Prednisone is the devils drug.
Yes long term it sounds like it's horrible. But I have read about 5-day therapies that give the immune system enough of a rest to start functioning normally again, if the underlying issues have been addressed. Big if.

Shit.. @grokit .... you too!?
It's the hernia repair that I had ~3.5 years ago, I haven't had a well day since. In fact it's what lead me here, as my tolerance for combusting went out the window pretty quickly as my medical use ramped up. If anybody wants to know wtf is happening to me just search for autoimmune hepatitis + surgical mesh. It's pretty fucked up and the worst part is that it's so hard to find anybody that even understands within the medical/insurance-industrial complex. Even so a whole new surgical specialty has risen to remove surgical mesh. I want to get fixed but the surgical procedure sounds horrible. If removal is even possible.

I want to get paid too, as I have already lost valuable years of my productive life and my overall life will probably be shortened. Good luck with that one, as I'll be lucky if I can even get my condition officially acknowledged and treated. There is no cure for this, only control through drugs and lifestyle modifications, and if that fails then a liver transplant. Reportedly there is no cure for the associated skin condition that's been driving me crazy pretty much the whole time either, it's called Adult Linear IgA Dermatosis.

Best possible news! Will have stereotactic radiosurgery, 3-5 treatments starting next Wednesday, Sept. 21, every other day going at longest through Friday, Sept. 30...less if fewer than 5 treatments are needed.

My mask and pillow were molded today. Need one more MRI first because one spot may be an old stroke or inflammation and not require radiation. The neurosurgeon works with the same nice radiologist who treated me in 2013 for the lymph node metastasis and will treat this, too. No need to see the neurosurgeon again for 2 months...and every 2 months for MRIs to check on progress for the foreseeable future. Of course, will see the oncologist for regular blood tests, too.

The spots are "very treatable." There may be some side effects like nausea and headaches which can be handled with medication should they occur. What a relief!

At the grocery store with my mother and she's talking to a woman at the checkout who says "wait 'til your my age and your body starts failing, I'm 76 and was fine until I retired".

My mother just smiled and said "I know dear, getting old is hard".

My mom is 90.

I'm working on something I feel bad about, but...

My mom is great. She made me the decent man I am today. (Nowhere near perfect, but I'm trustworthy & try to ask nobody for anything.) So mom should have had a much better life than she has had. She gives 100% to everything. Many people have used that relationship model to show her back the remaining 0%. She hasn't deserved the physical or mental abuse she has seen. So mom is great.

Mom is also near 70, in terrible shape and her knees are shot. She uses the knee pain as an excuse from even trying to exercise, but still says she knows she needs to. She also seems to value ANYTHING her kids do for her. (An example is I had to argue with her to get rid of a TV I bought for her. I bought a replacement that is much nicer. She wanted to put the other in her already hoarder-esque basement, where it would never be watched. She said it meant something to her because I got it for her. Talked her into accepting the new gift & donating the old set to a shelter in the neighborhood she grew up, so other people could enjoy it.)

So with that background (sorry if it is lengthy, I'm stoned!) here is what I'm working on. I want my mom to live a better life where she is in better shape. I think she wants it, but has no idea how to motivate herself. I used to work with a guy who lives near her whose wife is a personal trainer. I have reached out to him, and intend on hiring his wife as a personal trainer for my mother, THEN informing her of this after I have already paid for a number of sessions up front. Merry Christmas, mom. I paid for this gift. Your accepting it is letting someone help you to get to where you can walk without a cane & fear of falling down.

As a fellow senior , I would be appalled if my kids tried to knock the pipe out of my hand, changed my admittedly poor diet and forced me to exercise. Sounds more like prison than Golden Age. I think you are have trouble accepting Mom's mortality. While sad for those of us left behind I find great solace in there being a finish line. When I retired, the last year at work was nothing but a giant parade to out the door. Senior living is quite a bit like that. I love everyday and consider it overtime.
I think you gift had good intentions but lacks in consideration of Mom's wants, and needs.

So in closing "You ain't the boss of me, even now in old age!"

I just recalled one of the best pranks I was ever a part of.

There was a big story in the news about a city worker having been fired for playing solitaire. I had the idea & my coworker actually did it. We opened solitaire, made a screen shot, used MS Paint to erase the rest of the background & set the image of the desktop with solitaire as the desktop background.

The next day the computer was gone. Checked with the IT guy & he said it was being reimaged, because somehow a game of solitaire had frozen & wouldn't go away even though it wasn't showing in the open tasks. He tried everything, but to no avail.

One of the most fantastic expressions ever was the look on his face when I asked if he had tried changing the desktop background.

Why does the news media spill all the secrets as to how they find information off of evidence? They go and remind all the nut cases how to get away with a crime. Ways that they are able to find out who did it. I wish that the media would use some common sense. I guess that's too much to ask.:bang:

Night time medicating with some Black Cherry Soda aka Cherry Pie. I need to just chill out, mellow out or get mellow:smug:

While I think your intentions are wonderful, I tend to agree with @TeeJay1952 about how your gesture will be received.

The thing is that your mom's knees probably ARE keeping her from moving. Having had one replaced and the other one being 'iffy' I can totally relate. So, until she does something about them, she needs non weight bearing exercise. Perhaps a membership to a pool might be the answer instead? There are several in this area that offer arthritis exercise programs. That might be a better fit for her and she'll meet new people as a bonus.

@Amoreena I'm so happy to hear that your diagnosis is as non threatening as it turned out to be. Best of luck with your treatment!

Stay with us Ron. Just had my 5th. Never anywhere else . . . period.

Peace to you FC brother . . . :peace:
Thanks man.
I feel we're all out for each others best interest...just sharing knowledge and real life experience. Vaporizing has changed how I use cannabis forever. It feels right...I don't miss coughing and smelling like smoke.
I do dabble socially in some blunt action but that is seldom. My LSV and Air have never let me down.

Three of these things matter; the fourth thing is being discussed ad nauseam in our mainstream media.
  • The contemptible treatment of the Standing Rock Sioux
  • The declaration of a state of emergency in Georgia and Alabama
  • The abuse of power by those sworn to protect us
  • Brangelina are getting a divorce

We are very worried. Our newest kitty was just spayed, but has now become ill. She actually went into heat, and is peeing blood, has a really bad UTI. She is under a Vets care, and we are watching her like a hawk. The Vet squeezed a TON of bloody urine from her bladder. She is now on a stronger antibiotic and narcotic pain med. We have to take her back on Monday. :(

I've always wondered what it's like to be handsome and smooth rather than homely and awkward. My dad, when younger, had a Frank Sinatra esque thing going on. I have more of a Pee Wee Herman esque type thing happening.
I'm fairly happy though. Maybe more so than I should or deserve to be. I do have those occasional, "just pull the trigger" thoughts, but they pass.
Yep. Homely, awkward and a coward. I call it the trifecta of self pity.

My dad would have been have 90 today.

There are worse things to look like in this life. Much worse. Trust me.

I'm fairly happy though. Maybe more so than I should or deserve to be.

Fuck that bullshit! You deserve to be JUST as happy as any other motherfucker on this planet. Never question that shit.

I do have those occasional, "just pull the trigger" thoughts, but they pass.

Doubly fuck that bullshit!! Been there, done that. Life can be hard to navigate sometimes, no doubt. Especially for me when I see others doing so well, while I'm doing so, ugghh. I've finally decided I'm gonna keep on going as long as I can to the bitter fuckin' end. Come hell or high water!

Yep. Homely, awkward and a coward.

Seriously, fuck that nonsense. When that side of your brain starts feeding you that BS, tell it to go FUCK OFF & take a right jump off a bridge. I don't know you from a hole in the wall (except for your good taste in music ;)), but I can guarantee you your much more than the sum of those 3 things.

My dad would have been have 90 today.

Happy b-day to your pops. Sounds like he was a real cool cat. Hold on to & cherish those memories man. God knows I could of used a father growing up, or really any positive male role model in my life, but alas, it was not to be. But, we carry on!

Also just realized what the shirt on your profile picture is. Fuck yeah muthafuka! Bernie's the motherfuckin' man!

She woke up this morning feeling a lot better, thank goodness! I watched her pee, and it was a lot more yellow. I was just about to squeeze her bladder for her, but she went on her own! It wasn't drops either, it was a stream. I know, TMI, sorry. I used to be a Vet Tech, so this stuff doesn't phase me. We're just glad it looks like she is getting better! Now, I just need to get her to have a bowel movement. She hasn't done that since the spay surgery, so I'm giving her meds for that.

We also rescued another baby boy kitten last night. Feral, but actually slept with us last night. Very sweet for a feral.

I tried to post a picture, but having problems right now.
