Have you had some rosin yet?
Have you had some rosin yet?
With a passion I hate it. Any thread dedicated to Rosin I just stay away from as I have nothing good to say about it or the company.Have you had some rosin yet?
there's a rosin company
I found the taste is a lot better using ethanol, not to mention it's safer as it's food grade. I would only use ISO if ethanol is either unavailable or cost prohibitive. I wrote up a full how-to guide here, you can substitute ISO for ethanol though. For 16oz it might take a day or so to evaporate and then you want to purge it in a vac or over light heat for 1-2 days to get the last bit of solvent out.So last harvest I turned some of my plants into bubble hash, but this time around I'm thinking of some QWISO, although QWET has me interested just because folks say it evaps on its own and produces shatter easiest (based off what I read in this thread).
I already got most of my supplies for doing this and just want to know, around what is the purging time per 16 oz of ISO? If anyone has a figure for Ethanol I'm all ears.
I'm thinking I'll leave it out in the sun to dry, which will take longest, but I don't want to fuck it up my first time.
If I use a hot plate I'll keep it below 95 Fahrenheit. Anyone got an idea about how long the evap time is? I just want to know so I do your purge/evap time at the least and don't have iso in my product.
Also anyone have a good tell sign for when it's done? What should I be looking out for when it's nearing the end. This is the only part I'm hung up on. All your experience is greatly appreciated.
I haven't seen qwiso anywhere around here, but I don't shop at shops too much. I try to get deals from local people and it must be unanimous. BHO. But I want to try this. Especially if the end result of a well purged product is indistinguishable from BHO.
So I take you it you haven't dabbed full melt bubble or dry sift from well cured material then?

ditch the coffee filters and get SS mesh filters in 10, 25, and 50 micron.
If you run a lot of liquid it's worth looking into a buchner funnel setup down the line, it'll filter 1L in under 5 minutes. For now what I would try is a 2-pass setup, run it once through the 25 or 50 micron to get the bulk out as quick as possible and then do a pass through the 10 micron to get the last bits out.I just wanted to resurrect this zombie post, since IMO it's pure gold for anyone looking to get their QWISO cleaned up. Mine was always dark with a slight off taste no matter what I did, but I found this tip while browsing and ordered up a 12"x12" square of 25micron ss screen for $7 on ebay. Man, I can't believe how much better it is than 2x coffee filters stacked Every run since has been light, clear shatter with amazing flavor. Next up I think I'll try the 10micron, see how clean I can get it
hahahaha with all due respect, you guys likely have no idea what you are talking about!
QWISO when done my way is much quicker than Butane, also much cheaper. ISO purchases in bulk make for cheaper solvent purchases than Butane (at least here). I am finished the FULL QWISO process in 2-6 hours, including full (patent pending) purge process with no trace of ISO smell/taste.
Also, I guarantee you guys could not distinguish between properly purged QWISO shatter and properly purged BHO from the same strain.
The reason the large majority use BHO is convention. Also, the fact that butane is a very forgiving solvent means you don't need to have such solid technique, and your purging process can be sloppier (after all butane is not particularly dangerous to breathe in anyway, even if some is left). However, butane is by no means superior, you can get the same great results with any solvent, however the techniques used will vary wildly between solvents to achieve these same results.
Until you guys have tried crystal clear shatter from QWISO with no ISO taste/smell left in it, I will take your comments on preference with a pinch of salt
Also, I should point out that QWISO is extremely easy to do HUGE runs. BHO you are limited by the tubes you buy (which are sold with the typical surcharge attached to such paraphernalia). QWISO washes can be done in any container made of suitable material, since you don't need to worry about having a closed tube/special packing to manipulate the flow of the solvent.
Wanna do a 10oz run? Grab a bigger container and bigger filters and boom, shake shake shake the room (or just the container). I will not share my methods in any further detail, and I am still yet to decide what to use them for.
That same 10oz run is gonna cost you a serious, serious amount of cashish if you wanna upgrade your BHO setup to handle it lol.
Just because people tend to do things a certain way, does NOT mean that it is the most effective way.
