Harder to achieve those results with ISO than butane in my limited experience.

haha man this one is not for postage unfortunately, you'll have to jump on a flight my friend ;)

It certainly does still have the lemon flavour :D Has a lot less of the diesel flavour that you get with THC bomb though, which actually suits my preference.

The vapour is noticably smoother making huge hits much easier without coughing.

The high is a really clear, crisp heady warm fuzzy feeling :D

Definitely tough brother, some photos of the original QWISO I redissolved in ethanol before putting through the works can be found earlier in this thread somewhere. It was one of the most delicious first runs I've ever made, but did pull a significant amount of waxes out, it was a bizzarre unstable blob which at parts was rock hard shatter and at other parts was scrumptious and complete earwax (not sap, wax!).

I have definitely decided that for me, I want to be only dabbing sterile bacteria/mold free concentrates with no plant material/waxes/chlorophyll, ie winterized sub micron filtered absolute shatters. The smoothness on the throat is noticable when dabbing these concentrates, the clarity of the effect and the dramatic amounts less cleaning needing to be done on the piece and nail are a godsend!

The final frontier is chlorophyll! Wish me luck! :D

To get a gram of shatter I would need to use approx. $125 worth of flowers and hope that my poor skill set can get me what I need. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It is an expensive and risky endeavor sadly.

Ran this yesterday morning, just now pulled it out of the vac.
Grab bag wax - I had almost a half o total of a few strains: Blue Cheese, Black Diamond, Super Lemon Haze, Tangerine Dream and Pineapple Mango. My guy always throws in at least a few extra gs per qp, and they won't fit in the tube so I have been saving them. I decided to do a little mini run.
I got 3.23 g from 13.06 g (not winterized), which came as quite a shock to me. I attribute the high yield to the cold weather. I store my stuff and supplies in an unheated room, and do the run there so that everything was below freezing until the purge.
My last few full runs have yielded more like 10 or 11 g per two oz (same strains listed above) which I was a little bummed about. I did everything the same, but the storage room was hot as Lucifer's taint in the summer and fall so I think the temp did it.

sorry for the crap photo. My hands are shaky and this was the best I could do. This is the biggest piece, 1.9 g

I think freezing my butane and packed tube are definately key to my yields. Also very good flowers helps a lot. Freezing the butane reduces the pressure in the can. The butane comes out much slower (almost just pours out rather than blasts) and allows for longer contact with the flowers.

@DieHard @NickDlow @herbivore21 hey guys- my Tek is pretty low to be honest. I have had mixed success. To be honest a couple of months back I thought I had a method down but I have since gone backwards at a rapid rate. I do either QWISO or QWET runs, either with fresh nugs or AVB. Recently I have been using ISO and I find it much more difficult to get the same results as I do with Ethanol. I need to get my hands on some ethanol but it has been a bit hard to find lately.

My method is something like;
-break up buds and winterizse in a mason jar overnight.
- 30 seconds of vigorous shaking with iso, 3 x 30 seconds shaking with 1 minute intervals with ethanol.
- I have tried a few different filtering methods recently and this is one area I have gone wrong. I recently did a nug run and filtered it too many times. I still got shatter but only about .45 of a gram from over a 1/4 ounce of buds. I was using a basic strainer and coffee filters originally but tried to improve on this. I have multiple strainers of differing size but I realized too much plant material is still getting through. This I need to improve.
- As far as evaporation goes I am basically going natural. I place my container near an open window and sit a fan over top of it and it usually evaporates in a few hours. recently, with the change from summer to winter the evap process is obviously slower but seems to be having an effect on the overall product. I live in a very hot place so for most of the year this is fine. Unfortunately it is now cold and wet.
- I used to have a lot of trouble scraping everything up but now I use a stainless steel container which I like. Anything I can't scrape I can either heat up with a torch and then scrape it or I can sop it up with flowers.

That's it in a nutshell. Pretty basic but I can't risk blowing anything up or pissing off the neighbours. Sometimes my results are good but the last few have been awful. Due to the high price of flowers for me I am reluctant to do another run at the moment. My best return was about 18% and worst is under 5%.
