Reclaiming

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this. I have a Toro Macro XL, and it seems to claim up much faster than any other rig I've had. I tend to wash it out with ISO every other week. I thought about reclaiming it instead of throwing it down the drain (Literally!). The last time I tried this, I just let the oil/iso mixture sit by a window, and it never "fully purged". I still smelt alcohol and saw a clearish-cloudy liquid suspended in the oil. What is the best method the reclaim a piece? This is what my rig is at now, and would like to do it at this point.

I have hard water so not too worried about reclaiming everything(cal builds up), but I can get a good bit with a well bent paper clip. mix it in a little iso filter and evap. then wash the glass in dishwashing powder. If you don't mind the evap time and using lots of iso you could fill the piece and soak, then filter and evap.
hope this helps a bit

What percent iso are you using? Would that affect the quality/possibly have to do with the left over water/residue? I did use 91%. Might get some 99%. I'm just looking to dab the oil, not cook with it or anything else.

99 is better, but 91 is fine just takes a bit longer to evap ( 8% more water), your on the right track main thing is to fully evap the iso, I use a small fan blowing over it and heating pad under as long as it doesn't sparkle or crackle when you dab.
just reread your post the cloudy liquid you had during evap is what I get toward the end of an evap, at this point most of the iso is gone and that 9% water is left, at this point if you can add heat around 100f this will get rid of the water in no time

exactly what @Blazein5 said...just make sure you really watch the temps...do not go over 110*F and clpser to 100 is better. If you start smelling good smells then you have gone too far but if you catch early enough you don't lose much.

I just keep coming back to this video and am just befuddled... How the fuck does he make it look so easy??

How come the reclaim in this video below falls right off the glass, but when I try I have to add salt and shake like hell to release the residue? I want these results so bad...

Does it help to previously have used Rezblock?

Ended up just holding the piece upside down and and heating the stem enough for the oil to drip out. Got a fair bit. But I'll definitely try adding a little heat when I do a full reclaim with iso.

I pour 91% ISO in my Peice and just shake the piss out of it for a good fifteen minutes and that always gets the majority of everything. I pour that into my Pyrex, then pour another bit of ISO in and shake again, and by then it's as clean as the day I bought it. I then proceed with the ISO in my Pyrex the same exact way I would a butane run, in a hot water bath at 110° until it stiffens to the desired consistency. Works like a charm and prevents complications at the end if the evap from the water present in the concoction, which is the milkiness that you refer to.

Just an off note, never EVER put salt into your ISO that that you plan on using to clean AND reclaim, not a good idea to smoke sodium...

Never tried to reclaim yet, just cleaned with the salt... it makes it clean real quick, less than 2 mins. I may try reclaiming in the future, but I typically do not let much residue build up on my oil piece (nothing near as much as seen in the first post).

Word! I'm doing a run today, so I might have to give the heat purge a try.

I've been fooling around with e-cig hardware, noticing that BHO and reclaim dissolve well in hot Propylene Glycol, but not at room temperature. I then started taking hits of PG through my glassware, and regularly do this now at cleanup time. The hot PG vapor loosens up - I dare say strips - the reclaim off the stem, which falls into the water. I'm sure hot alcohol works better, but I can't inhale it, and I need to use manual transfer (my lungs) to move air and vapor around glassware. I'm comfortable inhaling PG, YMMV.

I eventually end up inhaling all my reclaim, and am okay with PG contamination.
