Been doing to oven-dried for long time, think I am ready to step up and also those dehydrator, you can get them very cheap! There is smokehouse options for the jerky, if it is on the gamy side. Never done dried apples, but that would be a good place to start. I figure. More control of how thin to go, etc. Or find out if they cure on their own or have that freshly dried taste. That range to play with. Pears aren't as firm as apples by their structure. Something to KIM.
Dates and raisins were in most of my searches for DIY bars. I'm thinking maybe golden raisins might offset the richer more molasses side of Dates.
Tons of DIY dehydrator info out there. Good and bad. Lots of different designs for the ones on the market. Or the lowest heat setting in an oven/ toaster oven under the right conditions. Depending how much you plan on getting with.
Probably cheaper then my "oven drying electric bills"
My wife not happy with me leaving the oven on for hours at the time
But you might be right about the pears thought I have some harder types also but they are not very nice until right before the basically spoil
Like my pears soft and sweet
