Have a few questions for the rosin people.

Do you use a pre press? Noticable yeild difference?
Bag or no?
Would it make sense to not bag each press and just bag the final press after everything is collected? Any downside?
Experiment and see what works for you. That is how I came to use bags on my set up. I use a HF 20 ton shop press, and 3x5 plates. And I'm making rosin for a handfull of patients. And I've only pressed 5-6 ounces by now.
I tried 3 different brands of bags and wrapped pucks with chem ex coffee filters, along with pressing just pucks. I like low temp bags best, mostly because they don't seem to fail, and hold less rosin than the others.
Things I'd do different? Just one really, and that's to get bigger plates. Packing bigger bags would really be no more work and get you more rosin in the same time. I have low temp cage style plates, so that's all I can speak to.
One thing that surprised me was the time involved. I destem the biggest buds, carefully pack bags, pre press in a vice for several minutes, then usually freeze until I'm ready to press a few. After pressing each puck twice, you have to collect the rosin. Some rosins don't collect easy and have to be chilled briefly or overnight. So bigger plates would save me time and effort for the amounts I press. I'm not interested in pressing single buds for maximum yields and personal use. Nor am I a commercial type guy.
Now folks with different presses, different plates, using there own method, and pressing other amounts, may differ wildly from how I make rosin. So like I said experiment, and find out what works best for you.
