PreRolls - What I learned from them.

Hello from the state of Washington. Much saner than the other Washington for sure.

We have 1-502 shops. State legal where you can get flower, concentrates, edibles and prerolls.

I have always bought flower usually a gram or an 1/8th at a time. A while ago one of the very
experienced stoner budtender recommended Blue Power by Fireline preroll since the flower was
not available for that strain. After resisting and waiting for the flower to come in I decided to
try a preroll. The flower came in shortly after so I then bought a gram of the flower. Now I could
really test whether the significantly cheaper preroll stacked up against the flower.

My current fave vape is the MV1 which is notoriously inconsistent for vapor production a finicky beast
to be sure. Not only was the difference in taste potency for this impressive strain below the
threshold of detection. But the ease of using the preroll was very impressive. I could now get very
consistent results at a much a lower temperature. I then started to grind up my flower much finer
and by using the plastic S&B grinder that came with my Mighty and Crafty I found that my flower results
were also much more consistent. Especially if I ground it up quite fine and tried to make it very
consistent which the prerolls did for me without work. It was easier to fill up the crucible from the
joint then grinding and the results were even more consistent then what I can get from grinding. I am
guessing that the prerolls are more evenly moist especially when compared to fresh ground.

I now love to use the prerolls in the sublimator. They really work easily in that device also. The grind was
too fine for the evo. It seemed to kind of clog up the baskets. I tried it also in the Argo which worked good though I need to add the screen to the stem so that the particles did not escape mouthward.

In Washington State we have many fine producers of all flower prerolls but even the Phat Panda ones that are trim and flower are amazingly good and four dollars a gram every Friday at my local dispensary.

What a world.

I think a lot of dispensaries use shake in their pre-rolls. Even in overpriced Cali, the dispensaries with cheaper pre-rolls usually offer their shake at a huge discount. $50 an ounce or thereabouts. Maybe test that too? I've gotten some shake that's full of kief too.

Is the kiefeness noticeable. Cause I can really imagine how this occurs. They trim it and depending how the trimming is done or the particular strain alot of trichomes might fall so the trim is pretty damn potent.

I’ve thought the pre rolls were inferior to flower bud. I’ve been told that it’s not the best part of the flower. Also some have a tendency to be dry from my experience. I usually buy grams, 1/8s or 1/4 if available.

I miss the med dispensary days when we could smell our bud before we buy. Everything in WA is prepackaged now. Loved the day when the budtenders would screw the lid off the top of the huge jar and we could smell what was inside, I miss being able to smell what I’m buying.

Not my now considerable experience with prerolls and the same strain flower at a dispensary which has existed since way before that devil I-502 I miss the jars and the less crushed flower.

another washingtonian here... budtenders tell me that some pre-rolls have some % of shake - it varies. as far as potency, I've been in dispensaries where pre-rolls of the same strain/producer as flower tested higher THC than the flower - the budtenders said this might be due to different batches. I've also seen shake for sale for far less $ than flower that has THC % as high as typical flower. I'd always figured flower would just have higher THC, but - if you believe the lab results (questionable) - it isn't necessarily true.

Any prerolls I've had look like floor sweepings. I'm glad it works out better for some people, but I'm done with them.
Here in MD, it depends on the dispensary. Here, dispensaries are seperate licensed entities from growers.

IMO, a lot of PRJ (pre-rolled joints? yeah?) rolled by the cultivators and sold under their brand are indeed trim and shake.

But some dispensaries here...including one of my favorite which is Peake ReLeaf....order in bulk rather than pre-packaged (for 1/8's and the like...can't tell you how many times I bought a 1/2 zip and got four pre-packed 1/8ths..sigh) and they grind and roll themselves using bud. Maybe using the smaller buds (pretty sure that they aren't breaking up big colas which we see in their Big Bud mason jarred ounces) but ground from bud and rolled on site.

To me, there can be big differences in PRJ depending on where you are and what store you bought them from.

I defer to your greater Wisdom and Experience in the matter, @Baron23. While my experience has been different, I have not been to many dispensaries sampling pre-rolls. Just enough, perhaps to have become poorly informed on the matter. When at a dispensary the other day, I noticed there was a counter with three registers that were devoted entirely to the sell of pre-rolls, so clearly there are those that love them. This is all to the good, as I wish my fellow consumers to be happy in their journey through ganjaland. If pre-rolls are desirable, then I wish those that love them to enjoy them more than I ever could.

It’s off topic my statement:
U look like PETE DAVIDSON on SNL!

Pre-rolls I tried! (@Baron23 is why?)

The PREROLL’S were full of nuggets?
They got me so high or stoned like the daze of old?
Now smoking and vaping R N competition with one other!

Pre-rolls are mostly trim and shit as far as I am concerned.....I have a bunch of them dispos give for free on first visit or specials and stuff....I think I have a dozen or so.

I do not combust at all......but unrolled a couple just to see what they were composed of... (couple were GG4 and Grease Monkey). I laughed when I broke them open......trim trim trim.....

I would feel guilty giving these to a friend...haaa

Well, I'll say it again:

I just can't see how to generalize about PRJ's when each state and each dispensary in each state is completely independent.

My experience in my area about prerolls is they usually use dried out products. They do get the job done but I don’t like the taste of too dried out bud. It’s so harsh IMO. Hi @Baron23 - I always get so much out of your posts. Gives us something to think about.

@Baron23 I smoke a joint of WHITE WIDOW with a person from across the pond a couple of years ago?
It tasted amazing?
The pre-rolls seem like dried out shake?

I guess it depends on the values of the Dispensery?

It's the free ones that are usually the absolute lowest quality. You can buy better ones but it wouldn't be of much interest to most of us vape heads.

I never understood the first-time-patient-free-crappy-joint thing, always figured you could really hook me as a customer by demonstrating your quality products............

I always put my best foot forward for our clientele.
I deeply appreciate them and do not want them spending money on relief that could be better used elsewhere.
The current cannabis business model is abhorrent regards customer care.

To take into consideration too. You need that dried out bud to smoke a joint so it burns well. I want to tear the joint apart to vape so I like a little moisture in my stash.

I’m not interested in smoking.
