Howdy all,

First post ever here on FC. AcanthaceaeCapable40 from Reddit as I recognize a few folks from over there.

Just recently picked up a Splinter V2. I think the stems are likely not the ones that came with the device originally, device says V2284 on 510 connector. It looks to be Walnut, 2 airholes, and 19/22 and I read that Walnut Splinters were US made and not China. Just wanting to know a little more about the history of this vape.

First 510 ever.

Don’t know how to post pics but I can share pics if necessary.
The V2 is only ever blackwood. If it's walnut and has a thick glass joint it could be the og Splinter which would indeed be US made. The earliest have a squared edge on the bottom (i.e. no bevel). A pic would guarantee a proper ID.

Welcome to FC and congratulations on the pickup! Snag a Splinter Z at some point if you like your regular Splinter.

My understanding is that the walnut Splinters were custom made by Ryan and preceded the made in China v1-2 series. They are 19/22, so they take pretty much any 19mm stem, though, as @Shit Snacks says, always check to be sure due to variances in glass. I have one of these myself and it's a great little vape. Congrats on landing a collector's item.

Walnut would be pretty rare, maybe earlier early batch, but those were maple and cherry, maybe there were some walnut, hard to remember... If you're sure it's a regular splinter, and not a Z, then it would have to be an early US splinter, but it sounds possible you are miss identifying the wood (blackwood ZV2 has a lot of different colors and looks, so can bubinga ZV1) without a photo I can't say for sure really anything...

That’s what I gathered from having read this thread as it was mentioned sometime last year, but I don’t recall that example having a serial number on the bottom which is what threw me off. And yeah, its totally squared off on the bottom.

I’ll get some pics up soon.

Thanks for the kind welcome all.

Not a V2, but from an early run of RBTs own making. I think they were maple but I'm not sure about the wood, it does look more like walnut. I have one from that same period. Mine is number V2331. If I recall correctly Ryan was short on cash and pushed these out in a hurry (at a sale price) without rounding the edge of the mated side.

That triangle stamp at the bottom is pretty sweet. As a long time Floyd fan I gotta say the logos definitely grabbed my attention.

This is the setup currently being rocked. Milaana has been set to the side for the moment.

Oh, yeah, that's a way to tell that you have an older one, the serial number was actually an early US thing, I forgot! Pieces of history

That logo is actually called a Shotkana. Hindu symbol The 3 triangle and the dot is Ryan’s version, and the box has the Dark Side logo.

Ryan hand drew this one.

Thanks for that, I will go down that rabbit hole later as that sort of emergent quality/nature that imbues new levels of meaning to things I otherwise found to be rather trivial or unimportant are things I want to delve into very mindfully.

On a less philosophical note my Milaana box does not have a Dark Side reference as I thought it would and my Splinter brought no box and that saddens me the tiniest bit…

Just got my first splinter z today with a mod with arctic fox installed. The settings that came on it are 55W .42ohms locked and 340f. I have never used TCR only wattage mode and pretty much always use 36w. Would these TCR settings be a good place for me to start?

Those settings sound right to me. I would bump it up to at least 350 though, which is my min on my V2, or 390, which is what I usually max out on.

I prefer tcr. You can get mostly similar results on wattage but it takes more mindfullness, and autofire doesnt work nearly as well.

My device senses the resistance. @.25ohms and I dialed back the watts to 53 and the temp to 403. Should I up the ohms even though it reads that as the resistance of the atomizer?

As a “never used 510” guy this TCR thing is nice bc it’s more like the herb-vape displays I am accostomed to.

This particular Splinter seems to have a slight hot spot, but its cool cause I just revolve the stem and get fresh(er) hits as I go.

I really am very impressed with how effortless and on-demand the vaping is…

Why did I just get into this now. After so many hundreds spent?

Is TCR really that much better then wattage mode? I mean I've never had an issues with wattage unless I just know what I'm missing out on with TCR 🤷🏽‍♂️

This debate comes up often here if you want to skim back through the thread, I just finally took out my original canary Z that is still set up wattage on surmyevic gen3dual to test something, still works phenomenally well even though I have temp control set up with all my others... There's a lot of options here!

To me wattage is like using a Milaana with a half charged battery. You set a maximum and pull thru it with no need to button pump.

TCR is like cruise control.

By the way. Sometimes I still like to drive a stick. But not in traffic.
