Purple Days or Myrtlezap?

Suprisingly even after thorough searching I could only find 1 small thread on this topic. I can see there is a lot of debate on this topic but comparisons are not easy to find.

I want to buy my first vaporizer. I have never vaped before but am ready to stop smoking after years. After originally wanting a launch box, I decided to spend more and get a home unit. Currently I want a Myrtle Purple Days, but am considering a Myrtlezap as well. Wait time is 3-5 weeks for a PD and $20 more. But the warranty is longer, no brass, and has qute a reputation/following. Is it worth waiting and the extra $$?

So I want to hear from people who have tried both and have a favorite. I also would like to hear from people who had to make the same decision, what they chose and why. Also, I saw the Myrtle purple days runs slightly cooler. Is this a problem? Thanks in advance.

Regarding the Myrtle PD, I have not noticed a temp difference. Granted, I generally take 2 really long slow draws when the stem is nearly kicked, and that cooks it brown with all three woods.

I haven't tried the Myrtlezap or the Woodeez, but after reading (most of) both threads and watching use videos, they all get stellar reviews. Log vapes rock :2c:

gunitand, the creators of both the Zap and the PD, Rick and Tom, are both very well respected members here and both make excellent products, so other than fanboys of either, of which I think there are very few here because most are pretty objective, I doubt that you're going to get opinions one way or the other. Best advice that I can give you is to scan through both of those very lengthy threads and let your gut tell you which one to get.

Why not meet yourself in the middle and get an Eba... (Okay kidding)

Thats a tough call honestly. I personally with with a MyrtleZap because of its beauty and at the time the PD folk didnt offer them and had a long line ahead of me. If I had to do it all again, I would still go with the Zap (just cause im a fanboy) :p

But whichever choice you make will be the RIGHT one.
Just know that :ko:

You just had to do it, eh AG? Ok, I'll vote PD, just to level out the playing field.

Now I just hope that this thread doesn't go where it "could" go. Apparently my attempt at trying to discourage direct comparisons failed. Oh well........ :/

Look at the myrtle wood that each individual offers and decide whichever one you like best, if wood quality and aesthetics are more important to you.

PD's tend to have a lot more girth to them than their MZ counterpart. Personally, I like the slender look more but you do sacrifice some internal temperature because of this as there is a less wood mass to insulate the heater unit.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the MyrtleZap has a heating unit with a screen, so unlike the PD, you can pack the stem anyway you like to.

I've used both the MZ and the PD. I liked my decision of owning a MZ. :D

+1 for PD cause thats what I have, and I have not tried the MZ but from what I have seen and read they are both pretty much on par with eachother overall. I like the screen feature on the MZ.

I dont think I would say that one is better then the other, just a few things once it comes down to personal preference.

Comes down to personal preference really. This subject has been discussed ad nauseam ;)

I own both brands but use only the PD's though I do loan out my MZ to folks interested in trying vapor.

There is no best vape and both manufacturers are well respected. Down to personal choice.

Ditto what everyone is saying. Both are quality vapes. I read both threads and found the PD was more for me. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

CombustionJunction,
What is the deal with this screen? It seems like that would be pretty important to prevent the herb from falling into the heater?

Also, does the lower temp in the MZ cause lower efficiency?

I've had my PD for over 2 years and I've never felt that I needed a screen. I just hold the PD at a 45 degree angle, like you would if you were drinking out of a beer can. No problem and after the first hit, the bud is kinda glued into the stem.

Surprisingly, no, not important. The stem is so narrow that a tamp (to pack in) or a flick (to knock off excess) when loading the stem via the straw method keeps it in. if you are loading keef or a superfine grind, simply lift the PD like you are drinking a soda, insert the stem, take a hit, and the heat kinda fuses it in place.

Lower temps, in general, tend to give you higher efficiency- less heat = slower vaporizing, AFAIU
