Rogue 2 vs Lobo question.

I would have posted this in the vaporizer sub which focus on individual devices but I'm not allowed to post there yet for some reason.

Summery: Looking for a battery operated vaporizer with good airflow and quick heat up for around <$200 ish. Portability isn't a issue as I only consume in my home but I'd like a battery operated one so I can take it outside and store it easily in a draw when not using it.

I bought a XMAX V3 Pro last year and have a love hate relationship with it. I love it heats up fast since I'm more of a one/two hit kind of user. I do enjoy a session on the weekends every now and then but generally I prefer a hit or two and continue this throughout the day to maintain. While the V3 pro heats up quick for this the air flow is god awful. Perhaps it's because I'm older but I struggle with the resistance and long deep lung pulls it takes. Since I dip in and out throughout the day I need something that is good for this type of consuming ,wouldn't mind it being good for sessions to, that has good airflow and produces vapor quicker than the V3 because I just can't take the super long deep lung pulls.

To this end I've been eyeing the Rogue 2, Lobo and Solo3. The Solo 3 seems to fit the bill but I have concerns. It seems like some have issues with the flower falling out of the stem and into the oven where it burns in the oven and makes a mess to clean. Additionally, the stem has that built in glass screen which people say is very restrictive but they might make other stems? The final thought on the Solo is they now have a Version 2 of the solo 3 where they have fixed the operating system to provide a better experience. I was going to get one but POTV wants over a hundred more than the V1 (on sale) for generally nothing more than a software update and usb-c interface. It seems absurd. I might have wait on this.

The Lobo and Rogue 2 seem fairly close. The Lobo seems to have better airflow and the Rogue 2 heats up quicker. I was wondering if anybody here has used both and perhaps even has a XMAX V3 can chime in? Is the Rogue 2 as bad as the XMAX? The Lobo seems to have a larger bowl which is nice. The Rogue 2 a bigger battery but built in.

I own a Volcano classic since 08 that is still gong strong. I love it, it hits fairly hard and great taste. I'm tired of having it laying around on my desk and the bags and I generally don't do sessions as much. I bought a pax several years ago and find it hot, harsh and it stinks so bad. My XMAX doesn't have any residial odor after being turned off where the pax would stink up the room. Anybody that has owned one knows.

I'm curious to what you guys might recommend and thought I'd join and ask.

Thanks, for the input!

No one can post there, that's only for actual vaporizers, each product has its own thread there, members can create product threads in the upcoming section, then they will be moved once released... This post is actually a question for the Ask FC section, btw

Lobo and Rogue are both probably better than V3P in the way you want, although personally I prefer the glass stem system with solo (I keep mine upside down and don't use the stock stems anymore though) as I'm not such a fan of capsules or loading chambers like that, I also don't like the mouthpieces, my roommate has the lobo and we use the glass stem from the old fierce so it is more like a solo in use, upside down on a hook... Welcome to FC!

Oh have you looked at the artisan style, specifically I would recommend exploring the firewood, FW9 and new X perhaps

While you may get better airflow in one versus another, I see all those chinese battery vapes (V3pro, lobo, starry, rogue, fury, etc) as being basically similar. You're probably not going to be astounded by any of them over what you already have. I don't mean to say that they're bad vapes, in fact I have a Fury 2 and a Starry for travel purposes. They're have their purpose, but not extraordinary for something different, better, or a step-up for someone who vapes every day. This is just my opinion, other's mileage may vary.

I agree with @Shit Snacks that in order to break into a upgraded category I would consider something a bit less plastic and chinesey that gives you a better experience in terms of vapor quality. You'll have to spend closer to $300, but you'll get better bang for your buck with something like a Firewood.

I would also highly recommend a Tinymight 2 to really step up your game and level of enjoyment. With the 420 sales, now is a great time to get a good price on something quality. Normally they are around $350, but maybe someone will have at least 10% off somewhere. It's more than you wanted to spend, but you'll feel like like you gone to heaven going from a V3pro to a TM2.

Thanks for the reply. The V3P leaves me air starved since it takes such a long lung pull to get it going and it's a restrictive one at that even with no screen in the upper mouth piece and my flower coarse ground. I do use caps but even without them it's still restrictive. For me, it's like trying to get the siphon from a hose started ...the old school way. I wish S&B had a on demand product, I really like my volcano. Assuming they still have the same quality.

Thanks for your input.

Yeah that is relying on the pure convection aspect, which I think is much worse with a capsule, takes even longer... TM is pure convection on demand but is much faster and more powerful, you will still need to take enough of a hit to create the vapor, but it can be shorter for sure... However that is why I was suggesting FW instead since it is a hybrid that you can use more conduction (I like to take long slow draws with mine though so I have my temp settings run really low, you just might like higher temps for quicker shorter hits)

I've had the Lobo for a week now and feel it's vastly inferior to my (admittedly favorite electric portable) V3 Pro. If you want more airflow and fast heat up times you will not be happy with the Lobo. It has more restrictive airflow than the V3 Pro, 50+ second heatup times, and hotter vapor.

I'm excited to try the Fury 3 and Tinymight 2 this month once I get them in hand.

The V3P I run at 370F as anything over is too harsh on my throat. This is why I was thinking a LOBO or Rogue 2 might work since they are a hybrid, according to Grok, lol, the Rogue 2 is about 50/50 on convection and conduction. That should help make the hit more of a hybrid between mouth to lung and direct to lung..right?

I really like the TM2..it's just that price. Isn't the TM2 also known for being fragile? I like to smoke cigars and have a glass of scotch on the weekends, outdoors, and would hate to drop that and have the internals break. I'll look at the FW to. I wish the Angus Enhanced wasn't plastic and that it had on demand.

As much as I want to support potv, I'm strongly considering utilizing their 100 day return policy so I don't foist this on someone in the exchange. Maybe I got a bad one?

Looks like the FW has a new model coming ..their website says coming soon. Anyways does the FW or TM stink up the place like a pax? I don't know why the pax does that, I've had two and they always stink when not being used. My V3P doesn't do this. I mean you can smell the avb smell a little if you smell the stem but the pax would stink up the room after I got done and it just sat there.

That's essentially useless information spat out by a dumb machine, I would recommend not using it for this (or other things, for many reasons, largely environmental is enough imo but also clearly bad responses)

Not really, false misconceptions, if your clumsy with stuff and drop glass stuff maybe but there's options, do you drop your glass of Scotch? You could drop anything and it could break anytime... So maybe don't have nice things ever? That's for you to decide, I think it's well worth it, never had a problem, even dropped my original without issue once way back when indoors from the couch on hardwood floor... Anyway some might argue FW is more durable, but anything is at risk in a drop potentially random luck, maybe some of these mainstream plastic units are more durable, but I don't really think so... And I just think they're nowhere near as nice if the goal is vapor quality primarily, but even more benefits really.

(I would stay away from Angus regardless of that, personally do not trust the company, but that's for you to decide)

Looks like the FW has a new model coming ..their website says coming soon.

Yes that is the x that I mentioned, you can skim backwards in the thread to see the latest on that and the FW9 and decide if you might want to try to snag one of the last ones of those instead... The new one will have drops once or twice a week, I think as it is finalized, early adopters are still testing so minor changes rolling upgrades? It is lower priced than TM and I don't think as reliant on aftermarket stems or other glass pieces the way I rely on with my TM personally

Anyways does the FW or TM stink up the place like a pax? I don't know why the pax does that, I've had two and they always stink when not being used. My V3P doesn't do this. I mean you can smell the avb smell a little if you smell the stem but the pax would stink up the room after I got done and it just sat there.

That would depend on the style of heating and use, Pax is specifically bad because it is using old school session conduction, you stuff the chamber, then turn it on and it is constantly cooking for you almost like a joint, it's making vapor regardless so it is also using a larger amount so it is constantly cooking that and it is cooking it deeper sometimes perhaps even overcooking it depending on the temp etc and time, classic stinking up a room style with those... Rogue and Lobo are session style so a little similar except that they are more hybrid with more convection and smaller amount etc, however with the radiant heat and everything they really do cook as you go without you inhaling too, so they will stink but dissipate a bit better, so definitely stinky in use I would argue depending on temp of course...

Not sure how you were using your V3P, it is a bit more interesting hybrid because the session mode does better at emulating that session conduction, hybrid a bit better, however using true on demand clearing hits of vapor and heat with each hit, that is more efficient and typically going to help you keep the smell down... So it is the on demand use, true on demand (it's worth noting that something like the Solo 3 has on demand mode, but really it is like micro session manual control mode, with V1 or V2, different control available to you, but same thing) I just think it is a bit of a misnomer is all, as similarly in the TM you have session mode, which is really more like an auto fire that's holding the button down for you, making it difficult to clear your hit of the heat and vapor unless you power it down or remove your stem with the load chamber...

That's what I mean when I say the V3P is a bit better at emulating both because it is small and the design allows for it, Roffu I think is a little versatile as well though perhaps a bit more convection on demand style, but again depending how you're using it so it definitely could be more session and more hybrid too... You see comparing these devices is far from universal as each one is pretty relative to itself, though there are similarities depending on the units, each one is pretty different generally across these I am describing, so try to remember that for things like temp control settings especially

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. It gives me some things to consider as I narrow things down. I'll say this, not trying to stir something up, Grok is pretty bad ass, you should run mathematical equations though it. Also, I've used it to write complex scripts in bash and python and it almost nails it.

Again, thanks for your input as it's appreciated!

If you like puffing on a cigar, then you might like a dynavap, like the M7XL, with an induction heater. It gives you the option of doing mouth pulls like smoking a cigar or joint. My father prefers a dynavap for that reason. It is very similar to the ritual of smoking a cig or puffing on a joint. That would be conduction vaping tho.

Most vapers here go through a dynavap phase, and like me, come back to it every now and then because it is such a unique and enjoyable experience. I like to use mine with a @Pipes portable induction heater. Dynavaps don't smell very much as long as you wipe them out every now and then.

I enjoy a good single-malt scotch with a session, but have to be careful because my high can get magnified. Right now I have a bottle of the Classic Laddie that I keep reaching for.

Seconding dynavaps (and similar devices), they aren’t my favourites but they’re basically indestructible and are great for when I want something closer to a joint. Only real downsides are that they don’t taste the best, and the titanium tips tend to require a few heating cycles to finish a bowl if that could be an issue for you (the M7 is stainless steel which takes longer to heat, but I usually can get a full extraction in 1-2 heats vs 3-6 for the ti tips).

Could also look at the Dani fusion, Vestratto Anvil/Tornado, Madheaters Tempest (think there’s at least one other I’m forgetting) if you want a device that’s more tuned for 1-2 heat extraction with better flavour than a dynavap. Can’t really go wrong with any of the dyna styles though, and the M7 is the cheapest entry point, especially since it’s probably going to be on sale soon (if it isn’t already).

I decided against ever owning anything like a dynavap awhile ago, I was reading a thread on reddit about them and some guy was telling the story about how he watch this guy heat one up and accidentally stick the hot end in his mouth. I'm assuming impaired, hopefully. lol I've done that with a cigarette when I was young and smoked. Sometimes while enjoying my cigar the scotch flows more than I'm aware of...I'll play it safe and just use something battery powered.

I do want a ruby twist or something for in the house at some point.

Fair enough! Yeah, I’ve never done that personally, but I’ve definitely nearly done it to my spouse when I handed them my tempest upside down the first time we used it. It’s not much of a risk for me now that I’m used to them, but definitely good to know about yourself!

I'm surprised they don't mix in some neon paint during the casting to color the hot end.

Not sure how much that’d help, burns like that usually happen if you aren’t paying attention or aren’t processing visual information. More colour would be welcome though!

With my almost burn it was with my purple tempest where the mouthpiece was purple and the hot end was bright silver. We only avoided the burn because my spouse felt the heat radiating off the hot end before trying to take a draw.

I'd assume most of these happen at night which is why I was thinking something neon that might have some reflection. But, I'd have to kindly disagree with you; I bet your spouse would have picked up on the mistake had you not self corrected. I'd wager a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Probably true for at least some folks. Most of the stories I remember from this forum were folks who got used to using the device by muscle memory, but then got distracted and picked it up the wrong way round, or folks who handed it to a friend without telling them to toke the end with a hole in it.

Making the ends more visually distinct would probably help until the pigment burns off, but won’t ever stop accidents. Would also give folks another reason to collect more caps!

S&B "on demand" portable is the Venty.
If you like the Volcano and also it's flavor you should consider it.
It's ready in 20 seconds instead of 2 but the airflow is great and it's probably the greatest airflow you can get on a portable vaporizer in 2025, by far.
Imho Fury 2 airflow is a bit restricted but the vapor/air ratio is great, while on the V3pro the airflow seems to be wider and a bit better than the F2 but the vapor/air ratio is disappointing, long draws to get not that much vapor.
Otherwise if I was you, I'd just keep that Cano on all day, load it with just a pinch of weed and inflate a bag with just a couple of hits' worth every now and then.

If I decide to go with a lesser cost one I've been really eyeing the Rogue 2. The higher cost ones in my view were the Hex and Solo 3. I thought the Venty was said to have a lot of issues ,mostly battery related, and really hard to clean? How does the Venty compare to the Solo 3?

Whatever I get I'd like to get cool vapor that taste decent like in my volcano classic, my lungs just can't take the heat anymore and the headaches from coughing. I'm getting up there in age ..guess these things happen. My V3P makes me cough a lot if I inhale long enough to get a good hit and I generally run about 370F.

While I'd like it to be quick to heat I'd say the V3P heats up in about 20sec and that good enough for me.

I've read through the thread and I think you might be well served with the hybrid heating of the Solo3 - or maybe even consider an Arizer Air Max and stay under budget. Convection vapes like the V3P can be harsh on the throat due to the length of the pulls you need to generate vapor.

A session with an Arizer vape starts out convection leaning but quickly becomes hybrid with some conduction once the glass gets hot. Because of this, it won't be as hard to generate vapor and you can draw for a shorter time with thicker vapor. If you pay a little more for the S3 then you'll also have the on-demand modes which are really just like short sessions, and they're great for when you want to hit-it-and-quit-it. The S3 also shines at low temps (340F and below) and the glass stem system brings out great taste with less heat while being easy to clean. It should blow away the V3P for taste, although not really a fair comparison.

I always use my S3 upside-down to eliminate any chances of flower falling into the oven but the risk is kind of overblown. If you really want to use it right side up many people just place a screen on top of the flower to be safe. Honestly, I used to just tamp the bowl gently and never had any problems back when I didn't invert it. Another benefit of using it upside down (with the WPA) is you can guarantee the level of cooling you want by attaching it to a nice glass pipe or stem.

Lastly, convection vapes struggle with concentrates so a hybrid vape like the Arizer is something to consider if you use them or plan to in the future.

Edit: Forgot to mention that there are alternative stems and WPAs that don't use glass screens. Highly recommended to get the best airflow.
