Psychedelic trip from vaping, how is this possible?

(Short background) 2.5 years ago when i started vaping, i had a glimpse of slight trippyness, but in the past 2 years, I've never had anything similar or close to. Just always thought that it's something that you grow over (as I've heard / been told). Basically when i started vaping, i had 0 tolerance, almost 0 weed experience. Started off with 2 full fillings of the No2 per session. And that 3x an evening...

Fast forward, 2 weekends ago, i vaped about 2 grams away in the weekend (Whispr2 vape), it barely got me the desired high, so i decided to get a third vape, the EQ.

Last weekend on Friday i started my first session. It was a single elbow back started at a temperature of 175C -> 185 -> 200 -> 215 -> 230C.

Took 15-20 hits (i think) starting from 175 to 200C. At this point things already started to feel a little trippy, after say 1.5 hours of happy joy joy i continued the session from 200 - 230C. This is where things got a little... hard.
The feeling i had, was similar to a truffel (psychedelic mushroom) trip. Especially body/mind were close if not equal to a truffel trip. How on earth is this giving me such a big trip, mind you not, this is one elbow pack, it gave me a trip for about 5 hours! ( Not just lasting twice as long, but ??times harder )
I just mindfucked myself quite a lot that evening, it was fun, weird, awesome and a bit overwhelming at times.

Needless to say, i really, really really really really really really, did not expect that, at all after the experiences I've had with vaping/truffels. Actually never thought i was gonna equal, let alone get beyond the level i had when i started.

Next day, second session, another elbowpack but filled it less that the first session. Set the temperature at 180C and started vaping. Things started out good, the trippyness was even stronger than the day before, with less hits!. At some point really bad stomach pain kicked in.... That put me in an (bad) trip that just took me way to deep. I really thought i took some truffels that afternoon, identical experience.

Even the next day, almost 20 hours later, all of the sudden i reentered this trip for a bit, not as intense, but something i could not shake off.

This first 2 experiences with the EQ just raised so many question marks.

1. How is it possible to experience such a psychedelic trip, regardless good or bad?
2. Is this even normal?
3. Is this the difference between a (god) tier vape and middle/low tier vapes?
4. The strain i used (my favorite), is the exact same i got the clearest of highs ever with the Wispr2, how can a strain result in such a difference effect with vapes?

I hope some of you can give me some answers or clear things up =)

Wish I had an answer. It's the delta-9 THC along with the predominant terpines in the strain that affect the quality and duration of the high. When I first started vaping (after not combusting for 25 years or so) I had a very intense experience of racing thoughts, vivid mental images, waves of euphoria, extreme sensitivity to lights that all sparkled, dizziness. It brought me to a single point of observation behind all that phenomena that I can only all mystical. I loved it but it was all too much and reminded me of the psychedelic trips on LSD, mescaline, psylocybin, that I experienced in my youth in the mid and late '60's.

So yes it's possible. Maybe you got some really high THC herb.

Have you tripped on psychedelics recently? Sometimes people report weed bringing back the effects of a trip they recently had.

As for the difference in vapes, if you started with an No2, you should've been able to get to the same level as with a nicer desktop vape, but you'd probably have to go through significantly more bud to get to an equal level of highness.

my first couple years of vaping i could trip easily to the point that i started having visual alterations just flicking the bic or filling a bowl, nevermind that first minute after a toke. during this time i began reading trip reports online and the types i was having were somewhere between shrooms and salvia (tinture or chew method) if i had to narrow it down, its hardly that easy though. as i kept at it the experiences began to turn into the 1-10 scale posted elsewhere in here and at the moment i attribute that to my interest in being able to "hold it down" for a lack of better words.

i can still achieve that purely psychedelic experience however it requires a bit more ritual and attention to set and setting which i think refers back to steama's comment on the mind. not sure i have a great handle on how or why all this is but currently id guess it has to do with aligning your mind back in a setting when it was more susceptible to altered states of consciousness.

what a trip.

I once grew a 90% sativa strain outdoors it was Tangerine Dream from Barneys farm. Back then my brothers and I combusted it from a bong and they both had a full fledged psychedelic trip lasting all night just like shrooms!

Are you blazing a sativa? It must be good...and the elbow pack is efficient method of vaporization.

It's common for weed to give people "trip" like effects. The way I see it: weed, acid, x, mushrooms - all these things produce one or other degree of psychosis, that may or may not be fun. Since first trying acid, I began to notice similarities between the "psychedelic" experience and the weed high. IMO, once you're attuned to these things you'll begin to see acid's trippy effects on high doses of weed, pill comedowns... some people even get it from alcohol, cigarettes, coffee or sleep deprivation.

the mind can be a slippery place at times :whoa:

^This.

My advice: try to enjoy it. If you don't, dial down your dosage to a comfortable level for the future. And don't panic, it won't last forever!

Never experienced anything like an acid/shroom trip from cannabis, not even close, jealous of those that can! If I'm tripping, and vape a bowl later in the trip, and can help to revive the trip for a bit, but never anytime that I didn't ingest a psychedelic first.

So far, cannabis is my only trip...

I have medicated sufficiently to have what sounds like you are calling "psychedelic" effects - colors brighter, sounds much clearer, and an easier path to "detachment"... or the "assemblage point", or the "level 1 base"... the main goal of any serious student of meditation, that disconnect from distraction and being present within yourself.

Delta brain waves is awake.
Alpha brain waves is meditation.
Theta brain waves is sleep.

Hanging right at the edge of meditation opens up a whole lot of creative thought, artistic ideas, insights, and a sense of true connection.

No hallucinations, however. Haven't really seen anything not there, just been way more aware of what is there.

If I've had too much MJ sometimes I think I see something move in the corner of my eye. Like some things in the periphery of my vision move a bit. I think that's the closest I've come to hallucinating ever (I don't do any other drugs).

I do indeed ocassionally get to the tripp-ish side of things with mj, though I usually keep below that level. Some strains--I had one this summer of unknown origin--put me on high visual alert. I think it must have been a sativa because the identified strains I get from my friend, always hybrids and usually indica doms, don't feel the same. It's not an out and out hallucination thing. Just regular things moving just like always, but my awareness of them is heightened to a point of being a little startled or excited by them, if that doesn't sound too freakish. Like it's the first time I'm seeing the leaves blow on the trees in my backyard. The excitement and awe of seeing something for the first time.

@Enchantre , a few years ago I started to get into meditation and what a positive thing it was while I did it. I stopped, not by plan, when I started back with mj after many years away form it. So perhaps mj started opening that detachment door for me enough to make me feel that I didn't need the meditation. Though I tell myself a couple of times a week that I'm getting back into it.

Becomes a harder sell after such a fine mj weekend as this one

My tolerance stays low because I alternate between less and more potent flowers or plant parts. I usually see trails and feel like I am channeling a higher power when I do pure and potent flower. But I know I have tendency for mania, nothing bank account depleting, just my fun little secret. Perhaps the OP has found a similarly enjoyable door of perception.

certain sativa strains have thcv ore some other turbo cannabinoid in it.
these modulate THC and give a flashy and trippy effect.
because you vape it, the molecules aren't changed , and come directly in the blood.
with fire there is more "earth"effect by the combustion.

Certain strains are known to have psychedelic potential.
In Amsterdam I had way too much of Amnesia Haze and it was very trippy.
Later, looking on Leafly it noted that amnesia haze can produce psychedelic effects---and it did

I've experienced psychedelic like trips when vaping before too, the strain was Amnesia Haze as well. I become very sensitive to light and can see what I can only describe as an old style movie reel been played in my peripherals.
I've often catch something moving out of the corner of my eye, only to discover it's my shadow that is barely visible in a brightly lit room because of the heightened sensitivity.

However the visuals are nothing in comparison to when you combine shrooms and weed. Me and a few mates were coming out of a trip before when I decided to take out the vape, it brought us right back into the trip but in a different way.
It wasn't the blatantly noticeable, kinda in-your-face, pulsating visuals when your peaking on shrooms, it was something much more beautiful. When we stared at a really cool picture we would see so much depth to it, layers upon layers deep. The picture would literally come alive. It was like we could see the intelligence behind it. All of us seen the exact same thing as well and we all agree it's the best thing we've ever seen.
I'm a fairly rational person but that one experience made me believe there's more to reality than we can perceive with our regular brain state.

I'll include this quote from Jessica L.Nielson, a neurosurgeon's response when asked what is reality.
What is our metric for determining what is real? That is probably different for each person. One could try and find a consensus state that most people would agree is "real" or a "hallucination" but from the recent literature using imaging techniques in people who are having a hallucinatory experience on psychedelics, it seems the brain is hyper-connected and perhaps just letting in more of the perceivable spectrum of reality.

When it comes to psychosis, things like auditory hallucinations can seem very real. Ultimately, our experiences are an interpretation of a set of electrical signals in our brains. We do the best to condense all those signals into what we perceive to be the world around us (and within us), but who is to say that the auditory hallucinations that schizophrenics experience, or the amazing visual landscapes seen on psychedelics are not some kind of bleed through between different forms of reality? I don't think there is enough data to either confirm or deny whether what those people are experiencing is "real" or not

Wake and vape can make me feel like I was reborn overnight. The trippy cannabis is what resets my brain and snaps me out of otherwise chronic depression. My genetic profile says I am among the highest novelty seeking segment of the population tested. I have moved all over the country and been "married" more than a few times. I am so glad I learned how to vape because I can optimize thc from middling material.

I can second that, iv recently (6 weeks ago) harvested some very nicely grown original amnesia. And it's very flashy and trippy, at night I get alot of greens and reds going on, and sometimes as I'm holding in vapour everything goes a little cartoon like, like shrooms, soft edges. Black is blacker, white is whiter, and everything has less imperfections. The amnesia I grew was superstrains (formally hy pro) original amnesia.
