RezBlock /Cranberry Extract

Assuming its safe, would you vape through anything other than water if it offered some benefit?

I use the color of the water as a gauge. You don't want it to be a really dark red or too light in color either. Just a nice medium red. 70ml of water should require maybe 2 or 3 drops but I'm guessing.

I have never tried liquid citric acid but I bet it would work really well. To bad the page was in German so I couldn't read it.

Thats their homepage, you have to select your language in the top right corner.
Idk if it's useful in any way, but maybe dosing is easier with that measuring cap. :freak:
Seems to be a little more expensive that way though.

edit: Oh, and thanks for your answers btw :D

Folks,
Just a chemistry facts FYI:
Citric Acid is a powder at room temperature.
The only way to get "liquid citric acid" (without melting at high temperature) is to dissolve it in something.
There is no natural "liquid citric acid" form of the compound at room temperature, only dissolved citric acid powder in water or other solvent.
If you want "liquid citric acid", buy Citric Acid powder and stir to dissolve into room temperature distilled water until no more will dissolve into solution.
You will save money too... :)

You're right, apparently this citric acid solution is 50% concentrated. Just found that on their site.
This makes me think that you could prepare a bottle of this solution with the powdered citric acid (at a lower concentration of course) and just have it ready instead of making it each time you refill your piece.

@t-dub I probably didn't express it very well, but my concern wasn't the dissolving part. It was actually meant as a more convenient way to refill your piece, as in:

1. fill with citric acid solution
2. add cranberry extract

instead of:

1. fill with water
2. add/dissolve citric acid
3. add CE

Might be worth it for the guys who change their liquid more frequently.

This link is dead for me...

So, being a committed (maybe I should be) CE user I have gotten in the habit or dumping and refilling my glass daily to avoid any growth in the water. Not a big deal, but I WOULD rather get at least another day out of it. So, I finally broke down and bought some citrus acid (Ball brand for canning) and put about 1/4 t in the water and shook it up before adding the CE.
First day was fine but I noticed on day 2 I was already seeing some growth. Shouldn't the CA have stopped that? It wasn't as much as with only water, but it was enough that I didn't want to use it.
Is 1/4 t not enough? It's only 2 or 3 oz of water and I use about 6 drops of CE...

It depends on the volume of liquid you are treating. The way citric acid works is it lowers the PH of your vaping fluid so bad guys cannot grow in it. So you can either add more until you get your desired results (this is the easy way), or, you can start measuring the PH of your vaping fluid to see where its at (which is the harder way). I found a PH of 4 pretty good when I was using my water ionizer to make acidic water for my original experiments, YMMV . . .

In truth, because of the small amount of water it can get kinda dirty after a couple days anyway so 2 or 3 days would be the most you want to go before replacing the water, but the citric acid does make that possible.

Hey @t-dub had a question for ya if ya don't mind.

So I just bought this new cranberry extract off amazon, as it seemed to be much cheaper than the nature's answer extract I usually buy. It was this stuff here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0723FB1T6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

It seems to have pretty much the same ingredients as the natures answer stuff and no alcohol but this seems to have more of an orange color to it and when I pour the stuff in with the citric acid the water is staying more of a clear color instead of turning the usual pinkish color. Was just wondering if this stuff might be no good after all and if I should just go back to buying my usual nature's answer.

I see from the ingredients that this tincture is 50%-60% vegetable glycerin. Thats why the color is off, a lot less active ingredients. It seems they are marketing this as a dietary supplement. I would stick with NACE or BCCE.

Time to get some more CE. I have always gotten the Botanic Choice brand, but the Natures Answer brand has bottles on sale cheap on Amazon right now (and free shipping of course). If I remember correctly they are virtually identical, but I just wanted to ask first before ordering...
BC has a BOGO at the moment at $10, so about a buck cheaper than AZ but the shipping makes it about $5 more for 2 bottles.

Is there a refined recipe that people have been using to make their own rezblock? I kept up with this forum for a while but never got around to trying rezblock or the diy version. Now I've got some citric acid and Natures Answer cranberry extract and I cant seem to find a recipe and feel like I'll mess it up if I just wing it.

I just use the CE. I find my nose much less forgiving these days and I change the water every day so I don't need to preserve it. I shudder to think about how long I kept it back when I was combusting...

Just use enough CE to make your water a medium red. A little citric acid will help as well, lowering the PH to help keep things clean, you wont need too much.

I shoud have documented these amounts when I was experimenting . . . however . . . life changes came in at the same time so my efforts were not as focused as they should have been.

I bought some citric acid just to see if adding a little might allow me to keep the water an extra day or two. It didn't improve the odor or cloudiness enough to make any difference for me, so I hot water rinse and replace the water every day.

I'm tending to use my smaller water pieces these days so the requirement to replace the water may be exaggerated/amplified by its small volume. A much larger piece with more water might last an extra day with the citric acid help, but not what I'm using. YMMV

So there was a significant difference in price between CE from Botanic Choice and Natures Answer brands this time, so for the first time I ended up with Natures Answer. I am kinda disappointed. The CE from NA is nowhere near as dense/concentrated, so I need nearly double the number of drops to get the same color/concentration as my BCCE.
Are other folks experience the same or did I get a bad batch? I had always heard they were nearly identical...

So I ordered some CE from Botanic Choice when I started my last bottle of Natures Answer, and they just arrived. I got them from Amazon and they have an expiration date of 6/2021 so obviously Amazon isn't sitting on stock.

It is interesting but I can't find an EX date of the Natures Answer bottles.

So, just to summarize this thread in case folks don't want to read the whole thing, the thread began as a discussion of RezBlock, a retail bong water supplement meant to help keep bong glass clean, made and sold by 420Science (and resold by others). The questions were:
1) Does it work?
2) If it does work, why does it work? and It's very Pricey
3)Is there a cheaper alternative that works as well?

Rather than just a casual discussion, many of the players here were serious about this and used :science: and the scientific method for a fairly detailed investigation.

Early answers were that it definitely did seem to work and allowed cleaning needing little more than hot water rinses. Several other methods and products were discussed but it seemed clear that the leading contender for ease of use and effectiveness in a bong water additive was RezBlock. It was just kinda expensive.

Then starting around page 16 it was discovered that Cranberry Extract (from Natures Answer) (NACE) seemed to also work extremely well, and was suspiciously similar in many ways to RezBlock, while being WAY cheaper. And not too long after that someone found Botanic Choice Cranberry Extract (BCCE) which was nearly identical to NACE. These products could be had at dramatically lower prices than RezBlock.

@Vitolo was involved in this now and continued the testing, and at some point he brought the RezBlock and the BCCE to a chemist to compare them chemically, and he found that they were identical. While the quantities of the different components within these products (cranberry juice concentrate, vegetable glycerine, citrus acid and purified water) may be slightly different, the components seem to be the same.

I have been a believer since I first started reading this thread, and use BCCE in virtually every glass piece I use with water. It has really made my glass cleaning life easier without breaking the bank. Some people make adjustments like adding more citrus acid to slow bacteria growth, but I find the smell and taste after a day are too much for my post vaping sensitivities anyway so I change my water daily. YMMV

I only mentioned @Vitolo, but many others including @t-dub, @Caligula, and @pigfoot and @BigDaddyVapor and others were involved in nailing this baby down. Thanks to all of you.

tho I would love to hear why you think it would be safer.
It is safer because I can get the lemon from the tree in my back yard and do not have to go to the front yard mailbox to get the CE, it is bad enough having to answer the front door for the delivery of my latest bong.:2c:
