Portable or Desktop? Read inside...

Hi,

Let me tell you I have been reading the forums for quite some time and I think it's time to join!

I have been smoking daily 3-4 grams of Neville's Haze ( 15weeker almost pure sativa ) for the past 4-5 years until I had a mushroom trip and re-arranged things in my life. Now, I just stopped smoking cigarettes and I am now only vaporizing and smoking pure joints twice per week. I have used the Volcano and the Arizer Extreme Q , I find both very good , Volcano for bags and the Xtreme for whips , I think they are great and probably helped a lot to stop smoke cigarettes.

Now.. I generally prefer smoking outside rather inside ( I find smoking inside a bit of waste, but I dont really mind hitting the volcano or xtreme and then go out ) . The only thing that makes me go for a desktop is because I am so used to quality,thick and proper vapors that I think going to a portable won't let me enjoy it as much the desktop ones... And generally speaking , from what I have read is that portable ones are either big ( I dont want a huge portable vaporizer ... portable for me means like pocket size... maybe a bit bigger but nothing extreme ) or they dont deliver the vapor quality I've described above ,or they need cleaning almost every time you use them. Money is no problem and I wouldnt mind buy both ( desktop+portable ), but if there is one portable vaporizer that would deliver the qualities I have described above then I see no reason in buying a desktop one...

It's already difficult to choose a table vaporizer while portable ones typically imply that the freedom they provide comes at a cost somehow; my strategy as a new vaporist was to "buy solid" 1st, with a possibility to get mobile later... More than a year has passed but i still haven't fell in love with a specific brand/model and this may be one hint why:

Here's pretty much what you'd find on my desk today as it's one thing to obtain efficient vaporization and quite another to consume the noble molecules to in a similar fashion! Now imagine the trade-offs to be made with a portable (e.g. having to switch to oils, for example), etc.

I think you need both. Even if the portable isn't quite as potent as the desktop vape, sometimes the freedom to take it wherever is worth the tradeoff for me. The solo is a nice compromise, although its really not small enough to be considered a true portable imo.

A Vapolution CAN be portable, since it's 12V and has an optional battery pack, but other than that, I can't think of a really popular portable I'd describe as "big". As for "vapor quality", what you really mean is vapor quantity. If you just want a vape for outside, but don't need one you can easily put in and take out of a pocket, ready to hit, I think the Solo is your best bet. It's small but not what we at FC consider a pocket vape. It bridges the gap between pocket vape and and home vape, with bigger hits than most portables, and some have sold their home vapes to use the Solo as their solo vape.

I was very happy with my combination of Extreme Q + Solo (and MFLB) for a long time. I don't know what you consider 'big', but the Solo is definitely not a stealth portable. I've tried a lot of portables and the Solo is easily my favorite.

The MFLB was my stealth device for a few years. With good technique and cover you can be stealthy, though others here seem to have ninja skills that far surpass mine.

Gotta agree with kingofnull and max, solo is a bit big for a portable but a beast while the magic flight launch box is stealth surpreme. If having vaporous production on par with a table top is concerned then solo is up there. If you want it out and about without drawing any attention, then mflb. But the mflb has more whispy vapor (IME) than the thick vapor you may be wanting. You could try a solo and if it is too big to bring out with you you could just leave it home like it was a tabletop.

A third opting to consider would be a vaporgenie. A little tricky to figure out, but once you have technique it can hold its own against any vaporizer in terms of vapor production. Its the size of a regular pipe with smaller options available, so it should fit in your pocket without problem. It runs off a lighter as you pull the flame into a top bowl piece with a filter that allows the heat to transfer underneath where everything is packed. It does take some learning, but once you know how to hit it properly it is fantastic. Just a note, though, if you live somewhere that is windy it may be difficult to use outside.

If you want something powerful and foolproof, solo is a champ but bigger than most portables (I have no problem with it in my pocket). MFLB for stealth, but not the thick vape you may want. Vaporgenie if you're willing to learn is a great first vape, if something ever happens to your others it can always be a backup, and its the least expensive option at $45 to $65 range and a little more for a glass model.

If money is really no object, i'd get a VXCloud to use inside and a TET Cera to use outside.

Keep in mind the Cera hasn't even come out yet but it looks very promising, and the total will be something close to 800$.

If you want something a little more inteligent in terms of the best for the money, i would get an LSV or a log vaporizer of your choosing and an Inhalater and a small beaker.

I'm choosing a dual setup because i think it is the best and the one who gives you the most versatibility.

If you decide to go with just one, then i would get an INH or a Solo, for the same reasons max gave to go with the Solo.

It seems like the majority of people who both owned a Solo and a Inhalater that the Inhalater beats/on par the Solo for the vapor production and taste, while much more portable. The INH XP is going to be even smaller, i'd say look at that. I made a recent post on deciding on a portable, i'd say check that out as well as the portables threads you'd be interested in.

but yes, desktop vapes hit harder. consider a LSV (on sale now..) or maybe a cloud if you wanna go all out!
