Radishes. What is the draw here?

Yeah, but who knew that radishes as a vegetable would make three pages!! haha

And replies are strongly pro-radish. This appears to be something else on which most agree.

Just enjoyed a radish of the ordinary type, but large, crisp, and mild. Also has nice tops, which are especially nutritious. Probably an early crop from a nearby farm.

I just added mushrooms and radish tops to a frozen pizza, then grated reggiano parmesan all over the top. Verdict should be in in less than 20 minutes.
edit: 2/3 of the way through I saw the greens were drying out, remembered the feta I had in the fridge, and did a hasty addition.
Not bad at all! It isn't spinach, but the same sort of idea. No need to be shy about this one.

Well done! Radish tops are much better for you than spinach, IMO. Radishes are brassicas, and the leaves are more like those of broccoli or cauliflower. They're one of the best sources of quercetin.

Spinach is over-rated, IMO. It has lots of minerals but also lots of oxalic acid to bind them up, which can precipitate as kidney stones.

Bitter is better....

Of the 5 tastes; sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami, bitter has a significant impact on the digestive process, stimulating bile secretion, the liver and metabolic function. Embrace bitters, for they are better, maybe best.

I'm late to this party, but I love radishes. Eat them like apples, though with apples I don't eat the core. Most times anyway.

Easy to grow, last forever in the fridge with little effort, make Ranch dressing useful, keep the kids away from my salad and provide me a snack for when the munchies attack. Oh, and let a few of them grow past harvesting and end up with enough seeds to do the whole thing over again.

Carrots are cool like this too, but then you have that whole bunny thing... then bunny trolling with radishes.... THE MADNESS!

It seems that my tolerance of bitters increases as I get older, when I was young I could not eat olives at all, now I love them. In my twenties it was all ales and mild lagers, now I'll drink a full bodied stout no problem. My tastebuds must be getting wrinkled:evil:
Angostura Bitters for the purpose of large pink gin, and back in the day Webster's Yorkshire Bitter was a favourite of mine. A search for radishes as garnish or ingredients for cocktails garnered a couple of results, but nothing I'm going to try anytime soon.

I worked with a guy that always ate his apple core. His technique was to just start on one side of the apple eat right through. If your not avoiding the core and seeds then there is no need to eat around it in a circle.

First it was spinach, now it's carrots.

Need I remind everyone that this is a RADISH thread!
Fine, I retract the carrots in lieu of this Rad Dish!

That looks delicious!! I love roasted radish!

Ever eat a pine tree? My wife often picks dandelion leaves when we hike to use in various dishes.
I make tea from pine needles. Its wonderful when you have a cold. I like dandelion leaves in salad and I just dried a full quart mason jar full of dandelion flowers for a healthy tea that's great for your liver.

Careful with the pine needle tea. A pine tree is not a pine tree and some are poisonous. If you read carefully between the lines, some leaves will be more...popular...in states that outlaw abortion. Might even call it plan "C".
