Portable vaporizer dilemma/questions

After doing a bunch of research and going to some shops, i'm at an impasse. full disclosure, this will be my first vaporizer purchase. I want a portable vaporizer, non flame and non butane, and am not impressed with the form/function of the existing models. Despite their great reviews and efficiency, i'm not too thrilled about the Purple Days or Myrtlezap models, aesthetically and they dont have a battery (right?) so portability is right out the window (i see they have a car adapter, but i'm not looking for that kind of portability, more the kind where i dont have to sit next to an electric outlet). The Vapir mini and NO2 - poor reviews about the quality of Vapir products and my preference for my pieces to not look like giant sex toys from the future have turned me off of those. the MFLB is an option but i think i am looking for something a little more heavy duty. i may buy one to tide me over until they construct my dream piece.

before i started my search, i naively thought that I would be able to find something that looked and functions like a Janty eGo e-cig. its about the size of a large pen. I feel like that, with a digital thermometer control, would be the ideal portable vaporizer - small, sleek, inconspicuous, rechargeable, non-phallic. am I searching for the proverbial unicorn? Does such a thing exist, and if no, then why not? and why are herbal vaporizers so much larger in shape and size than e-cigs?

If I may paraphrase - you would like the portability of an MFLB, that hits as hard as a PD (but does not look like a PD), that is neither butane nor plug powered, and that is to your specified aesthetic liking.

Yes, I think you are looking for the proverbial unicorn.

I think that the MFLB w/ the power adaptor might come closest to your ideal. If you are really looking for portability and excellent design, it is a good place to start. It's a shame you don't like the looks of the PD -- have you seen one in person? held one?

i know i made it sound like i'm looking for something super specific, but i promise i have an open mind. like i said, the MFLB is definitely an option i'm thinking about but i was looking for something more hi tech (i know the beauty of the MFLB is in its simplicity). and i have not held nor seen a PD (no local shops have them) and maybe getting one in my hand might change my mind, but the lack of portability might be a deal breaker. and the vapir NO2 is just so freaking large.

i'm positive there is something out there that is what i'm looking for, i just haven't seen or heard of it yet.

MFLB is heavy duty.

It satisfies all of your requirements except for a high-tech look and a digital thermometer.

There is no need for a digital thermometer.

Form follows function.

there is NO portable vaporizer with a digital thermometer or display(maybe one of the very shitty, low quality vapes might have one, but not that I know of). there are not very many high quality portables to begin with. the MFLB is the best stealth and portable vape IMO

yep for portability i think the MFLB win m8.

I think you should consider 2 routes.

get a portable first since that what you seem to care about most. (MFLB)

but then save up for a 2nd being an excellent stationary "stay at home" vape too. (PD, SSV, VXC...)

The supreme is portable and has a temp gauge on it... The videos show. It hitting like a beast... It's 2 bills though, but after a good batt charger, better batts, and a power adapter, you've already met and exceeded that $200 price tag.
I have a volcano, which is about as high tech as you can get without the infra red box... My mflb does not disappoint... Each device brings me to the full effect... Even when I'm at home, I'll sometimes use the mflb over the volcano digit... It's faster to load and get started.... Sometimes I hit the mflb while the volcano warms up ha.
However, the LB does lack when using with a group of friends... It heats up very quickly, and one idiot will always fail to remove a batt and combust accidentally... And, with my friends anyways, they get all pissy about telling them how to smoke weed.
Anyways, for personal and on the go use, there is no rival... Maybe you should patent some sweet design that we will all, in turn, buy and write 400 pages worth of forum data on, haha.

thanks to everyone for the informative and entertaining responses. while i wait for technology and design to catch up to the future, where apparently my expectations were, i think i will look at getting the MFLB to tide me over. i've had $10 batties and $40 glass pipes last me 10+ years (i'm careful with my stuff), so i'm sure the MFLB will take me into the next millenium, where surely some alien life form will have perfected portable vaporization.

i think i will stop going to med school and restart my undergrad for engineering, so i can make my hazy dreams come true. that way i can unlock the mysteries of small, portable vaporizers. if there is an engineer reading this, maybe someone can explain to me the extreme size differences in the Vapir NO2 and the e-cigs. obviously, different mediums (oil vs ground herbs) and probably different temps, but i find it very hard to believe that the minor changes in function necessitate the vast differences in form.

yeah, but the "minor" change of solid plant material to liquid extracted in polyglycol does change the vaporization temperature drastically, to the point where the temp needed is half.

A very small battery-powered (and thus) portable vape design is (ahem) my own Bud Toaster.

Supreme Vaporizer. Not stealthy while using it, though.

Alright, I admit I forgot that that can be a portable, but its not really marketed as a portable, its kind of a bonus feature they way they advertise it I think.

also not so safe for portable use.

Is that the Zico I-torch? I can't tell but I don't see the brand name Zico anywhere on the page.
Zico I-Torch has a thread here, I'm very interested in it but there doesn't seem to be more than one or two owners here and they don't seem to frequent the forums.

And yet HD omits pictures of his "very small" cable/cord tethered battery pack...so his BT pictures in his signature and thread here on FC, give a false illusion of being "very small". That "portable" design is quite 'clunky' and far from what the OP seeks in "hi tech", imho. Sort of like comparing an old Atari computer with it's separate components like separate drive, keyboard, CPU etc with a sleek design, modern singular compact unibody framed MacBook/MacBook Pro.

On functionality front as opposed to the clunky portability design, the BT has the main advantage of regulated temperature control, strongest selling point, imo.

Well if you click on the link it says iTorch with the same flashlight attachment, so it is the same. Only that link goes to ebay seller, for $150 (free shipping in US). But you can get it from several Amazon affiliated sellers for $120 (+shipping)

My guess from looking at it, since it's been called an iolite knockoff, is that like the iolite, you can't vape very much herb in one fill, limited capacity. Good for single use only I imagine.

It does look the exact same other than color. I like the black more than the silver though. And yeah from the limited research i've been able to do on it it appears to be an iolite knockoff (many of the same parts even) that runs on battery instead of butane, which is an awesome concept to me, especially if the battery lasts as long as claimed.

The Skyda 2 and 3 would be an improvement again with adjustable digital temp control http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?pid=126662#p126662 in concept at least- I don't suppose for a minute that it would be reliable or accurate....or safe

I'm going to be a conformist and tell you to go with the MFLB. Sorry.

The thing is incredible, I've never been happier to spend almost $100 on a tiny accessory.

If you had a MFLB in your back pocket (battery not inserted) and got knocked on your ass by a speeding bus, I'm pretty sure the MFLB would be OK. Just be careful when you brush the screen.
